Arc'teryx Silo 40 Backpack - 2319-2746cu in

August 19, 2011

I use this pack for hiking and rock climbing in the warmer weather. Although it may have some unnecessary features for fair weather usage, I find it to work great.

Arc'teryx Silo 40 Backpack - 2319-2746cu in

August 19, 2011

I use this pack for climbing as well as my backcountry winter activities. I use the vertical snowboard/ski straps across the back of the pack to hold my rope when climbing. It keeps my rope super accessible and leaves more room inside the pack for other gear. I use a 30 liter dry sack for my rope to avoid dirt, rain, and damage to the rope (since it is on the outside of the pack).

Sterling Evolution Velocity Rope - 9.8mm

August 5, 2011

Top roping tends to put more wear on a rope and if durability is your main concern I would recommend something thicker in diameter, such as 10.0mm-10.5mm. Check out the Sterling Marathon Pro 10.1mm or the Sterling Kosmos 10.2mm. This rope would of course work, but would probably not last as long using it for your intentions.

I use this light all the time, night hikes, campfires, backpacking, and climbing. Light, cheap, and bright. Also love the red LED night vision light, which was the deciding factor for me when purchasing.

SealLine Kodiak Window Dry Bag

Rating for this product: 5 June 19, 2011

I take this on all my hikes and backpacks. The window is convenient and the one way valve is good for letting air out and saving space. The 10L is perfect for storing rain gear, first aid, extra socks, gloves, hat, pack towel, headlamp, sunscreen, bug repellant, and headlamp.

Multi Purpose

Marmot Kompressor Backpack - 920cu in

Rating for this product: 4 June 19, 2011

This pack has multiple uses: light daypack, peak bag, or compression sack. The design is good with three compression straps, top lid with a pocket the entire bag can stuff into, removable back panel, and the backpack straps unclip for compression sack mode. Good product for the money and surprisingly durable. As with all rucksacks they must be properly packed and balanced.

Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 19, 2011

I do not use these shoes for running, however they are great for hiking and backpacking. They have lasted me a solid two years of constant use and abuse. They are light and supportive, love the lacing system, and bomber toe cap. Goretex does restrict breathability, but that is the trade off you make for a waterproof shoe. I have owned these shoes for three years now and they are now too worn for serious use. They are not my primary hiker anymore, however, they are not dead. I still use them for work and light outdoor pursuits.

Arc'teryx Arrakis 50 Backpack - 3057-3661cu in

April 19, 2011

Has anyone considered this pack for an A.T. thru hike? I know it is on the heavy side but I figure with the weight saved from not using dry bags/pack cover plus the durability this pack has would make it a reasonable candidate. Any thoughts?

Arc'teryx Silo 40 Backpack - 2319-2746cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2010

THIS PACK IS AMAZING. I WANTED A DAY PACK THAT I COULD FIT MORE GEAR INTO IF NEEDED AND COULD USE IN THE WINTER AND CARRY MY SNOWBOARD, SNOWSHOES, ECT. PERFECT SIZE, PACKS DOWN WELL WHEN NOT FULLY LOADED. HESITANT TO BUY AT FIRST BECAUSE OF THE PRICE, GLAD I WENT FOR IT. THIS IS MY FIRST ARC'TERYX PACK BUT I DON'T THINK IT WILL BE MY LAST. THE DESIGN SEEMS TO PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY DETAIL ABOUT HOW A PACK SHOULD BE MADE. THE BACK PANELS AND WAIST STRAP FIT GREAT THEY ARE CURVED TO FIT THE NATURAL ARC OF THE SPINE AND HIPS. WATER RESISTANT ZIPPERS. THE PACK BECOMES WIDER AT THE TOP, WHICH IS SMART, I ALWAYS FIND THAT WITH MOST PACKS GEAR FALLS TO THE BOTTOM AND PUTS MORE WEIGHT ON THE LOWER BACK, THIS PACK IS BALANCED. I ALSO WENT FOR THIS PACK FOR THE ROLL TOP CLOSURE. SOME MAY NOT LIKE IT BUT I THINK ZIPPERS BECOME A HASSLE, AS WITH LID/BUCKLE CLOSURES. WORTH THE PRICE.

THESE PANTS ARE MY FAVORITE. COMFORTABLE, LIGHT, DURABLE, FITS TO SIZE, STRETCH, BLOCK WIND, BREATHABLE. GOOD FOR ANYTHING EXCEPT MAYBE EXTREME HOT/COLD TEMPERATURES. I AM APPROX. 32 WAIST, 32 INSEAM AND MED FIT AWESOME. I USUALLY LIKE MY PANTS LONG, BUT THESE STRETCH SO THEY DONT RIDE UP THE LEGS.
