Salomon Quest Pro Pebax Boot - Men's

Salomon Quest Pro Pebax Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 27, 2012

I have put about 30 days on these this season (mostly inbounds and sidecountry with a couple 1-day tours) and I am very impressed so far. They are noticably softer and have a lower cuff than my old Salomon Crossmax 10.0 boots, but are WAY lighter and more comfortable on the skin track. I almost fell over the first time I lifted my foot to clean the snow off the sole because I was used to lifting so much more weight! They work great with my Fritchi Freeride bindings, but I am a little bummed they aren't compatible with Dynafit bindings. That's the only reason they don't get a 5-star review from me.

K2 Lock Jaw Adjustable Carbon/Alu Probe Ski Pole - 2009

K2 Lock Jaw Adjustable Carbon/Alu Probe Ski Pole - 2009

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2010

I looked at a lot of adjustable poles and it boiled down to this pole and the BD carbon probe pole. I wanted a carbon lower section because of the light swing weight, strength, and a little more "give" when planting hard. These poles rock in that respect. The carbon flexes just a little, but not so much that they seem wobbly like my non-adjustable Scott carbon poles. I have fallen on them pretty hard, but they are still straight. I read reviews of the Life Link poles slipping and haven't had any slippage at all. The main reason I bought these instead of the BD poles was the length. I am 6'2" and I feel 140cm is just a little short for uphill or long traverses. I can pull these out another 5cm and they still seem super strong.

Pros: Light, strong, and long

Cons: I am not a big fan of the colors, but that is only personal taste. Also, the probe feature is cool, but you really should cary a longer probe as well. Also, they don't colapse very small, but if that is important to you, get a 3 section pole.

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding

January 31, 2010

I have Line Prophet 100s (186s) with these bindings and I have not had any problems whatsoever. I demoed them twice with alpine bindings (I think they were Lines) and then purchased them with Fritschi bindings. The only difference I noticed with the AT bindings was that they seemed to hold their edge a little better on hard snow. They work great for the backcountry as well.
