Smith Maze Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2011

If you do a lot of skiing/snowboarding, you should wear a helmet. If you do a lot of hiking to get to where you'll ride, this helmet will shave weight off your kit and give you more energy for more runs. There's nothing worse then a heavy clunky helmet on the ride down- You can hardly tell this thing is on your head!

Wear a helmet, and tell your buddies to wear helmets too, so we can all have fun and shred powder safely in the future!

Voile Split Kit (DIY)

October 27, 2011

I have been splitting the Rossi experience for 4 years now. Its a great board to cut in half, i've never had any issues with the core of the board. Just be sure to use a good marine epoxy like West Systems G-flex epoxy and put 2-4 thin coats on the fresh cut sidewall. Sand those a bit and you're ready to mount the chinese hooks and beyond...

The newer Rossi Experience has a foam type strip down the center of the cut, which is kind of a bummer, where as those older models have straight wood. Still, the new "foam" sidewalls coated in G-flex have held up fine with everyday use.

Outdoor Research Maestro Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2011

This puffy traps your body heat like a greenhouse. Blazing hot! Whip it out of your pack at chilly times and feel the warmth instantly. Nothing stores body heat better then lofty down, and when your stationary, every bit of warmth helps.

I got this jacket mainly for winter splitboard camping. So i love the stash/pillow pocket- 2 birds with 1 stone! I also live in a super old house in which we rarely run the heating, but really there is no need for heating if you own a Maestro Down! This thing provides insane warmth... the Snowboarders crampon!

Petzl Vasak 12-Point Mountaineering Crampon

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2011

The flexlock Petzl Vasak's are the best fitting crampons i have found for snowboard boots. I've had problems with both blackdiamond contact strap/neve strap crampons as they don't come up the back of the boot high enough. Making for risky situations when your crampon slips off mid climb! Not an option! The strap system on these petzl's accommodate snowboard boots much better in my opinion. The back part of the strap comes up the boot about 4.5" which makes for a really solid hold.

These things strap down so snug and tight- Snowboarders in need of crampons, look no further!

Avalung installed on a Dakine Pack

Black Diamond AvaLung II

Rating for this product: 5 September 16, 2010

The Avalung is a great invention. You can install this model into pretty much any backpack that has a hydration sleeve type of pocket. All it takes is a little macgyvering and some thought. I got some extra tubing at homedepot similar to what the avalung is made out of to make the exhaust come out at the bottom right of the pack. Works great, though i don't intend to use it at all costs! Its best to not get in avalanches.

I am stoked on this backpack, fits every thing i ever need to carry and some! If you like to go on lonnng tours when you know you need extra food water and clothing, this is the pack for you. I have gone on overnighters with this pack, stowing all my camping gear and riding gear comfortably. Many great attachment points for random gear, and it holds a snowboard/skis so well. My average load is 20lbs in this pack and it carries it with ease, cinching down nice and snug. Even with heavier loads it seems to do great, and when you have no gear to haul the pack compresses down to the size of any resort size pack... GREAT BACKPACK!!!

Smith Maze Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 April 13, 2010

This helmet is amazing. So light, yet super protective. I have never been a fan of wearing helmets for some reason, but this winter i decided enough is enough. I was trippin' when i wore this helmet for the first time because i could not feel it on my head. It fits so well with smith goggles, and any other brand for that matter. In conjunction with smith gogg's there is virtually no goggle gap! such a snug fit that doesn't shake around, like most other helmet setups i have tried. I am so pleased with this helmet, i will always wear one from here on out! ....Its not "if" you're gonna crash but "when". So gear up and protect your dome!

Black Diamond Trail Trekking Pole

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

Cant say enough about trekking poles and their importance to a proper hike... Trekking poles are leg savers!
-I prefer these poles over the BD Expedition poles, and any other company's poles for a few reasons. They have a better grip for traversing slopes. They are 3 ounces lighter! And the bottom piece of the pole stays locked in place, the expeditions have a bit of play when on the pack. If you ever plan to get a BD Whippet pole, you can use the 2 lower sections from this pole to make a 3-Piece whippet pole... All you have to do is cut the top section of the whippet down about 4 to 5 inches, cut notch and install flicklock, and slide these baby's in! These poles are sick!

Yeah on this pole the bottom piece will slide around with 2inches of play, kind of annoying if you have them on you're pack a lot... I used these poles for a few seasons till i bent one of them somehow. Instead of these I got a set of BD Trail trekking poles last winter and they have none of this bottom piece sliding around. They are not a ski pole but the flicklocks are 4-season rated. They are also 3 ounces lighter than the expedition pole, and have a choice grip. These poles are in the "Hiking & camping" section under trekking poles

From my experience with the camera block, you need at least an inch or 2 of extra room in you're pack for the camera block to slide in and fit nicely. Having back access is Key as well... This makes for a super easy ride in many ways. It's contact points are in between you're feet and it pivots on a dime. The reverse camber makes it float effortlessly in powder and chop snow. For my riding style, I think this board is much too flexy and has too much reverse camber to make it a "hard charging" big mountain board... But for some one who like's to "play" in the powder and park it is perfect.

DAKINE Camera Block - 800cu in

November 6, 2009

There's no way the block will fit in a 20L pack... 30L is the minimum i would say, anything smaller is much to tight. It really depends on how deep the backpack is. The Block is 11x15 by 5inches deep so the pack has to be at least 7 inches deep for it to fit good. Try the Dakine Chute pack (36L), i have a feeling that one will fit the camera block very nicely as it has lots of room and it's 9 inches deep, with Back access which is KEY for the block...

Our bomb-proof camera home

DAKINE Sequence Backpack w/Camera Block - 2000cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 6, 2009

I have taken many harsh digger's on to my back, while wearing this pack with lots of camera gear inside. It has always held up strong and our camera gear comes out intact! Killer pockets and space for essential backcountry equipment, food, and whatever else the day calls for... The back access and camera block are the greatest things to happen to snowboard/ski photography! No more fussing with pack straps and digging for you're camera. This setup is legit! Great pack to switch between buddies on runs to make sure everybody gets a photo experience to remember. Pictures are worth 1000 words, or more!

Gravitationally great!

The North Face Gravitation Triclimate Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 6, 2009

This is an awesome jacket for any type of snow-sport. I used mine all last winter and it is still in tip top shape! It fits great, its very water proof, and it is nice and warm. The under arm zip's are ideal for venting while hiking and high perspiration activities. Lots of good storage in the pockets, and i LOVE the goggle pocket on the inside... A must have if you hike often!

Excellent snowboard...

Rossignol One Mag Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 November 5, 2009

This is an epic board, one of the best in the rossi line up in my opinion. After riding with magne-traction i don't think i'll be going back to a straight edge. The Magne edge give you incredible hold on ice and hard packed snow, and when you're riding back-country you'll be happy to have it when you hit some variable snow. This would be the 1 board i would choose for everything. Park, powder, pipe, groomers, ect.

Keep rover afloat...

Ruffwear Portage Float Coat Dog Lifejacket

Rating for this product: 5 October 21, 2009

Our family dog is an Italian mastiff, a very heavy boy... We were a bit worried what we would do with him when we got into floating rivers. He was never a water dog, but when we got this life-vest for him he found a new love! Once he realized that he could not sink, he was in the water all day! He is now a great swimmer! When he gets bucked off the boat in the rapid's i have the peace of mind knowing that he will always float!! Great product...

Leg saver's!

Black Diamond Expedition Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 5 October 20, 2009

These poles great for split-boarding. They are light weight yet strong, and super collapsable which is key if you are carrying them on you're back. I love to use them in the summer for heavy backpacking as well. Mine have held up great for the last 3 seasons...

Killer package for beginners and experts alike

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness Package

Black Diamond Momentum AL Harness Package

Rating for this product: 5 October 5, 2009

I got the momentum package when i started climbing 3 years ago. The harness is a solid design, and i see no reason to upgrade even after 3 summers of mild use. The new version here is even better then the one i have. Perfect for someone who wants to get into climbing, highly recommend it!
