Perfect for freezing cold days

Pearl Izumi Barrier Lobster Glove

Pearl Izumi Barrier Lobster Glove

Rating for this product: 5 December 21, 2010

Just wore these out for ~ 1 1/2 hour ride in ~32 degree weather with a slight breeze. My hands had a slight chill at first, but once I started riding, they were toasty and warm. I had stop for a minute to check something and my hands got cold again, but after I got back on the bike I was comfortable. I'm completely happy with them. It was cold enough that I had fleece-lined neoprene boot covers and wool socks on my feet, but my hands were much warmer than my feet. That says something about these gloves. My guess is that I can wear these down to the high teens, and up to around 40. For reference, I always have cold hands.

Great jacket / vest - but not great for heavy rains

Pearl Izumi Vagabond Jacket - Men's

Pearl Izumi Vagabond Jacket - Men's

I'd like to echo what the other here have said. It's not a rubber/pvc-coated fabric so it doesn't keep you totally dry in the rain. I don't think any rain actually gets through, but what happens is the fabric gets wet and forms a soggy second skin on your body. I also have a Cannondale Morphis jacket, which is very similar, only the Morphis jacket is rubber coated. The difference is the Morphis shell, when dry, does not breathe at all. Therefore, if I'm going out riding with a chance of showers, I'd take the Vagabond jacket. It's more comfortable in dry weather, and will get you back alive if a shower comes out. However, if heavy rains are predicted, the Morphis shell (or another rubber/pvc coated jacket) is probably going to keep you more comfortable.

All this said, I still love the jacket. You just have to understand it's strengths (lightweight/breathable) also comes with downsides (less than optimal performance in heavy rain).

Oh, and one nice thing about this jacket is the fact that in vest form it has very nice "seals" around the arm holes. It does a great job of keeping the wind off your chest.

What temperature range is this jacket good for? Is this a winter jacket, or a fall/spring jacket?
