Great ski

Dynafit Se7en Summits Touring Ski

Dynafit Se7en Summits Touring Ski

Rating for this product: 5 May 8, 2012

Not a deep powder ski. It is a ski-mountaineering ski and a superb spring-summer-fall ski. Stiff compared to most wimpy AT skis. Holds an edge. Turns easily. Easily skied with a TLT5 Mountain or Zero boot or other lighter weight AT boots. Not meant for backcountry wannabees trying their AT stuff out on high speed groomers.

Dynafit Low Tech Lite Alpine Touring Binding

August 2, 2011

Does this binding suffer from the same problem with the race binding: no flat heel position for the TLT5, always have to be in a raised heel position? My main interest in this binding stems from snow buildup in the heel cup of the vertical st while I'm on nordic ski patrol, breaking trail. The snow builds up on the heel ledge of the binding and is kept in place by the curved heel cup. Ski patrol is a lot of flat, medium climbs, and medium downs, much like ski touring. So, what't the verdict--will I be able to have the heel flat/boot level, will snow build up be less? Thanks!

Dynafit Manaslu Ski

Dynafit Manaslu Ski

Rating for this product: 5 July 2, 2011

I'm 225 lbs and I put over 70 days in the backcountry on 187 Manaslus this season using TLT5 Mountains, Zzero 3s, and Zzero 4s in everything from deep light powder, to heavy powder, packed powder, sastrugi, breakable crust, heavy wet snow, and corn snow. Short turns, long turns, slow turns, fast turns, no worry; up and out of all the deep snow with no fuss. A very easy ski to ski, very forgiving and very powerful for its weight. A great all-around ski, but now on ice, frozen snow, and corn I use my 178 Seven Summits, which are only a pound lighter but roll so easy from edge to edge on firm snow and are so quick to make very tight turns on firm snow.

I've been skiing my 178 cm 7 summits (I'm 225 lbs) this spring and summer with both Zzero 4s and TLT5s--so easy, so quick edge to edge, and so dependable; very nice skis on firm snow even for a big guy; but for me, they dive in deep, light powder, so I bought Manaslus for that.

Black Diamond Tracer Helmet

Black Diamond Tracer Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 June 22, 2011

Very light weight, very well ventilated, very cool even with 1,051 watts/m2 bearing down from the sun and off the snow in the bowl; nicely adjustable; very comfortable; better than any ventilated cap I have. Only downside: it would be nice to have a thicker absorbent band in the front to keep sweat from running down into my eyes.
