Black Colorway is more a Dark Grey.
The North Face Habachi Jacket - Women's
October 6, 2010
Just to let all know that if you're getting the black colorway, it really is more of a Dark Grey (with a fine plaid line pattern). The zips are black as a mild contrast to the dark grey (not like the picture with a white zip puller).

The North Face Arctic Parka - Women's
December 4, 2010
Hi,
The Arctic Parka has a waterproof coat - thats what the HyVent 2L material is all about - its TNF's proprietary waterproof material. Keeps water out but lets you breathe (you won't start to be sweaty inside) and you won't feel like you're wearing a rubber coat.
Thanks.

MontBell Ultralight Down Inner Jacket - Women's
October 20, 2010
Hi,
Both the MontBell's UL Down Inner Jacket and The North Face's Foil Thermal II can be worn under your ski jacket. These will provide the warmth that you need for the really cold days. In general, both jackets function as a simple/functional down layer without the bells and whistles. Just note these other points :
- The North Face's Foil Thermal II is more like a pullover, or think of it even like a T-shirt, in terms of use and wear. You got to pull this over your head to put it on - the 3 zips just close up for a snug fit.
- The MontBell on the other hand will be a little easier to handle since its a fully zipped jacket. Normal use.
- Weight-wise and warmth-wise the MontBell wins hands down - VERY light and VERY warm (800-fill), of course at double the price that of the North Face. (No mention of the weight of the Foil Thermal II but it won't be as light as 6.1 oz definitely.) Oh if your're wondering, the MontBell website puts the specs at 800-down instead of 725. Same goes for the weight, taken from the official website instead.
- Keep in mind MontBell's very warm rating as you might get heated up in all that skiiing. There are no venting outlets.
http://montbell.us/products/disp.php?cat_id=70&p_id=2301
- There are no specifications on the length of North Face Foil Thermal but both jackets will be short (the MontBell is at 24.4 inches long). At 24 inches you should expect this at or slightly above the waist and not cover your bottom area.
- The North Face Foil Thermall II is not full down - the sleeves are Primaloft insulated and supplemented by Polartec areas for some breathability. It essentially is a hybrid construction.
- Your ski jacket should be roomy enough to take this layer in - these are both after all Down jackets. They are not super puffy but still keep that in mind.
- Minor point - The North Face Foil Thermal II does not have pockets at all - its really like a Down-padded tee. North Face tends to create these "minimalist" apparel-types. MontBell's has 2 handwarmer pockets (from website).
Well in the end it will come down to what you really need so if you want guaranteed warmth (with not too good breathability) without all that weight (for a normal Down jacket, that is) you could decide to go with the MontBell. The fact that you're looking at MontBell would mean you already know that they are known for lightweight apparel. If you don't mind the weight, lesser warmth and the "pullover" use time and time again, you can save some money and get the Foil Thermal II then.

The North Face Arctic Parka - Women's
October 18, 2010
Unfortunately, North Face's products are shippable only within the US. You will have to look at the UK range of North Face products for an equivalent parka since the UK range does not have the Arctic Parka.
You can try the Insulated Grace jacket (UK range) which is also a long-length jacket that is waterproof (HyVent) and insulated (100g Heatseeker) but it will not be as warm as the Arctic Parka which has 550-fill down.

The North Face Oso Hooded Fleece Jacket - Women's
September 24, 2010
Hi,
This is tricky but here's some hints :
1- If you do own other North Face jackets in size S, and of a standard fit (eg. Khumbu, Denali) what is the 'roominess' feel of an S for you? For me, an S can definitely take a t-shirt, a long sleeved fitted light-wool turtleneck. For a sweater, it was tight at the sleeves, and not comfy for extended wear.
2. If, however, this is your first North Face jacket, and you don't want too big a look (or don't want to 'drown' in an M), stick to fitted inner layers. For example, hoodies and loose-fit sweater types will run the problem of the tight sleeves (especially at the armpits), but you can wear comfortably with fitted inner layers like next-to-skin type of baselayers. Getting a woolen (Icebreaker brand or Patagonia Capilene series) next-to-skin kinds of baselayers or tees will definitely give you the warmth factor AND allow you to put on the Oso without the tightness.
3. Most importantly, your wearing preference - some people like a good fit being defined as loose-baggy fit, while some people like a more "closely-fitted / slightly tight but not like compression-type gear" definition. My preference is the latter, so do take the above comments in this perspective.
Oh the other point is that this is a short-length jacket (at 24.5 inch centre-back length).

The North Face Gotham Down Jacket - Women's
September 23, 2010
Hi,
i can't comment on the sizes you need except that i think your 8 yr old daughter will not be able to take these women's sleeves as they will really be too long for her.
On the point of skiing, do note that this is a really short-length urban/casual wear jacket and so bear in mind it does not have the full features of a skiing jacket like a powder/snow skirt which keeps the snow from getting inside the jacket; as well as to keep the jacket from riding up during skiing and falls. So with the Gotham you will get some snow, especially on the back which will inevitably ride up (from a skiing posture) and in really cold/wet conditions that will not be too pleasant and you will get a cold/wet back eventually seeping in. Not fun in the long run. Lastly, the hem and cuffs are ribbed and do not allow for tightening/fastening like with a hem cinch-cord or Velcro closer so thats not snow-proof.
On the other hand, if you are tolerant of these issues, and also for the fact that you are not going for a long ski tour (eg. more than a few days, going into weeks) the Gotham might be ok (it will definitely keep you warm!). So it depends on your skiing comfort preferences (in the past) and how much tolerance your children will have.
For an idea of the length, the link below with a photo of the Gotham on a model might give a clue. It will stop at the waist level, whereas for a ski jacket you would be more comfortable with a hip length one.

The North Face Stella Grace Jacket - Women's
September 23, 2010
Hi,
You could have tried on what possibly was the North Face Insulated Grace jacket. That's an insulated version of the Grace rain jacket, an unlined version of the Stellar Grace jacket that you bought. So there's actually 3 lookalikes here!
Now the Insulated Grace jacket certainly has insulation (hence its almost twice as heavy at 41 oz) - it comes with North Face's proprietary Heatseeker insulation which is a synthetic but lightweight alternative compared to Down feathers (ie. Heatseeker is thus not for the extreme cold temps).
The Insulated Grace unfortunately looks like its not making a comeback this fall/winter, so its a 2009 Fall version left selling online. Backcountry.com has it in stock but there's limited sizes and colors (White only - M, L and XL) - try this link :

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Women's
September 16, 2010
Hi. XXL is limited to Black, available (to my knowledge) only at The North Face's website at this point now. They are out of stock unfortunately but you can try to check with them from their online chat.
http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/womens-apex-bion
i have a friend who actually takes Men's Large (sizing comparable to Women's XL) so that means Men's XL would be in the range you are looking for.
From chest measurement sizings :
Women's XL: 42"
Women's XXL: above 42" (not listed)
Men's L: 44"
Men's XL: 47"
Check the actual size charts for a comparison. Currently at Backcountry, the Men's XL are in stock in Black and Deep Water Blue colors. The fit, however, would not be tapered (slightly at the waist) as in Women's fitting; they would be more a straight-looking fit.
This is just a suggestion, so it will be up to you.

The North Face Menlo Down Parka - Women's
September 16, 2010
No, this jacket is not made with waterproof fabric. Look out for jackets that are constructed with North Face's HyVent materials for waterproof quality.
Here are some examples of waterproof, down-filled North Face jackets, listed below from Backcountry.com's stock. They are a mix of urban-styled jackets as well as ski jackets (which still look ok when you use them as street outerwear). The down-fill specs (amount of insulation) are listed here too so you can gauge the insulation level to compare with the Menlo (at 550-fill down). The ski jackets are a tad warmer at 600-fill down. A last point - the ski jackets are generally shorter length (for movement) compared to the urban styled ones. Check them out to see what you need.
Urban Styled :
- Greenland Down jacket, 550-fill down, $248.95
- Brooklyn Down jacket, 550-fill down, $278.95
- Arctic parka, 550-fill down, $298.95
Ski/Semi-Urban Jackets :
- Furallure jacket, 600-fill down, from $167.37
- Destiny Down jacket, 600-fill down, $198.95
- Amore Down jacket, 600-fill down, $248.95

The North Face Arctic Parka - Women's
September 16, 2010
Hi,
The 2 chest and 2 front hand warmer pockets all come with zips. These pockets all come designed with a small covering flap that helps direct water/rain away from the zips, helping to keep the pockets dry. The internal media pocket is zipped too, with an additional slot for the earphones.
This jacket is waterproof based on North Face's HyVent 2L (2-layered) material fabric on the exterior. This will help keep you dry in wetter wintry conditions.

The North Face Apex Pneumatic Softshell Jacket - Women's
September 13, 2010
The jacket's Apex Universal fabric is primed with DWR (Durable Water Repellency) which, by your needs, is not going to work, especially if the type of rain (above the level of mists/sprinkles) is prolonged and the DWR will not be able to cope with that. Adding to this, the DWR will eventually diminish with subsequent launderings, so in the long run you would be better off with something waterproof. Btw, Apex fabrics are primarily constructed as wind-blocking fabrics. The DWR is simply an applied layer adhering to the fabric.
If you ever noticed DWR in action, heavy drizzles of rain cause the fabric to start absorbing the water (more pressure, more instances of rain drops, etc) and slightly darker patches (wetness) will appear and these will be the wet points that the insides will feel gradually. TNF's standard for Apex fabrics start at a value of 90 after a mist test according to an industry specs set by the AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists). A value of 0 is totally wet, while 100 is fully dry.
You could take a look at TNF's waterproof jackets - just look for those made with HyVent DT (Dry Touch) technology which are lightweight. The Venture jacket is a proven North Face jacket when it comes to waterproofness/breathability (not clammy). On the other hand, i've met with people who swear by the greatness of their DWR but that is really subjective.
Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, no, the Resolve does not have any inner media pocket at all. It strictly has 2 side pockets. The hood is a 3-point adjustable hood, with left/right toggles on the front face (concealed from view) and a rear cinch toggle at the back of the hood. The rear cinch functions as a quick-grab, one-hand adjustment (loosen/tighten) while the front two allow for more precise adjustment (i've found that this helps put the hood brim centrally).
*Tip - adjusting before going out with all 3 toggles indoors in front of a mirror sure helps keep your face dry instead of struggling with all 3 toggles in the middle of a storm!

The North Face Perilune Jacket - Women's
September 13, 2010
Hi,
Here's some differences :
Perilune Jkt . Venture Jkt (differences separated by the period " . " )
Back length : 27" . 26"
Weight : 23.9 oz . 12 oz
Waterproofing technology : HyVent 2L . HyVent DT
Core venting : none . pit-zips
Zip-in compatibility : yes . no
Pockets : 2 . 2 (mesh-lined as additional venting)
(both jackets' hoods are permanently fixed, both with 3-point adjustment toggles)
(both having hook-and-loop velcro cuffs)
(both are standard fit)
What this all means is that the Perilune is designed primarily as a waterproof shell (HyVent 2L or 2-layered) with a zip-in compatibility and is thus more of a cold-weather jacket where you can zip-in fleeces for added warmth, like the North Face's Tri-climate series. A Zip-in compatible shell has another line of zip teeth so that compatible fleeces can be attached. But a Perilune falls short of a full-featured skiing jacket like the Varius Guide which comes with the other stuff like wind-skirt, and additional pockets (normally for goggles, etc.).
The Venture jacket is strictly more of a waterproof rain jacket in terms of its design. However, it can always be used as a shell. But that being said there are no zip-in compatibility on this. Its also much lighter, shorter (1" shorter and that helps in movement) and with pit-zips can be used for tropical conditions. The different HyVent technology used here (HyVent DT or Dry Touch) is always prevalent in the North Face's lighter jackets where weight is a consideration (eg. running jackets).
In my opinion the Perilune is thus a more heavy-duty jacket whilst the Venture is a lighter one (although it can still function as a shell). That's why the price is also reflective of this, with the Perilune being more expensive (retailed originally at $149 versus the Venture at $99).
So now the question is what purpose/function you require the jacket to fulfill and then purchase accordingly.
Hope this helps.
(Note : Based on North Face's website, the Perilune actually doesn't have any pit zips, and is a HyVent 2L and not 3L technology jacket. 3L or 3 layered HyVent jackets come at a higher pricing.)

August 12, 2010
Hi,
i've only passed by Moosonee, Ontario once and it wasn't in the winter, though. But i've heard of record lows of -45 C winters there.
i'm a great fan of North Face, but at this point i'd like to recommend you looking into the brands Canada Goose and/or 66°North (not carried by Backcountry though it used to be). Canada Goose makes full loft duck-down jackets, thigh length so u stay comfy in near-Arctic conditions. 66°North is an Icelandic-based company so u can also find mid-layers (with built-in face-mask-type hoods). The North Face Venture Jacket - Women's
August 11, 2010
i actually looked physically at the two jackets at a store, and the greatest difference is the inner lining.
The Resolve has a mesh lining inside, as compared to the Venture jacket which has the HyVent DT print (so its more like unlined).
Some people have commented that they do not like the "bare" feel of the Venture when they get sweaty and the insides stick to the skin (which is not supposed as the DT means Dry Touch but well there are those heavy activity times). With the Resolve, the mesh lining helps alleviate this "sticky" situation.
You can check the actual TNF website which shows the insides for both jackets.
The flip side is that the Resolve is slightly heavier since the Venture does not need an extra lining layer inside.
*Technical note : the Resolve and Venture each use different grades of HyVent waterproofing :
- HyVent 2L (for the Resolve - which typically has to have an extra lining like mesh or even taffeta like in the Varius Guide jacket)
- while the Venture uses HyVent DT or 2.5L (there is a sprayed-on application (hence the .5 layer) which therefore does not require an additional layer of mesh).
TNF is currently pushing for HyVent DT / 2.5L since it is lighter and serves better in terms of performance criteria like light-weightness.
The other differences are like the elastic cuffs in the Resolve as opposed to the Velcro ones in the Venture. The Venture has pit-zips too. Oh yes, i noted that the Resolve has a high collar but its thinly-fleece lined for some level of comfort.
i think if u want to pack and carry a jacket around most of the time u might want to stick with the Venture.

The North Face Venture Jacket - Women's
May 25, 2010
Hi,
No, the Venture does not have mesh inside. For North Face's HyVent DT (DryTouch) series of waterproofing material, no meshes are used (since its supposed to feel dry next to your skin; however reviews have shown otherwise, for some cases).
If you like a mesh-lined rain jacket, try the North Face's Resolve jacket (a bit cheaper too) which is fully meshed inside. This uses the HyVent 2L material series (2-layer, and not HyVent DT). However, got to let you know that jackets with the DT are usually are lighter, which is one of its aims.

Sierra Designs Hurricane Jacket - Women's
May 21, 2010
Hi,
Some suggestions :
U can try the North Face 1) Varius Guide or 2) K Jacket (more an urban jacket). i personally own them, and they have HyVent 2L in faille weave, so it has a soft feel in the interior, as compared to the not too comfy feel in North Face's more commonly used waterproof material HyVent DT (Dry Touch - used in the Venture), which is not lined. The DT is always lighter, though.
As a guide when u shop North Face rainwear, avoid the HyVent DT range since u don't like that feel.

Its not stated on TNF's website either.
If this is merely a non-hooded version of the Redpoint Optimus, then it should be 100g.
Just a guess.

Norrøna Bitihorn Aero 60 Jacket - Women's
May 17, 2010
Hi,
In gist, this jacket functions only as a feather-weight windbreaker for running. Breathable but not water-proof, nor stated as water-resistant.
The Aero60 has been primarily designed as a windbreaker (from Norrona's product page - "Recycled lightweight, breathable all-weather wind shelter"). The Aero60's fabric material has been designated as windbreaking while being breathable (60Mbar/l/m2/s) at the same time. The Houdini does not state its breathability rating so one can't compare it specifically, though.
There is no mention of water-resistance like DWR applications for this fabric (although Norrona's higher grade wind-resisting fabric, the Aero100, has been cited as water-repellant). The Houdini is layered with Patagonia's Deluge DWR.
Both are lightweight, with the Patagonia being lighter at 4 oz, compared to the Aero60 at 5.6 oz.
Only the Aero100 series have been designed to be packed into its chest pockets.
For truly waterproof-ness, look at Norrona's "dri1-dri3" series (although the pricing is comparable to Gore-tex pac-lite jackets from other brands).

Norrøna Lofoten warm 1 Fleece Jacket - Women's
May 15, 2010
Hi,
Norrona is a well-established Norwegian brand specializing in outdoor apparel. From comments i've received so far the clothes are well made (like Arc'teryx) but do bear in mind most of their apparel cater to technical use so that means high-active wear.
That being said, the "Warm1" material is a very lightweight fleece. Their website (which does not carry this jacket anymore) labels similar jackets made from Warm1 as a lightweight, under 200 grams fleece. Definitely as a technical layer and for active uses.
i can trust Norrona that this is definitely a fleece but don't be surprised if its really light and thin. If you are looking for warmer fleeces u might have to look elsewhere (at least 300 grams weight fleece types). An example is the North Face's Khumbu jacket.
Hope this helps.

The North Face Greenland Down Jacket - Women's
May 15, 2010
Hi,
The TNF Greenland is definitely suitable for cold/urban wear.
The warmth rating goes by its insulation of goose down : at 550-down fill, it is mighty warm for transit/walking in cold winter uses, just what u might need in Boston. By my experience (and do note that personal cold tolerances differ), a 550-fill down jacket can be simply worn over a cotton tee in temps down to 25-30 F. So imagine layering over a fleece.
There are other options, at this price range available too. Here's some suggestions (however depending on your size/avail. stock):
1. Menlo Down Parka -
Same price/more pockets (2 more)/longer length jacket (by 1 inch longer which helps against the cold). Same insulation rating of 550-fill down. This is a shiny, puffy alternative - but its longer length and additional pockets are a draw for the price. But this looks very different from the Greenland.
2. Gotham Down Jacket -
Styled similar to the Greenland, cheaper but shorter (at 24 inches back length versus the 27 inches of the Greenland). Same no. of pockets and same insulation rating. From past comments, sometimes you might not want that much "material" to lug around campus, especially indoors in the lectures and halls. At 24 inches, it means the bottom (waist down) isn't covered.
3. Transit Down Jacket -
Warmer (600-fill down), longer length (longest of the selection here), and cheaper. Same no. of pockets. For those really cold days, and also so that you don't need to layer much more. Colors and sizes limited though.
The above selections are available from Backcountry.com.
Hope this helps.

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's
April 2, 2010
Hi,
i too suffer from this as i am of petite sizing, so i border between a child's Large to a Women's XS.
You could look into Children's sizes, in size Large or even Medium. Here i am firstly taking chest measurements as a guide. Womens' XS chest measurements are at 32 inches, with Children's Large at 31 inches, and Medium at 28 inches.
The down side is the sleeve lengths. Typically if you are of petite sizing, the sleeve lengths from the Children's sizes might fit, but if you're average or tall/slim then the children's sleeves are a no-go at all (too short).
In the end do scrutinize all the size charts carefully (the Precip adult and children's models), and actually the best way is to physically try on the sizes for yourself. i know this defeats the purpose of online shopping but since we are not of the 'regular' sizes i would do that so i will find out my fit once and for all and in the future i know what sizes i can order online.
Given that i don't know of Marmot retail stores, i normally try on jackets from North Face which are quite widely available.
Hope this helps.

Columbia Arcadia Rain Jacket - Women's
March 15, 2010
Hi,
There is a liner but its thinnish and does not count for anything in terms of warmth. So you will need something like a separate fleece jacket layered underneath if you want warmth. This is solely a rain jacket on its own.
For the liner, Its a polyester-based mesh (this helps wick away perspiration) so you are not going to feel the old-skool rainjacket material (nylon). Check out the attached blow-up pix of the hood which shows the inner mesh liner.
Hope this helps.

Columbia Arcadia Rain Jacket - Women's
March 6, 2010
Hi,
This is a very broad general suggestion as a start, and thats because i don't really know what use (active/passive) you will use it for.
Try the new Venture Triclimate (available at the TNF website).
It has the Venture as the outer tri-climate shell, and a lightweight fleece (TKA 100 - 100 weight fleece, not as warm as the Denali which is 300 weight fleece) as an internal liner. This way u can have 1 complete piece that you can use for the above 2 occasions: use the Venture shell alone as a rainjacket, and as a waterproof shell + warmth together with the fleece liner in the colder months.
Another good reason is that this Venture Triclimate outershell may be able to accomodate your Denali as a zip-in liner too.
Check with the live chat on the TNF website.

The North Face Apex Bionic Jacket - Women's
March 4, 2010
Hi,
Just an elaboration from Ed's answer :
The key difference between these 2 primarily wind-blocking jackets are the proprietary materiality of its fabrics. The Apex Bionic uses an in-house TNF wind-blocking Apex Climateblock material, while the Sentinel utilizes a Gore product - Gore Windstopper. These main purpose of these 2 fabrics are to function as a fusion of shell + fleece, reducing overall weight. Technically, Gores product is multi-layered as compared to TNFs dual layer Apex fabric - hence the cost differences.
The other visual difference is the fit - the Sentinel would have a better athletic look as it fits snugly.
These would be the 2 basic differences. Remember that wind-blocking does not equate to thermal insulation so in cold weather without winds you would still feel the chill, although both softshells offer a small degree of warmth. I personally have another TNF jacket with Apex Aerobic fabric, and in a windy 30 F coastal environment I felt cold in the arms.
The full comparison is made below, each property separated with a slash /. There are many similarities.
Apex Bionic / Sentinel
$129 / $229 (original prices - there is a $100 difference)
Standard Fit / Performance Fit - more snug-fit
TNF Apex Climateblock - a softshell / Gore Windstopper 3-layer softshell
(both materials are polyester-based wind-blocking fabrics)
100% windproof / 100% windproof (both rated at 0 CFM : cubic feet per minute)
water-resistant / water-resistant
fleece interior / raschel fleece interior - more lush feel to it
2 hand pockets + napolean pocket / 2 hand pockets
standard cuffs / elastic cuffs
none / hem cinch-cord
25.75 inches / 26 inches (back length from centre)
not specified / 22.8 ounces (weight)

Arc'teryx Easyrider Insulated Softshell Jacket - Women's
March 3, 2010
Hi,
It depends on what kind of warm preference and use you are talking about, and also that the Denali (made with Polartec Classic fleece, 300 weight) and this Easyrider (Polartec Power Shield) are created from two different materials which serve two different functions.
The Denali's Polartec Classic 300 fleece is a heavy-duty warm fleece made for general use. But it is not windproof. The Easyrider's Polartec Power Shield is more a softshell (defined from Polartec's website itself), and is a material that attempts to fuse some weather protection with a warmth layer. It is rated to block 98% wind, but as a comparison in terms of warmth insulating material on its own i would think it isn't as warm as the Denali. Lets just say that its a softshell material not as warm as a 300 weight fleece.
For general uses like commuting, walking to school, etc. the Denali would be a warmer bet. For this kind of use the Easyrider's Power Shield is not going to be better, even though it has wind-blocking properties (you already feel the chill before the wind blows, compared to the Denali).
For technical uses like skiing, alpine climbing the Easyrider is a better bet as it blocks the wind while keeping you warm enough (because your own aerobic activity generates heat too) but not overheat (no pit zips - mind you). Oh forgot to mention - the Easyrider's Power Shield material is fused with spandex, allowing for better stretch properties.
Hope this helps you decide better.

Hi.
Its waterproof / breathable rather, so i wouldn't exactly say this is 100% waterproof. HyVent is the same fabric technology used for TNF's rainjackets like the Venture jacket. But from your "hard downpour" requirements you might want to look at Gore-Tex standards instead?

The North Face Cacia Jacquard Jacket - Women's
March 2, 2010
Hi Stephanie.
I'm afraid i have to say it depends on what you want to use it for, and what you are accustomed to.
Would you be asking for something warm for :
1) walking in downtown urban conditions, or
2) something warm while doing highly aerobic downhill skiing?
80g weight of TNF's proprietary Heatseeker (synthetic insulation material) is not going to be pretty warm (i've worn the Inlux Insulated which has also 80g Heatseeker) even for urban walking in winter (say windy Boston in 15-30 F), and i think you need an inside layer. Simply because walking alone does not generate much body heat too. i'm of petite size, and regularly need at least 0.5 mile walking to feel some warmth generated. Once you step out from a nicely warm mall you might feel the chill when the wind blows through you. This jacket also looks like a short length jacket.
In a more active setting like downhill powder-ing you might still need an internal layer. Actually more of like depends how cold the place you are at. I'd say at 10s F you still would need an inner layer with this.
For dryness, yes i can bet on TNF's HyVent layering and fully taped seams which will keep snow wetness away - totally. HyVent is the main fabric used in TNF's famous rain jackets like the Venture and Resolve jackets. At 25 psi (to withstand 25 pounds of rainfall per square inch before it gives way and gets wet) it is very close to Gore-Tex which is rated at 28 psi.
Maybe Dave or the Pro Team can add on to this with regards to the warmth rating. Remember too what are your own cold tolerances.
Thanks.

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Women's
February 8, 2010
Hi.
A most difficult question, since "fashionable" depends on personal taste - but here's an attempt to help you, classified in terms of "the look" (and hence not in terms of priority). Most importantly, the performance aspects are NOT considered (whether u need a warm jacket or not is not taken into consideration here), so do keep that in mind.
One key factor would be that these choices attempt to 'break out' of the common TNF jackets seen on the street, so these are NOT the usual "popular-choice" type of jackets.
Here goes:
1. Motor-Rock
Cacia Jacquard Jacket.
High-end, but has a quiet sophistication to it; an above the "leather-jacket look". The key is its Jacquard textile - a way of weaving the fabric that brings outs its sophisticated look. Please note that this is a highly technical alpine jacket : it is packed with features; almost bomb-proof.
2. Parisian-Chic
Menlo Parka.
Fancy strolling down Paris along the Avenue des Champs-Élysées in this in the evenings and totally blending in with the high culture cafes and restaurants. However, note that this is a lov-it-or-hate-it jacket; some people have the impression that this is a Michelin-costume, since its down-filled. Dark jeans welcome.
3. Tokyo-Urbanite
Apex Aphrodite Jacket.
Downtown tokyo bustles with a lot of fashion-in-black : sleek coats and dark silhouettes. Make a subtle but clean statement with this urbanismo jacket. Try this in NYC too. Black jeans complete the look.
4. Grunge-Street
Thatch Hoodie : Cryptic Collection.
Thanks to the designers at TNF, the street-styled graffiti print hoodie ups your hip-index anytime. Survive SoHo with this.
(Note: not your usual cotton hoodie, but made with TNF's Apex fabric so there's kinda semi-gloss to the material.)
Alternative : Men's Prankster Hoodie (also in Apex fabric), if you are the "borrow-my-boyfriend's-clothes" type.
PS - u might need to source some of the jackets direct from the TNF website.

The North Face Pharak Fleece Jacket - Women's
February 6, 2010
Forgot to add that this Pharak jacket fits the bill too: warm (TKA 300 - same as Khumbu) and long enough (25.5 inches b. l.).
Anyway, i didn't suggest the Momentum like Dave did 'cos i'm not sure if the Momentum's TKA Superstretch fleece would be warm enough (its modified for added stretch-use?).
TNF has a range of active fleeces like the Borealis jacket that aren't heavy fleece types; just right for active use. Hence my list of fleeces that range from TKA 200-300 / Polartec 300.

The North Face Pharak Fleece Jacket - Women's
February 6, 2010
Hi.
i am gathering u need it as a warmth jacket, judging from the fact that you prefer fleece, u like your Khumbu (25.5 inches back length, built with TKA 300 fleece weight which is very warm) and that the Windwall 1 is too short (24 inches back length).
Here's five choices, hope this helps you decide better!
(Btw i am NOT a TNF rep...!)
1. Pumori jacket - fleece, Polartec 200 (not as warm as Khumbu but lighter), 26 inches back length - One of the "staple" mid-layers, beside the Khumbu.
2. Denali jacket - fleece, Polartec 300 (as warm as Khumbu, if not warmer), 26 inches b. l. - Very common jacket, but try the new color schemes (White heather).
3. Solar Flare jacket - knitted fleece (as warm as Khumbu), 26 inches b. l. - A new product from TNF, with nice textures.
4. Osito Jacket - silken fleece (not as warm as Khumbu), 25.5 inches b. l. - The silken fleece has a luxurious feel to it.
5. TKA 200 Kimber Full Zip - fleece (TKA 200 - not as warm as Khumbu), back length NOT KNOWN, unfortunately - This is great where budget is concerned. U can try to check with TNF live assistant (like a live chat).
