Mammut Nimba Softshell Jacket - Women's

March 28, 2011

It's contoured fit, but leaves enough room for light layering. I think it's fit is comparable to Arc'teryx mid-layer jackets which would be slim, but not body hugging. I also think Mammut tends to run slightly larger in the waist/hips than Mountain Hardwear or Marmot, but the chest is similar...Hope this helps!

It's A Perfect Shell!

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Women's

Patagonia Rain Shadow Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2011

It's amazing to me that such a light jacket -worn with good base/mid layers- can keep the heat in well enough to keep me warm! Does a great job blocking the wind and rain. So far, I tried it on a 2 hour hike in 10 degree weather(rainy and windy) with just a lightweight base and 260g merino wool mid-layer, and was plenty warm. I love it because it's so versatile- I can see using this in mid summer rain and mid winter skiing(w/proper layers). It seems to breathe very well when working up a sweat, too. The material has a great feel to it- it's not stiff at all like some of the others I've tried, and feels great on. Super!!! I'm 5'7" 130 lbs and the small was perfect.

Patagonia Micro Puff Jacket - Women's

December 18, 2010

I have & love the Micro Puff jacket and live in RI and think it's warm enough when active through winter, but I wouldn't use it when standing around. It keeps me warm enough into December w/out a shell, but it isn't quite enough for the really cold days unless I use a shell over it and good base-layers. I have the Mountain Hardwear Sooka jacket for those days, which I also love. This is, however, the warmest mid-layer jacket I have -since it's wind resistant and has more insulation(100 gr) than the nano puff(60 gr).

Love the hat, but the tassels tore off

Obermeyer Kiki Knit Hat - Girls'

Obermeyer Kiki Knit Hat - Girls'

Rating for this product: 4 December 4, 2010

The Kiki hat is adoreable w/it's vibrant colors(I got the purple)& tassels. My 5 yr old daughter thinks that the tiny pockets on each side make this the coolest hat she's seen. The wool makes it super warm & the fleece lining adds more warmth & keeps it soft against her skin.
That being said...after wearing this ONE day, one tassel tore completely off,and the other is hanging by a thread! It's not so expensive that I'd consider returning it, & I do love it,so I'll sew them back on myself. If it weren't for the tassels,I'd have given it 5 stars since it otherwise seems dureable & very well made. It fits her perfectly and I think it'll fit any child from 4- adult -I tried it on and since it has a lil' stretch, it fits me perfectly too!

Not my favorite Arc'teryx piece

Arc'teryx Scorpion Pant - Women's

Arc'teryx Scorpion Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 September 1, 2010

Of course these are made of high quality material. Very warm for weight & breathable, & highly water-resistant. That being said, they're made a good amount bigger than other Arc'teryx pants. I know they're a "relaxed fit", and made to wear stuff under, but when I tried them on with my baselayer underneath, they were hanging on my hips with a good amount of excess material. I expected a bit smaller. I'm 5'7" 125 lbs & small was too big. XS might have worked, but BC doesn't have any XS. The only other thing that would've been nice is handwarmer pockets(these pockets are too low on the leg to use for handwarmers).Overall these are great pants, just order a size smaller unless you like'em baggy.

Marmot Power Stretch Half-Zip Fleece Shirt - Women's

Marmot Power Stretch Half-Zip Fleece Shirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 27, 2010

Oh how I love thumbholes! What a difference it makes to have that little bit of extra coverage/wind block between jacket & gloves. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised at how warm the Power Stretch is!It's more wind resistant than most fleeces and even though it doesn't weigh much, it's thick and warm. Not to mention that it has a very flattering semi-fitted cut which tailors in at the waist without being too tight or clingy. I'm 5'6" 125lbs and the small's perfect. The bluebird is a beautiful, rich aqua color that seems a little deeper than it showed on my monitor. Great buy for cool-cold weather!

Marmot Power Stretch Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's

August 17, 2010

Hi! All Marmot jackets will definately be more tailored than The North Face, and this Power Stretch runs on the small side of Marmot, too. I'm 5'6" and usually a small in shirts. I like my jackets to be semi fitted & I find that for most North Face shells or heavier jackets run BIG & to fit me right in the chest/waist, I'd need an XS. With Marmot, the small always fits me perfectly. Marmot tends to pay much more attention to fit/detail and will be more tailored than TNF(definately much more tailored than the Venture). I'd say your best bet with this jacket is to go with your usual size. Once you do, you'll probably forget all about TNF!

Great shoes!

Teva Itunda Water Shoe - Women's

Teva Itunda Water Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2010

I've had these now for about 1 month. These are the most comfortable pair of shoes or sneakers that I've ever worn! Plus, they look great too! You may want to go a half size smaller, cuz they run a little big. Also, I do find that the straps by the ankle tend to slip a little after walking or running for a while, but it didn't affect my ratings for 2 reasons...1- if you just fold the excess strap under, they don't slide anymore. Easily fixed!2- They're still the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever worn!

Arc'teryx Easyrider Insulated Softshell Jacket - Women's

July 17, 2010

I had(let me stress HAD) the North Face Denali, and have tried my friend's Easy Rider- which I'm going to purchase for this upcoming winter -and there's no comparison! The Easy Rider is warmer by far! Now, I'm from New England where it can get windy, rainy, and pretty cold, the Denali does nothing when it's just a little windy. I couldn't wear it past 50 degrees in RI. So unless you want the wind to come through the jacket for ventilation purposes-and even then, this one is breatheable,too- I'd go with Arcteryx.
The Easy Rider isn't half as bulky either and it's definately much warmer(unless you live in a windless state). Plus this one is more water resistant than the Denali, too! After wearing Arcteryx, I'll never buy anything from TNF ever again! I hope this helps!

The North Face Varius Guide Jacket - Women's

July 6, 2010

I got the same size(xsmall Denali for xs varius) and the fit was perfect. I wouldn't change the size, but...

***IMPORTANT NOTE*** NOT ALL zip in compatible liners with TNF are actually compatible!!! I bought my Denali brand new one month before I bought my Varius, and the zippers would not match up! I got the Denali from a reputable store, but it might have been from the previous season and when I called TNF customer support, told me that they do change the zippers sometimes from year to year, and that if you don't buy the 2 styles from the same year, the "zip-in compatible" jackets may not be compatible. You might want to check the zipper first before buying
That being said, when I finally did get a zip-in compatible pair of jackets, I never even zipped them in! It was more of a pain to do so, so I just layered as I would have anyways without. Hope this helps!

Arc'teryx Motive Boatneck Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Arc'teryx Motive Boatneck Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 23, 2010

Great quality, perfectly flattering fit, and comfortable! I love the athletic fit of Arcteryx shirts- never too tight, but still tailored and always flattering. My only suggestion would be to go by their size chart...And, BTW, this one is just a little below waist length- which is a perfect length when you don't want your shirt way below your pant/shorts waistline. I'm 5'6" and it still comes below the top of my low rise pants, but not by much. LOVE IT!!!

Great t-shirt!

Arc'teryx Bird Blocks T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Arc'teryx Bird Blocks T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 23, 2010

I love Arcteryx t-shirts! They run very true to size and are usually very flattering without being too tight or too loose! This one's no different. If you measure yourself by the Arcteryx size chart, you can't go wrong. Helpful hint when buying Arcteryx clothes... I've learned recently from someone who works for Arc'teryx that the "athletic fit" is a little bit of a tighter fit than their "trim fit" throughout their clothing lines. This one is a "trim fit"- which still has a tailored look to it, but a little more room than an "athletic fit".
Very flattering and comfortable t-shirt! Hope this helps!

GoLite Wildwood Trail Run Top - Short-Sleeve - Women's

May 30, 2010

How's the fit of this top? Another website said it's fitted, and this one says regular. I love the idea of this shirt(being so lightweight), but I don't like my shirts skin tight. Semi-fitted or athletic would be fine, but I don't want to purchase it without knowing. Any help will be greatly appreciated- thanks!

Great Material... Not So Great Fit

Arc'teryx Velox Comp Sleeveless T-Shirt - Women's

Arc'teryx Velox Comp Sleeveless T-Shirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 26, 2010

I absolutely LOVE the material! It's super light and perfect for the summer heat. I'm just not a fan of the fit! I have other tanks, casual tees, and fleeces from Arcteryx and this particular tank runs unusually larger in the waist area. It runs the same as all my other Arcteryx tops in the chest, though -which is unfortunate for me because I can't just get a smaller size(it'd be too small on top!) I'm 5'7" 130 lbs and size small is usually perfect for me in Arcteryx. Just not this time.

Better than I thought!

Arc'teryx Celeris Jacket - Women's

Arc'teryx Celeris Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 20, 2010

I bought this because I needed an extra light layer for my runs, something to deal with the New England spring/summer weather when you never know how it's going to be(wet?windy?hot?cool?) It packs down close to nothing, and really does the trick when it comes to NE spring/early summer winds so far! I wasn't sure it would do much of anything when I first saw how light it was. However, it keeps me surprisingly warm, yet I never get too hot either- a perfect wind blocker. I find myself wearing it almost every day. It's cute too!
Just a note...It does fit a little larger than other Arcteryx jackets(trim fit vs athletic fit- the trim fit is looser- go figure?) So if you're in between sizes, go smaller unless you want it on the looser side. I'm 5'6" 130 lbs and the xs fits perfectly with a little room, but certainly not baggy. The front's right around the belt of my low rise's, and there's a long drop hem for coverage in back(covers most of my butt). Yet another jacket that Arcteryx has mastered!

Stoic Breaker Fleece Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 25, 2010

I absolutely love this hoodie! I'm 5'7" 125 lbs. and the small fit perfect with a little room(but not too much so it didn't look boxy or stuffed) It has a flattering shape to it. Really warm and sooooooooo soft! It makes me wonder ...what was I thinking when I ever bought a North Face Denali! That thing's super boxy not at all flattering, scratchy feel to it, and not even close to warm compared to this Stoic hoodie!!!That's not even mentioning the wind- which this one gives a bit of wind resistance too. LOVE IT!!!!

The North Face Mountain Light Parka - Women's

March 10, 2010

Help please! I'm unsure of size and fit. I usually wear a small but had to buy the TNF venture parka in xs because it runs big (prob'ly to fit layers under it). I don't need or want to be able to fit layers underneath. I'm 5'7" and around 130-135 lbs.
Does anyone have, or tried on both the venture and mountain light parka and do both jackets have the same kind of fit? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

The North Face Mountain Light Parka - Women's

March 1, 2010

It does have what you might say is an extra zipper which allows you to zip in a fleece or liner that has a compatible zipper. If you're looking for a jacket that has that, you need a jacket that is "zip-in compatible". You will see it in the "Tech Specs" in the upper right of the description page.

The North Face Venture Parka - Women's

March 1, 2010

I do not think the Khumbu would be warm enough for the below 30 degree weather you can get in NY. You might want to try the Venture with the Denali for those really cold days. I live in New England and it works well for me, but I wouldn't recommend anything less in weight than the Denali if pairing with an outer jacket like this that has no insulation. Hope this helps. Good luck!

The North Face Nuptse Fur III - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2010

Love these boots! Extremely comfortable and warm. I was worried that they might not be waterproof and just water resistant, but have had NO problems in rain or snow. I take my dog for long walks daily in rain, snow,or shine and was sick of my feet getting frozen or wet in the winter! These boots solved my problems. I've had them now through a couple of snow storms and REALLY cold weather and my feet have been completely dry and toasty!
