Being a bear of a guy, 5'10" and 220, half my intestines removed due to Crohns disease and had a hernia last fall, these pants have been a godsend. I normally have a 40-44 inch waist depedning on time of year, and it fits all year. The compression is amazing and improved my running the first day I wore them, keeping my tree trunk legs nice and tight all the way down to where they stop at the calves. They do not interfere when its time to put the skiboots on either. They wick the sweat away as well as if it were "chrome off a trailer hitch". The only complaints are no fly, and the patch of clth by the sac sometimes makes it more comfortable to wear a pair of boxer briefs underneath them for extra support there. But even without that, you get used to them.
The compression around the gut and lower back is important for us geezers with hernia issues but is not too tight to restrict the movement you need to ski well. I haven't tried the insulated ones yet because I ski in Utah, not Mt. Tremblant, (that IS a Canadian thing, and a good reason to fly to Utah!), but the colder it gets, the more layers you add. Its not rocket science. But for those needing some real compression and have issues with shorts riding up or legs so big that they rub together when you wear the shorts, these are a Godsend! Worth every penny!
