Arc'teryx Atom LT Hooded Insulated Jacket - Men's

January 19, 2011

How much warmer is the Atom SV than this one? Looking for a light packable (but as warm as possible) backup piece to take out on unplanned stops (gear breakage, emergency ...).

Also have to add that LT has much nicer colours, but got the Atom MX already and it's probably not so much warmer?

Arc'teryx Accelero Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Accelero Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 13, 2010

Great, super light material, good moisture management (moisture from the inside). Works well below 0°C / 30F as long as you are on the move producing heat (jacket does not really warm due to thin fabric).

Size runs big, for comparison, I (6'1" 170ish) got an Atom MX which is trim/snug fit, Gamma MX which is probably "athletic" fit and the Accelero, which is considerably bigger (all in size medium). The longer, hip length, cut is very nice, but it's also very roomy around the torso, so I had like 3cm stitched off from pits to waist on both sides to make it fit similar to the Gamma MX.

Small pockets would be nice too if you were to use it for hiking, trail running or other multi-hour/outdoorsy activities.

Arc'teryx Accelero Jacket - Men's

October 1, 2010

Does this fit more tightly, like the Atom MX, or more loosely, like the Gamma MX? I tried both and would like to go for a really snug fit, for trail running.

I normally have arcteryx size M and it fits me perfectly, but if it was cut like the Gamma MX I'd consider size S.

Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Backpack - 4210-4576cu in

September 28, 2010

I haven't used the Naos, but it seems to have a slimmer profile and no side access zipper (which makes it even more waterproof, some say submersible). The Arrakis is a bit more versatile as it has plenty of gear attachment loops.

Black Diamond Agent Avalung Winter Pack - 1098-1220cu in

May 3, 2010

This is certainly a nice "freeride"ish pack (more robust, heavier). As already stated this pack takes a lot for a 20 liter pack, and it still carries well when you stuff it and additionally put skis on.

If you're looking into a lightweight rando-race/trailrunning alternative, Deuter, Dynafit, CAMP and the likes have nice alternatives. Just don't try carrying your 100mm+ skis. They are not built for that.

That's only the brands I've been using, though.

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Insulation Pant - Men's

April 28, 2010

Looking for a backup/emergency layer to carry when ski mountaineering. Looks like these would top the Rab Photon Insulated Pant. Could anyone who tried both weigh in? Thanks.

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

April 15, 2010

Mr. mcatt has a point of course. If you can, get similar gear as the chaps you're going to tour with. If they're into freeriding with 110mm+ waisted skis and stuff you won't have much fun in a rando racer outfit, and vice versa.

Norrøna Lyngen Softsthell Pant - Men's

I'd like to get them too for ski mountaineerign in spring. They look low waist from the pics above, so probably not the best for deep days.

Black Diamond Zealot Ski

April 14, 2010

Mostly reiterating what's been said above. Especially when getting into touring don't make your life hard by starting on heavy gear.

Unless you're into hucking cliffs (of maybe a really big, hard skiing guy), get a Dynafit binding. And maybe a cheek-height ski. 95mm waist is being considered as a good alround width by many people, unless you're in super deep snow climate.

looks very much like there are.

Norrøna Trollveggen Dri3 Climbing Bib - Men's

April 14, 2010

I'm using them for skiing (AT), they are great material, vent zips, awesome piece of technical gear.

The only thing they don't have are snow gaiters, would be awesome for bootpacking in the deep.

Arc'teryx Tau Fleece Jacket - Men's

January 4, 2010

Can anyone compare this to the Zeta jacket?

I already have an older Gamma MX hoody and am looking for a trim fitting breathable alternative for aerobic activity like trail running in winter and cycling in spring.

(Having endurance sports type build, 6'1" 170lbs, usually arc's M fits. The more trim fit the better so it works better for road cycling too)

Thanks
