Reef Fanning Flip Flop - Men's

Reef Fanning Flip Flop - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2010

While on the heavy side, these things are redicuously comfortable. Thick, wide strap keeps the tops of your feet happy, surprised to find a decent amount of arch support after putting them on, airbags on your feet make every step more comfortable. They mold to the foot quick, making long, late night, inebriated treks to taco bell the day after buying them a breeze.
Haven't tried the bottle opener yet, but it warms my heart to know it's there.

Scarpa Apex GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2010

It took me a while to get comfortable in these things (wide footed guys stay away!) but once I managed to break them in they were worn to work and around town daily. Solid, low profile, gore-tex insert keeps the rain and snow at bay, understated styling was much appreciated.

Black Diamond Bandit AvaLung Package

Black Diamond Bandit AvaLung Package

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2010

Great package for those starting out venturing past the boundary ropes or looking for the perfect package when speed and weight count. The probe is damn near idiot-proof and the deploy-3, while on the small side is well designed and durable. The pack is small (skins, granola bar, midlayer) but holds its own with skis loaded on for a hike.
I've since upgraded to the Covert, but still keep the bandit close by for quick trips.

Marker Duke 16 Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 August 30, 2010

Don't look at them as AT bindings that tour like crap, look at them like Alpine bindings that tour when you need them to. Mounted on my daily drivers, the dukes do weigh down the set up and give me an unnatural stride when skinning. This is worth it when I want bombproof clamps on the ride down.

Black Diamond Kingpin Glove

Rating for this product: 4 February 8, 2010

Granted my hands don't get hold unless it's single digits out there, but I use these gloves almost every day. Whether I'm shoveling my driveway, walking the dog, or skinning up the wasatch backcountry, the kingpins perform admirably.
I took Chris' advice below and waterproofed the hell out of them and they feel bomber now.

The Hot Shot is my day-to-day work bag. Granted I'm not the desk-jockey type, but my laptop, work documents, kleen kanteen and post-work trail runners all happily call the hot shot home. I also find myself grabbing it more often than not for mild to moderate day hikes.

Rossignol SAS2 150 Wide Ski Binding

August 10, 2009

Would someone mind laying out the primary differences in performance and feel between the Axial 2's and the SAS's? I've been loyal to the Axial 2 140's for a while, and I'm curious about the SAS counterpart. I understand the SAS's don't have any lifters so you're closer to ground with less weight for jibbing, and that they're lighter while sacrificing some of the bomber durability of the axial2s.

Rossignol Axial2 120 Pro Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 August 10, 2009

There's a reason I only roll with rossi and look bindings - I never have to worry about them. I have these mounted on my mid-fats, and the 150's mounted on the big boys of the quiver and I've never dealt with pre-release issues. The only times I've ejected from these were when it was real necessary.

Ortovox M2 Avalanche Beacon

Ortovox M2 Avalanche Beacon

Rating for this product: 5 August 6, 2009

Why do so many people complain that beacons arent redicuously easy to use? If youre in the backcountry, its your responsibility to learn how to operate your equipment correctly, big deal if that actually includes reading the manual and running some drills. I picked up the M2 last season after having the BCA DTS and couldn't be happier. Spent a little time learning how to use it and it performed admirably during the season.
Its accurate, comfortable thanks to the contoured fit (not as bulky and slightly lighter than the tracker), has a fast response time and is better than expected with multiple burials. Great range, and the hybrid feature's a plus. My only issue is with the on/off switch on the back, which can be a hassle with or without gloves.
I've converted to the germans when it comes to beacons, maybe you should too.

DAKINE Edge Tuner Tool

DAKINE Edge Tuner Tool

Rating for this product: 3 August 6, 2009

Great little tool if you need a quick tune in a pinch. Durability has been an issue with me for many of dakine's products, and this one is no different. Holds up to light use, but shouldn't hold a center spot on your shop bench. True, if you don't have a great eye, this tool does make things easier than a plain file, but there are other products on the market that will serve you better.

Skullcandy Ink'd Bud Headphones

Skullcandy Ink'd Bud Headphones

Rating for this product: 4 June 24, 2009

Yeah, I was shocked, but it is in fact possible. The sound quality is above average for buds, clearly moreso than the standard ipod ones. The play loud and do a decent job blocking out outside noise. Best part? Maxing out at 20 bucks, you can afford to rock a number of them if they get lost/destroyed/stolen.
However, they do NOT have in-line volume control, which wouldn't have bothered me so much if they were upfront about it on the site. Also, as another reviewer mentioned, the buds do sometimes have a tendency to fall out if your hat isn't pulled down over them, especially trail running or skiing without a helmet.

Rating for this product: 4 June 24, 2009

As if that matters to any of you ladies, but she loved it. Noticed that she wasn't sporting the goat on her gear, so I sought to remedy that problem. I ordered the small for her and after throwing it in the wash, the organic cotton shrank down to normal size and fit her perfect (form fitting, but in no way tight. Makes her top half even more flattering, soft organic cotton, and she's now showing the goat some love. You should be doing the same.

DIAD and gone to heaven

The North Face Stretch Diad Jacket - Men's

The North Face Stretch Diad Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 24, 2009

After owning last years model and loving it, I just bought another one for my brother. This is my go to jacket for late spring through mid fall. It packs down to nothing so it can be easily stowed in any pack, arguably handles rainstorms better than gore-tex and my green one was vibrant and eye-catching. Obviously it's not intended as a lightweight replacement for winter jackets, it's for rain. No reason to believe durability will become an issue as I'm abusive to all my gear (this jacket has been AT skiing, backpacking, and mountain biking), and the DIAD holds up.

The North Face Stretch Diad Jacket - Men's

June 24, 2009

Flimsy? Umm...No. The jacket is designed to be super light weight and waterproof - both of which it succeeds in doing. I have a "flimsy" older model and love it and just bought my brother a new model. I throw it in a backpack everytime I head out, packs down to nothing, and as one other reviewer put it the Hyvent DT is strikingly competitive with gore-tex. I've used it AT and alpine skiing, backpacking, and around town - never a problem, never a tear. You may want to consider taking better care of your gear or contacting TNF for a warranty issue.

Smith Phenom Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 June 24, 2009

These things have sick optics, (I use the evolve sensor and wall street ignitor lense-goggle combos) fit my medium sized face perfectly, and look quite dope in the lift lines. My vision is clear, distortion-free, and comfortable as all hell. Only problem is that swapping out lenses can be a pain in the ass, and I'm considering springing for the IO's, but I don't think I could turn my back on the phenoms.

Viva La Bombaclot!

Nordica Jah Love Alpine Ski

Nordica Jah Love Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 June 24, 2009

A. Yes I'm Aware what Bombaclot means, However I have no idea what hitting a bombaclot drop is supposed to mean.
B. I could be wrong, but I think my spelling is the correct form.
C. These are NOT twin tips, the product writer has obviously never first-hand seen a pair.

Issues aside, as the product description says, you really do snap into the irie bliss of a 140mm underfoot. These ultra-fatties are meant for one purpose - bottomless powder days in the front and side country. Considering the size, they're full of pop and surprisingly nimble. You will find yourself in nirvana in an open powder bowl after a huge dump with the jahs. Long tours in the BC aren't much of an option as these boys are heavy (I have no idea how someone could think mounting these with dukes wouldn't make an absurdly heavy package.)

The important thing to realize is this is not an all mountain ski. This should be a niche model within your ski quiver mucho grande powder. Keep 'em in the deep, and it'll be easy skanking for all.

Nordica Jah Love Alpine Ski

June 24, 2009

Walk into a store, and hold a plank in your hands and ask yourself if they're too big. If you can only find them online, take a ruler and mark off the tip, tail, and waist. As jay said, these things are water skis for snow, intended for bottomless powder days far, far away from the east coast. I loved mine but only took them out 4-5 times last year because they fill a very narrow niche.

The North Face Fire Road Boa Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Fire Road Boa Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 June 24, 2009

The shoes seemed like a great deal, however as someone else mentioned the shoes are clearly running small, even for north face standards, I however chose not to go running with a pair of shoes that were uncomfortably small. They are also very, very ugly shoes equipped with the gimmicky boa system that as others have said, feels like it's going to break on a regular basis.
problems aside, they are comfortable (aside from the short length) and are quite light, however I think I'll be sending these back for a pair of rucky chuckys.

SmartWool Adrenaline Light Mini Sock

Rating for this product: 4 May 28, 2009

Wicked comfortable high performance socks get rid of the sweat and the blisters. Great cushioning in the right areas and they're plenty light for summer trail running. Just as adept for wearing in the office as they are on a single track.
It may sound shallow, but I don't know who was talking about these things being head turners. Out of the adrenaline series, these are definately the ugliest. Beige, seriously? Definately look dorky pairing these with my salomon XA comps while wearing shorts.
Aesthetics aside, viva la smartwool

Rating for this product: 4 May 25, 2009

As the other reviewer said, it runs on the large side, especially considering the photograph above. I dont really understand the vertically challenged collar on this either, but that's where my complaints stop. Its comfortable and capable of withstanding late night debauchery on the mexican coast this winter. Performed well as my midlayer piece for touring this spring as well.

Great polo shirt for any casual warm weather situation. The light & breathable fabric keeps sweating in check and oakley's standard baggy cut (which you may or may not be a fan of) keeps the shirt flowing and off your skin. Worth $90+? Doubt it, but for $25 it's worth snagging

Well they fit well and the soft cotton works against the skin - more than adequate as casual shorts. However if you're looking for a dependable trail short, be a big spender and order something more rugged.
Perfect for a bar night in a ski town with a pair of smoothy's and a cotton tee, not so great for scrambling up a mountain.

Just picked up a pair of the chocolates after wearing my previous pair into the ground. From memorial day to labor day if I wasn't on a trail or at work, these things were on my feet. Mountain Khakis Teton Twill Pants - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2009

At the risk of sounding slightly redundant here, I'll never have to wear another pair of pants. Bombproof construction so they work on the trail, but a more upscale look than the utility pant so you can easily transition into the office. $70 + for a pair of pants is tough to justify, but I plan on picking up a pair every time I see them on sale. The waist isn't too small, I've always worn a 32, and I wear a 32 in these pants - they just sit higher up on the waist than your average pair of gap khakis.

Almost the Perfect Trail Runner

Salomon XA Comp 3 GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 21, 2009

I have been wearing XA Comp GTX's for the past 4 years now. They're awesome shoes, wicked comfortable, look great, and highly effective in a wide range of elements.
However, I typically go through a pair a year. I use them for daily use and light hiking, and just about every pair started to fall apart at the 12 month mark. The outer fabric starts to tear along the outer toes, the heel comes unglued, and the pull cord on last years models snapped at 14 months.

Let me state that I am in not overly abusive in my wearing - trail running 4 days a week, daily use in work and around town.

I have the black-autobahn's this time around and after 6 months they're still hanging in there. As someone else noted, the yellow along the heel has chipped off and looks pretty lame, but that's just cosmetic. The shoes themselves are holding really well for the time being.

I am in love with Salomon footwear, just wish these badboys would hold up a bit better in the long run.
