Analog Dylan Slim Fit Denim Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 6, 2012

I'm picky on my jean fit. I've got calves bigger than most guys thighs. I've got a nasty huge but. But I like a slim(er) fitting jean. enter these. They're just slim enough for me to wear comfortably. I don't ever feel constricted or anything in them. oh, and they're super comfy. love the soft stretch

VIVOBAREFOOT Breatho Trail Run Shoe - Men's

VIVOBAREFOOT Breatho Trail Run Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2012

I'm giving it 5 stars. that might be a stretch but its well above other 4's i've given in my book. When I heard that vivo was coming out with this shoe I was super excited. Their neo trail is a little thick for what I want. When I first put these shoes on, my feet had an orga**censored**. they are soft, comfy, a nice light stretch on the uppper and most of all breathable. When I read preliminary reviews before the final product hit the shelves a lot of people complained about the weight. They're definitely on the heavy side for a minimal shoe. But, honestly I forget about that when wearing them.

My biggest beefs with these: They seem to be designed with wearing socks in mind, only. they are beyond comfy when I rock some socks, but when I take them out sockless some of the thread and seams really irritate my feet. and that's quite the feat. I'm barefoot a heckofalot and wear only minimal shoes year round. I also notice they don't breath nearly as well when sockless. My feet became very clammy when I took just a basic walk around the block with my dog sockless.

one observation: these are definitely a trail shoe. the lugs are perfect for gripping dirt and rock, but they do not feel very stable on pavement. I feel like I'm walking around with cleats (almost at least!).

Overall, great shoe. Can't wait to get it out backpacking, I think its going to be the pants off my old merrells and VFFs

Spyder Trouble Maker Pant - Men's

Spyder Trouble Maker Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 22, 2012

This year the snow gods have not been kind. that lack of kindness has been passed on from me to my trouble makers. Within the first two weeks of rocking these I already had to whip out my duck tape from ripping them on trees. I was preparing to be very disappointing, but since then these have held up incredibly well. During the very wet snow fall we had recently I was expecting to be soaked afterwards - rode 9 to 9 (at Brighton) after all and my previous 686's would be soaked. Stokage. Pair that with the "not baggy" punk snowboarder pants and not skinny jeans are those my sisters pants fit they are nearly perfect. They are relaxed just enough to allow for as much layering as you could want and no restriction of movement.

Discrete Sigma Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 January 22, 2012

I've got a small head and I don't like tall boy beanies, but instead prefer a pretty close to head fit. This is dang near to that, its not quite what I'd cal a slim head fit - its a little loose and has some extra stuff up there, but its so soft and comfy. Its become my go to beanie when I need to run out of the house.

Raw Revolution Organic Food Bar - 12 Bars

Rating for this product: 5 January 22, 2012

I'm on a constant quest to find an healthy (truly), easy/quick snack to take with me places. Just snagged some of these in the raspberry/chocolate. holy hannah do they takes good. in the first 3 days I ate 6 of them. They've replaced my Luna's which takes like a bad rice crispy treat (but still good, much better than a typical nasty power bar. yuk). plus, this thing packs a punch of feeling full and not feeling nasty or super thick like some bars do. I take these to campus, to the gym, to the mountain. I have a stash in my car, in each of my many backpacks/bags I use. great go to snack.

Stoic Forge Glove

Stoic Forge Glove

Rating for this product: 4 January 8, 2012

Gloves are one thing in my gear closet that I don't (didn't) have anything too spectacular. just cheapos that would be bulky, not terribly waterproof but they'd do the job. Enter these. snagged the orange and they compliment my blue jacket quite well. When I tried them on my hands god beyond excited. these are by far the comfiest glove I've worn. also the least bulky and gives me the most dexterity. I ride brighton and have taken these up to Whitefish (big mtn montana). My experience: they just aren't quite warm enough for the colder days for me (I paired them up with a lighter liner and it definitely helps). And the way I ride, I tend to fall a lot (its not a good day unles you go home sore, righ!?) and there's definite wear and tear on these bad boys already. they look like i've drug them through the pits of 2 gnarly seasons already. my only other gripe is after long days up at Brighton they tend to slowly start to soak up water - the wool lining keeps my hands dry but still concerning. All gripes considered though, these rock for 90+% of my shredding days and I love them.

VIVOBAREFOOT Evo Trail Running Shoe - Men's

VIVOBAREFOOT Evo Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 27, 2011

I wore out my five finger bikila's recently and I really wanted to try something that would be more durable. 2 bikila's in less than 8 months just isn't worth 100each. Enter these. I got them as a replacement running shoe, but I love them so much that I've found myself wearing them as my main casual shoe lately. they're extremely comfy and breathable (though not super ideal for utah winter weather. meh, worth it). They've replaced my merrell barefoots as my day to day campus shoe favorite by a landslide. The yellow is a killer color, can't wait till (if?) we pick up some more colors that vivobarefoot makes the evo in. considering buying a second pair so I can have a dedicated casual and running shoe. I took out the flimsy little insole and it helped it feel more like a true minimal shoe. highly recommend this.

Clik Elite ProBody Sport Camera Pack - 1100cu in

Clik Elite ProBody Sport Camera Pack - 1100cu in

Rating for this product: 5 September 18, 2011

I love this pack. Its very well built. I have put a lot of abuse on this thing for the last two years. Its been everywhere from snowboarding at brighton to zion narrows to day hiking in the Uintas. I'm glad we finally picked this guy up. However, I think this is in the wrong category. This is a day pack through and through.

weatherproof (resistant?) camera bay zippers with a couple of dividers. it fits my 60D with 17-40L and spare lenses - 50mm prime, 15mm fisheye and either my tele or macro lens. The top compartment has plenty of room to stuff for a full day hike. I've stuffed lunch, jacket, extra camera equipment and other various items in there without issue. This also has a dedicated bladder pocket, it fits my 100oz (3 liter) bladder like a glove. It has plenty of small compartments. Small one on the very bottom of the pack that I keep my batteries, memory cards and other various things in. a small one that I don't use by the camera block, one on the top filled with microfiber for sunglasses, filters and my cable release. There's also another zipper right next to the mesh pocket on the back that I keep my lens cleaner stuff in.

My complaints, as no pack is perfect
1.the orange plastic things on the zippers are flimsy – I've broken off two. It doesn't affect anything though is its no big deal.
2. the mesh pocket on the side that holds the tripod is not that durable. I wore a hole through it last summer so I had to reinforce it with some good ole gorilla glue – its been bombproof since, but future versions hopefully will address this.

As a side note, looks like clik has made some minor changes to the pack since I got mine 2 years ago (the back pocket looks a tad different, and mine doesn't have a rain cover)

Ahem. this thing is bright. like really bright.. the dimmest setting on this is still nearly as bright as any previous or current other headlamp I have. Brian: That's it, my sentence is over.
Stewie: Your sentence is what, Brian? Over.
Brian: My sentence is… wait a minute… I have to say over, even if the sentence ends with the word over?
Stewie: Ends with the word what, Brian? Over.

Teva Zilch Sandal - Men's

Teva Zilch Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 24, 2011

When I got my hands on these I was stoked. Teva is a great brand with a great rep and this shoe is well designed functionally and aesthetically. Being a big fan of barefooting and 0 heel drop... I immediately wanted a pair of these when I saw pics of them before they were out. can you blame me? they look great, especially next to my huaraches (though, i do like them, but...) and blend in my better than my many pairs of VFFs. They are pretty thick at 10mm, but for some of the stuff I want to do in them, i might be grateful. I can use my other stuff when i'm wanting better ground feel. pulled them out of the box and the blue just looked great. My heart skipped a beat. The stokage didn't last long though. I seem to have some of the oddest feet around. My big toe would not fit into the toe loop. I stretched it out with my hand for about 5 min and finally got it to squeeze in there but i feel like my circulation is being cut off and its very noticeable that there is something on my toe. I still have not had much time to break these in, so I'm hoping with a couple more days use they'll loosen up for me. Updates will come. Sizing seems to be a tiny bit on the small side. Most of my shoes are 10.5's though I do have a number of 10s and 11's. I snagged a 10.5 my toes are rather close to the edge.

****UPDATE******
Ok, I may have jumped the gun on this review. But I hadn't been this excited for a new product in a long time. So, for the good news, especially for us big toed (?) people: the toe does stretch out nicely, just be patient with it. the 10MM thickness is pretty thick, I took it out on some trails that my treksports (five fingers) have issued with (rocks) and these certainly handle them better. Also, after some usage out on the trail, I have decided to size down to a 9.5. I'm bringing my stokage back up to 5 stars (originally 3)

Rating for this product: 4 June 1, 2011

These are great pants. Light enough to take out in hot weather, warm enough to handle spring and fall hiking. They have good stretch and enough pockets for me.

My issues is that i'm a short big guy. these are at least 2 inches too long for me and there is no cinch cord at the foot like there are on my other hiking pants. My hope for the future is stoic rolls that out or rolls out short (and maybe long for the tall guys) inseams

but beyond that length issue, quite happy with these

Great jacket. its very warm, the omni heat lives up to the hype for sure. love the pit zips. that's not something you would typically find for this kind of jacket. not sure if I'd call this a fleece jacket... its kind of in its own little world. So far I've worn this for just casual use such as walking across campus on cold days. its kept me warm...almost too warm on some days. I've worn it in the teens with a tee and have been perfectly fine. A large fits pretty good, a bit tight but not too bad: 5 foot 8 ish, 235 lbs, ~38 waist.

The North Face Locknar Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

August 3, 2010

Hi Jeff,

it will do better than most hoodies though as its not made of cotton.
its not waterproof - it is water resistant. it does offer decent warmth and it would make a good mid layer (as in a good insulating layer under a hard shell jacket). That said, it would make a good "warm weather" boarding jacket (like those awesome warm spring days were you can *almost* wear a tee). I'd suggest getting a hard shell jacket to pair up with this and you'll be set.
Hope this helps!

Marmot Trail Wind Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 3, 2010

I got this, admittingly not knowing exactly what I'd do with it. So there was a very good chance it was going turn out to be that jacket that wasn't ever used much.luckily, it turned out to be the jacket that goes everywhere with me, because it can - you know - just in case. This bad boy stuffs into a small zip lock bag with room to spare (the sandwich size ones) and finds itself almost a permanent item in my small camera backpack (clik elite Probody Sport). its really really light, basically no heat value. but its saved my butt tons of times against those little blood sucking insects. It blocks wind quite well... similar to a softshell. its has 1 pocket on the chest and elastic cuffs. it has mesh under the arms to give you some good air flow. the material almost feels...flimsy but so far has held up to some pretty good abuse. in the little rain its been exposed to, its performed pretty well. and i have complete range of motion, its does feel like i have no jacket on when i'm wearing it. its just awesome.

Merrell Outland Mid GTX Boot - Men's

August 3, 2010

Hey Joe. Our return policy rocks - its unlimited - so you are under no time limit to send the shoes back. if you grab them and find out the shoes are not for you its a super easy process to return.

That said, I have EE feet myself and I find that these shoes fit me very well width wise, I have doubts that they'll work for an EEEE foot though but I can't say for sure. These shoes are technically just a D (standard/normal width) afterall. if you do get them - put up a review so we all know! hope this helps

Westcomb Vapor FX Hooded Jacket - Men's

July 12, 2010

its a shell (there's no insulation on the jacket). Thus you have complete control over what you wear underneath it for warmth. And there's not really any heat retention on the jacket. granted it will be better than no jacket LOL, but it has nothing like that titanium heat sheet.

Marmot Abode Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 June 16, 2010

On this baby's first outing it 1. got down poured on and kept me dry. 2. kept me cool on a warm spring night. 3. survived a muddy, active puppy pushing against the walls and running through he doors 3. got hit with some pretty nasty wind and held strong 4. got peed on by 2 random giant poodles (who then got chased by my dog LOL). Its been all uphill from there. love this tent. its a bit on the heavy side for a 2P but its very sturdy and rather roomy (bigger for example than the marmot Aura, but a lb heavier).

ALPS Mountaineering Chip Table

ALPS Mountaineering Chip Table

Rating for this product: 3 June 16, 2010

I got this because i'm a cheap poor college student with a small car. a table that fits into a bag that's smaller than my camp chair peaked my interest. its a great idea, in theory. though the practical use is somewhat limited. you can make it pretty tight, but its still a fabric table and there will always be some give. But its build quality is very good. i think this is going to be a long and rocky relationship, because I do like it, and its been used quite a bit already. as the review before me states, this is for when any table is better than no table.

Amazing pad. its very comfy, packs very well, is extremely light and yet provides enough padding to make it my go to pad even when car camping. well worth the (slight) extra weight over the prolite. I do wish that it came with something out of the bag to tie it down with (instead of shelling out for the stuff bag). being the gear junkie i am, i have tons of Velcro ties lying around so its no big deal to me.

Marmot Approach Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Approach Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 28, 2010

Took this softshell out on its first camping trip this weekend to a middle west ish Utah Desert. It blocks wind very well, not 100% but enough to neutralize it and keep you happy. It resists dirt better than expected, resists water very well and is comfortable.

I bought this softshell with one thing in mind: I want something very light (warmth and weight wise) and this fits the bill. I overhead a lot and needed something light and breathable for temps in upper 30's and above. So far its perfect.

Contour ContourHD 1080p Wearable Camcorder

Rating for this product: 5 March 16, 2010

copied from my review on BC:
Video picture is GREAT. It shoots a very smooth HD video but be warned that it doesn't play smooth on many computers. Burning to a DVD solves said problem (or having a more powerful computer!). It got a great low profile build and mounts great. but like others have said, it is shaky n a helmet. Battery lasts a whileCons: The built in speaker sucks. It doesn't record audio well at all. While some might not see it as a big deal 1/2 the fun of watching a video is hearing what they say or what goes on. Not a deal breaker by any means but more of an inconvenienceYou have to charge the battery while its in the camerathe software it comes with sucks. Luckily we already have some great corel video editing software so its no big deal.Overall opinion so far: Great helmet camera and worth every penny. I'll link some videos soon...

and my update:
Just a quick update to my review. We have since used this camera a lot more and it. the speakers are working a lot better after use. i don't know if its a break in time or what, but it does record sound a lot better. It doesn't compare to a typical camcorder but you can at least hear what is going on.

I'm still impressed with the video quality. We have an canon camcorder that is a few years old that we use that retails bran new right now for around 2 grand. And this at bare minimum compares with it quality wise.

Superfeet

Superfeet Trim-To-Fit Green Insole

Superfeet Trim-To-Fit Green Insole

Rating for this product: 4 March 5, 2010

I have horrible feet. Not only have I has surgeries but I can't live without a good footbed. I'ved used everything from the really expensive molded ones from the doctors to the $10 dollar ones you find at a drug store. I finally landed on Soles (brand) and specifically their Ultra's and the Ed Viesturs which are just a little less rigid than the Ultra's. I have used those for the last 8+ years.

After hearing good things about these superfeets I decided to try them out. They're a good deal cheaper ..and I find I like them. The Sole Ed's are "softer" but more rigid than the superfeets. While having a rigid footbed is nice for some stuff it can really wear on my foot. The superfeets are much more flexible but also offer less padding (minuscule amounts though). I have worn them side by side and the soles seem to allow my feet to breath better but that could just be my imagination too. The soles offer a better arch support. While rigid is good to have for some purposes they wear out my feet very quickly, these are less intense so I'll probably end up putting these in my everyday shoes and my soles will stay in my hiking boots, running shoes, etc. The construction of the superfeets seems to be superior to the Soles. One of my biggest complaints on my soles is that the top fabric starts peeling off after only a short period of time.

Overall I'm not ready to completely replace my Soles, but these offer a more affordable alternative and I'm happy with them and would buy them again.

This hoodie looks awesome. its pretty light so don't expect it to be really warm.

At first I thought it was a great quality but I notice a few threads popping up randomly and some of the fabric is balling up and I've only had it for a few weeks and the zipper could be a lot smoother. I'm starting to wonder how long this thing will last. I've definitely seen better built jackets. But that said, I do love it.

Rating for this product: 4 January 24, 2010

Good hat, very thin and light weight. Its also reversible, or I use it as such at least. the inside of the ink is a much lighter blue. My favorite thing about the hat is its so compact - I can throw it in my jacket pocket and forget about it.

I got this for running and for warmer days. I wanted something that would fit very snug on my head but this is a little tall still so it only garnished the 4 stars.

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 January 24, 2010

I bought this jacket in orchid purple for my mom's birthday earlier this month. Its a lot higher loft than expected. For being someone who tries to avoid north face at all costs because if its status/popularity, I really like this jacket and so does my mom.

One thing of note, our photo of orchid purple on here doesn't show the color of the sleeves color well. They're a darker purple, so this jacket is a two tone.

My Favorite Jacket

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2010

Wow. Where to begin here. This jacket is easily my favorite one. I've sported it for over a month now. Its incredibly good looking for one a shoftshell. its pit zips are awesome. the pockets are big and most of all the whole inside is full of a very fuzzy, high loft, soft fleece. Everyone who I've shown it to loves this jacket, and all the girls get extremely jealous when I have them feel how soft it is inside.

This jacket is incredibly warm - much warmer than I expected it to be. Its warmer than my insulated bombshell, my old Columbia down coat, and everything else I have, and yet its extremely light. I've taken this beauty up into the (winter) Utah mountains to do photography with just a tee on under and I'm almost hot with this on. This is in temperatures well below freezing. It resists water very well and is a force against the wind.

My one complaint: its too warm. I can only wear this jacket below 30 degrees otherwise I start to overheat. I can rarely wear it up on the U of U campus because i just get to hot. I can't wear it inside for more than a few minutes without breaking into a sweat. This is a complaint because I want to wear it more than I can.

Like all stoic gear. Size up. Large is my normal size, XL is what I bought, and it fits me like a glove.

Seirus Xtreme All Weather Glove

January 24, 2010

Hey there,

It depends on how long you're in the cold with these gloves. I've been out in 20/teens for shorter amounts of time photographing or driving to campus and have been fine with these gloves. Would I wear them for hours on end while boarding? No, they won't be warm enough like dodo said. And they are a tight fit - so if you go the liner rout, definitely size up.

DAKINE Sequence Backpack w/Camera Block - 2000cu in

DAKINE Sequence Backpack w/Camera Block - 2000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2010

This pack is AMAZING.

Its got plenty of pockets and I love how the photo block is removable. There's a top pocket I put all of my filters in for quick access. There's a large front pocket with 3 small dividers inside it and there's another pocket on the front made for goggles. There's two side pockets that zip up easily over 9 OZ water bottles and there's two small pockets on the waist-belt. The camera is located on a zipper at the "back" of the pack - the part closest to your back, so if you fall, its more protected. Plenty of places to put things!

The padding on the shoulder straps and back are incredible. I'm not sure what they're made of, but they feel like Neoprene. Whatever it is, its extremely comfortable and low key. There's 2 different ways to adjust the shoulder straps - from the top or bottom.

This thing is built to carry either my tripod or my snowboard. When carrying the tripod there are two small compartments that zip open reveal two extra straps for holding down my tripod (in addition to the two already visible). One at the top of the pack and one at the bottom. When its time to carry the board, those go away and I can use the two visible straps. When I'm carrying neither, the top straps can snap into each other so I can cinch down my pack and keep it compact.

I only have one complaint: The photo block didnt' come with enough dividers for me to customize it enough for me. I'm contacted Dakine to get some more, but they claim that they don't sell any extra dividers. I'm going to buy some different ones of Amazon.com soon.

Seirus Xtreme All Weather Glove

Seirus Xtreme All Weather Glove

Rating for this product: 3 January 24, 2010

I bought these gloves with one purpose in mind: Winter Photography. They're much thicker than I anticipated but they're still thin enough to give me moderate control over my SLR. These bad boys are actually warmer and more waterproof than my (old) Dakine snowboarding gloves which pleasantly surprised me a lot. I can see myself taking these boarding on non powder days. They're great for driving too. They immediately warm up after you put them on and they have grip on the thumb and pointer finger (and palm) so you have good control when driving in the cold.Overall: Very well built glove, and while not perfect for what I intended to use them for, they have proven to be extremely versatile and useful for much more.

The perfect coat!

Stoic Bombshell Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 17, 2010

I love my bombshell. I've had it for a couple of weeks now. I have the black/lime and I get compliments all the time on the look. The sizing is very athletic, so I upgraded to an XL and it fits me like a charm (L is my usual size), granted its still tight on the gut, but I won't need to layer much with it. I've worn this standing still in temperatures in the 20's and have been warm. The jacket is pretty light and thin, but provides good warmth. So far I've been warm with it in Utah weather.

The jacket is well thought out and very visually pleasing. The inside is the same green as the zippers and I've even been complimented on the sewing on the inside. The powder skirt is removable by zipper and is covered by a flap so you don't feel the cold zipper. The pit zips are mesh backed, and they're big. You can tighten up the waist from inside the pockets.

Great jacket, but has its quirks

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Bombshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 30, 2009

Bought this jacket. Its incredible. well built, the welded seams are great. Its really light. The mix of blue zippers on the black is AWESOME. Within seconds of it arriving I already had compliments on its looks.

However, it garnished 3 stars mainly because of the fit. I wear Large normally so I bought a large. it fits around the chest, but the arms are really long on me. And down in the stomach area its extremely tight. I'm not exactly mr big (though I'm no stick either) and I have to suck in and make sure my shirt doesn't get caught in the zipper. A shell should not fit like that in my opinion. I could make due, but I wont' be able to wear anything more than a tee under it.

Some random points: the hood is not removable, though it is fully adjustable. Its HUGE by the way, and fits a helmet great. There is a really soft material around the chin that when you zip it up all the way you just go "ahhh" to the way it feels (its extremely comfortable and smooth/soft). The powder skirt is removable by zipper. The liner is a mostly gray with some black (on the black/blue color at least). the pockets are mesh lined and can double as venting. A great idea, but I worry about the practical use. You can adjust the powder skirt from within the pockets with is a handy feature.

Sole Ed Viesturs Signature Edition Footbed - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

I have really bad feet and I cannot wear shoes without these footbeds. They're simply amazing. I've worn them in every shoe I own for the last 3 years. Sole make a great product. They're very durable and usually outlast the shoe they're in. I stumbled upon them when I was at a new physical therapist complaining about my foot problems (again). She said here, take these. I've never looked back.

These are heat mold-able - basically they are custom soles that fit your foot. You warm up your over, pop them in, and then put them in your shoe and stand still for ~30 seconds to set them. They set you to your natural arc so they are not uncomfortable.

I've had these shoes since spring of 2009 (~9 months). They've been through the Wasatch mountains, the Unitas, Southern Utah, Norther Colorado, Crater Lake area, Redwoods, Tetons, Sawtooth, and various deserts with these boots. They've with stood it all. I've put a good amount of mileage under these boots and they're incredible. They have kept my feet dry and comfortable. There is little signs of wear and tear on them. They should be good for a few more seasons.

There is one thing they don' hold up well against: snow. I took these up the canyon earlier to photograph after a snowfall. While they held up for a while, after about 2-3 hours out there in snow, they started to get wet and my feet started to get cold. When I got home, i stuffed them with newspaper, and within a day they were dry and ready for action again. I know they weren't made for snow, but I had to try them out.

Overall: perfect shoe, except in snow. Totally worth the money.

I have wide feet and they fit great. I wear a size 10.5 normally but I have an 11.5 of these shoes and they fit like a charm

This tee rocks. Soft, slimmer fitting, organic coton, retro, and most importantly shows off my BC love
