These bindings are bombproof

Union Force Snowboard Binding

Union Force Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 5 November 13, 2009

These Union Forces are an amazing pair of bindings. They're made extremely durably with Dupont Zytel , magnesium ratches, and an extruded aluminum heelcup. They're a mid-flexing binding and are extremely versatile. Quite responsive and they're really my go-to all-mountain binding. I don't get pressure points with the straps and the binding is very adjustable (forward lean, heelcup, highback rotation, toe-ramp, etc). The one small thing is that if you want to use the front strap as a toe cap, you have to make sure you position it correctly, otherwise it may slip up and "become" a traditional toe strap.

Good entry-level boot

Burton Moto Snowboard Boot - Men's - 08/09

Burton Moto Snowboard Boot - Men's - 08/09

Rating for this product: 3 November 13, 2009

The Burton Moto is an entry level boot designed for the beginning rider. The first thing I should say about these boots is that they pack out fairly quickly; after about 8 days on the slopes, they were about a half size larger. By 10 days on the slopes, I was getting a bit of heel lift. The speedzone lacing is fast, but since this boot uses the speedzone express where there's only one pull cord, I found it somewhat difficult to adequately tighten the lower zone independently from the upper zone. I also found I had to tighten these boots after every few runs because the cord catch would loosen. These boots are very flexible which is good for a beginner or the park-rat. Unlike other reviewers, I found these boots very comfortable. There's only a single speedzone lacing pull on this boot, so you get a little bit less ability to control the tightening on different parts of the book. If you're a beginner, but you're relatively sure you'll be riding quite a bit, I would actually recommend spending a few more dollars to get a slightly higher end boot. These will work for the budget conscious rider though.

Okay pants

Burton Cargo Pant - Men's - 09/10

Burton Cargo Pant - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 3 November 12, 2009

These pants are okay. They're fairly loose fitting, but not super baggy and there's two cargo pockets, two side pockets, two back pockets, and thigh vents. The inside has a mesh lining, and the side pockets are fleecy so they keep your hands warm if you're waiting outside. The shell material/coating is decently waterproof, but if you're sitting in slushy snow for most of the day or if it's raining, you'll probably get a little damp. Otherwise, it'll keep you dry on days when it's not extremely wet. There's even a little slit in one of the pockets to let your headphone cable come out from the layer below. One word of warning: I usually wear size 32 street pants, and I purchased these pants in medium because the listed size range was 32-34, but I would say the waist is much larger than expected. If you're on the border between two sizes, get the smaller size.

The North Face N.F.Z. 25 Backpack - 1700cu in

The North Face N.F.Z. 25 Backpack - 1700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2009

This is an absolutely awesome pack for the backcountry enthusiast. It's deceptively compact, but holds a ton of gear. It's got a snowboard carrying system which allows you to carry your board either vertically or horizontally. I've used it both ways, and I personally prefer the vertical carrying system. It also lets you carry skis diagonally which I've used once or twice. It also has the ability to carry a hydration system such that the tube passes through the insulated shoulder strap which helps prevent freezing. I haven't actually used the fold-down back panel for sitting in the snow, but it's kind of a neat feature. There are two main pockets which are huge and carry a ton of stuff and one smaller fleece lined pocket I use for goggles or media players. The one very minor downside is that most of the storage is in huge compartments rather than multiple smaller compartments, which makes finding small items in your pack harder when you're on the go. But this pack has served me well and is built very nicely.

Huge goggles

VonZipper Feenom Goggle w/ Bonus Lens

VonZipper Feenom Goggle w/ Bonus Lens

Rating for this product: 4 November 12, 2009

The Von Zipper Feenoms are one big pair of goggles. They've got a ton of peripheral vision and are quite comfy. They haven't fogged on me and keep my face fairly warm. The extra lens they came with is nice as well. I definitely like the option of buying additional lenses for various conditions. Also, I wear glasses, and although these aren't OTG goggles per se, they work very well over my glasses and are quite easy to slip on and off. So the biggest issue for me with these goggles is the nose gap I have. I know other people with fairly low nose bridges haven't had problems with them, but I still have a small gap when I'm wearing them properly. I can sag the goggles down a bit to close the nose gap, but then they're not quite as comfy. This is a small issue, but may be important for some people. Also, my helmet is fairly large, and when getting the goggle strap over the back of the helmet and loosening it completely, it's still just a little snug. Not uncomfortable, but snug.

Awesome boot

Burton Ruler Snowboard Boot - Men's - 09/10

Burton Ruler Snowboard Boot - Men's - 09/10

Rating for this product: 5 November 12, 2009

I absolutely love this boot. It's one of the stiffer Burton boots and I largely ride all-mountain with less freestyle so these are perfect for me. It's very comfortable, very warm, and well-made all around. I believe the newer models of these boots (09' and on) are made so that the outside dimensions are one size smaller (without affecting the inside dimensions) than the previous years models. This makes the boots fairly compact and light, easy to walk in, and easy to fit into most bindings. I've found the speedzone lacing (with upper and lower zones) to be very fast and extremely easy although not quite as customizable in terms of different zonal tightening as traditional laces. The Imprint 2 liner is also well made and has molded to my feet well after about 2 days on the snow with fairly minimal packing after about 20 days on the snow. I bought a 1/2 size smaller than I normally wear to get the correct fit, but take this with a grain of salt since everyone's feet are different. Definitely try out these boots, but personally I've been very happy with them.
