Solid Commuter for a Good Price

Kona Paddy Wagon Bike

Kona Paddy Wagon Bike

Rating for this product: 5 January 9, 2012

Bought this bike off of btown for a good enough price (to impulsively buy a commuter bike when I didn't need one). I just moved to a flat city, and since I bought this bike, I rarely take out my car to get around town. The bike is really nice to ride around, with the frame providing enough damping for standard road hazards/ruts/gravel, etc., at least compared to my integrated seat carbon road bike. The components might not be 100% top notch, but everything on here currently works well enough and gets me around town. Aesthetically the bike is very pleasing, though all black is not for everyone I suppose (matte would be more ideal for keeping bike thieves' eyes off). I've had it in fixed mode a few times and while it is quite exciting, I'm going to wait until I get over a leg injury before I fly over my handlebars trying to avoid cars at intersections while relearning how to ride. Also, current price is a better than I paid, with the free shipping.

For the price, not bad

Orage Lenny Softshell Jacket - Men's

Orage Lenny Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 11, 2011

Bought this softshell in medium-blue of sac for a great deal. In my mind, it's more of just a windproof/waterproof hoodie, as I don't think it would perform as a well as a top notch softshell in terms of breathability and flexibility, not that I expected this for the price. The sleeves are long, but fit me well (6'4" height, 36" arms in shirts, 160lb alien species). I plan on using it around town, biking in nasty weather, and maybe skiing on warmer days. No elastic or velcro closures on the wrists, and stitching doesn't seem as good on mine as the other review I suppose, but for the price, it should work.

Super Light Shell

Stoic Stash Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 23, 2011

So I must admit, I bought this on impulse from sac. I was looking for a winter shell to go over a synthetic insulated jacket, and this poppped up. The breathability is quite good (have only had it out in one humid rain session without any claminess issues), and the shell is quite light. I'm not sure how this jacket will hold up in the long run, but for a lightweight rain shell, or ski jacket with enough layers underneath, it's worth what I paid. All the seams seem fine, though they are done in non-traditional patterns (fine with me), and there is also a subtle pattern of grid-like appearance (probably just of the fibers). The drawstring is pretty thin, so I'll have to watch that I don't pull that too hard, the fabric is pretty thin (ie light weight, but also maybe not the best for winter) and there are only a few pockets, which generally will suffice, but yeah, wanted to get this review up so there was more than only 2 stars for someone not liking the color. I'm 6'4", 165lbs and I bought a L (as mentioned below). I also tried the medium and it was definitely too small for me, both in length and in the shoulder/armpit area, though the sleeves were only slightly short on me (still long for a medium).

Stoic Stash Shell - Men's

September 20, 2011

I'm 6'4, 165lbs, with a 6'7 ish span. I bought the large in this jacket, and while it is ever so roomy compared to my ideal size in the torso, the fit is relatively trim. Medium might have been better if I was only wearing the jacket by itself, but for a fleece and a layer underneath, large is probably better. The sleeves are definitely long (not sure who the target demographic is if they are long on me ha)

So far so good on the sizing front

Mountain Hardwear Zonal Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 14, 2011

I'm 6'4" and 165 lbs, and purchased the L. Overall, I think this might be a great replacement for a fleece to cut down on necessary layering (as you can tell by my weight, don't have much natural insualtion). The fit is fairly athletic, but not so much that a microfleece and an undershirt wouldn't fit underneath comfortably. The arm length is generous, and the torso length is not too long that it will stick out below a shell.

In terms of looks, it looks like a shiny black insulating layer, but still not unreasonable, and I personally think the shiny black material looks alright.

Though I've only tried it on during the summer (just bought it), I can attest that it is fairly warm, and I'm excited to replace my fleece for ski use this winter. I'll update when the weather is colder

Easton Circuit Clincher Wheelset

February 24, 2011

Just as a side note, it looks like Easton no longer makes Campagnolo freehub bodies for the Circuit anymore, and this wheelset has the shimano body. I've looked around a bit for another source, but it doesn't look very promising.

Decent Jacket, larger than I thought though

Solstice Hi-Fi Hybrid 3L Shell - Men's

Solstice Hi-Fi Hybrid 3L Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 20, 2010

To start, I want to say that I ended up returning this jacket. I was looking for an athletic cut hardshell that would fit my semi-alien frame (6'4", 165lbs) for skiing. Saw this on sac and figured I'd give it a try, even though I've never heard of the brand.

Overall, the fit and finish of the jacket seem decent, with a cool yet nonchalant design in black with 2 different types of fabric on the back, etc. The quality of the seems was definitely good, but my biggest gripe was that in size L, the jacket was way too roomy for me. The sleeve volume was way too big, as was the body. I probably should have ordered a medium to be honest.
