CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - 1L

CamelBak Better Bottle w/ Bite Valve - 1L

Rating for this product: 3 December 7, 2011

I like the bottle, but I don't see the point of it. I've used Nalgenes for years and never had any complaints about the challenge of tilting a bottle to get water. The water tastes good and it's a different experience to drink from a straw, but why? Oh, and it's horrible to clean. I'm just going to stick to a Nalgene.

A Necessity

DAKINE Supertune Base Cleaner - 6oz

DAKINE Supertune Base Cleaner - 6oz

Rating for this product: 5 December 6, 2011

Just apply a little to get your bases a bit cleaner. This is really a necessity for doing any consistent waxing at home. Even though you might not notice a performance difference, your bases will thank you dearly.

It works, but it's not for me

Marmot Oracle Jacket - Men's

Marmot Oracle Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 5, 2011

It's a well built jacket and it held up to moderate rain pretty well. It required the occasional nikwax-ing, but nothing out of the ordinary to keep it in good shape. The thing that I found appealing about this jacket was the lack of velcro down the front, so when using this as an everyday shell there wasn't anything to get worn out. But, a couple of things about this jacket irked me. The high collar was nice when the wind would pick up, but at all other times it would just flop around or hang around my neck. Also, the hood stowing and removal system seems overly complex and bulky with two big velcro tabs and a zipper around the back. As an everyday shell, I would not recommend it, but if you're only planning on breaking it out when the weather turns a little nasty then this is probably a good choice.

Pretty Good

Salomon Lord Ski

Salomon Lord Ski

Rating for this product: 4 December 5, 2011

Overall, this is a good ski. On groomers turning was easy and carefree and I felt comfortable at speed. On moguls and through crud they handle well and can hold an edge nicely due to quite a bit of sidecut. A lot of camber means that you can pop smoothly and take the occasional park lap. However, skiing powder is another story. Unless you ski very aggressively in anything deeper than a few inches these may be a handful. At 88mm in the waist and only a minimal amount of rocker, I can't fully trust these skis in anything deep. But for days when fresh snow is scarce, this is my go to ski for just about everywhere on the mountain.

Salomon Z12 Ti Ski Binding

December 5, 2011

You might want to look for wider brakes than 100mm, that big of a bend in your brakes probably won't work out so well.

Great Stuff

Salomon STH 14 Driver Ski Binding

Salomon STH 14 Driver Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 December 5, 2011

I've only put a day on mine so far, but they're doing great so far. I have them mounted on some Bluehouse Maestros and they seem like a solid match. They feel bomber and no pre-releasing has happened, but that being said I haven't pushed them all that hard yet. The extensive use of plastic makes me wonder about durability, but we shall see how these hold up. I look forward to spending more time on these things.

Black Diamond Prodigy Glove - Men's

Black Diamond Prodigy Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 5, 2011

Whenever I would wear this glove, it seemed to fall just short of my expectations. It's decently waterproof, breathable, and durable but I could never be happy with it. Also, there is not anywhere near enough insulation in these and my fingers would get cold far too easily. That being said, they fit well and when my hands weren't frozen they provided pretty good dexterity. But for now, I'm looking elsewhere.

The Best

FlyLow Gear Tough Guy Glove

FlyLow Gear Tough Guy Glove

Rating for this product: 5 December 2, 2011

For the price, it's nearly impossible to beat these gloves. They keep my digits plenty warm on most days, they're simple and unlike some gloves they don't have to be babied to keep doing their job. This is now my glove of choice for just about everything.

Just a heads up, this is an almost exact copy of the Kinco 1927KW glove but it costs double when it says FlyLow on it.

This jacket is absolutely fantastic. I wouldn't mind at all if I had skin made out of it it's that awesome. Breathes like none other and blocks wind like a wall. It's even pretty waterproof. It's like stealing to get this jacket for such a low price. Stop reading this and buy it!

Gregory Whitney 95 Backpack - 5309-6285cu in

Gregory Whitney 95 Backpack - 5309-6285cu in

Rating for this product: 3 November 18, 2011

Like many other reviewers have said, if you're not careful, the hipbelt might break. I've had two hipbelts fail on me so far, one after 50+ miles with only about a 40 pound load. I also am not a fan of Gregory's attempt at ice axe loops as they're weak, but this pack wasn't really made for mountaineering purposes. Besides those things, this pack is pretty burly and monstrous in its size. I've beaten this pack around and it still looks new. But for now, I'm going to stick with Opsrey.

Good Stuff

Salomon Z12 Ti Ski Binding

Salomon Z12 Ti Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2011

If you're looking for some bindings that will keep you locked in when you want to be and let you go when you take a tumble these definitely do the job. I've beaten these bindings around and I still have no worries about pre-releasing or not coming out when I fall. They're fairly light and let you ski where you want to ski, just like they're meant to do.
