Could use a little refinement...but worked well

La Sportiva Alpine Gaiter

La Sportiva Alpine Gaiter

I used these gaiters on a three day pack trip to Kings Peak in May 06. Three days of heavy, wet snowshoeing and hiking. They attached flawlessly to my MT Boots. The under securing leather straps had some stitching that frayed a bit on both gaiters. They were a bit short for over calf gaiters. They secured firmly on my calf muscle which started to ache after several hours. I am 5'8" having average size legs. They could be a bit higher, so they ride well above the calf, just under the knee. Because of this they continued to fall down. I had to pull them up time after time. They did not allow any snow or water to penetrate. They did not breathe well and became very moist. They stood up to numerous rock poundings and did not let any snow in where they contoured my boots. Overall, very rugged and tuff. I will keep them for scrambling and low wet conditions, ice etc. I would not recommend for multiple feet snow excursions.

I purchased the replacement lens because I had scratched my original ones. I purchased the Blue Mirror lens, and I have been very pleased. When the light shines directly on them, they are more of a multi color. I still squint a bit in direct light, but they get the job done. Replacing the lens was very simple and it has remained secure with no problems. I have found that when in deep powder and breathing heavy, they tend to fog up. Maybe due to snow piling on the top of the foam surrounding the goggle. They fit my small face very well, even with a helmet.
