DAKINE Heli Pro DLX 20L Backpack -1200cu in

December 17, 2010

This pack is more of a lifestyle board pack, not a core user pack. If you want to stabilize the board more, then you could unthread the buckle, thread it through the bottom of the buckle used for compression, and then put the buckle back on. the threading will provide a channel for the web to go through, and eliminate any kind of josteling side to side. you might want to look at an osprey, BD, or backcountry access if you are worried about load carrying abilities. Dakine makes a great lifestyle pack, but not as good of a core user product.

should be warm enough, but dont forget to bring layers. An extra sweater and some additional mid layers will let you layer up to the temperature or down, depending on the weather. this jacket is a good start.

Elan 1010 ALU Alpine Ski

December 17, 2010

The boomerangs are a twin tip, and thusly have a softer tail to accomodate a mount farther forward than a normal all mountain ski. the reason why you are wheelying is because you are too far back on the ski. furthrmore, the narrower "powder" style tail further accentuates this action. these skis are altogether stiffer and should handle a "normal" mount as opposed to a twin tip style mount that would slide the bindings towards the nose of the ski.

Voile Mini TelePro Shovel T6

December 16, 2010

Good solid construction, I am sure it performs well. I prefer the "T" handle because I wear an XL mitten and find the "D" handles sometimes too small for un-inhibited shoveling. Nevertheless, Voile has a great reputation, and this shovel should fit easily in a pack.

Armada JJ Ski

choose the JJ or CRJ. they will offer variety in your quiver and the ability to change up the skis depending on the conditions. nothing like replacing an old set of skis with something that is exactly the same. these will give something to ride in the upper elevations at the resort.

Light and Compressable

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Pneumo LTW Drybag

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Pneumo LTW Drybag

Rating for this product: 4 May 1, 2009

These bags are great, and they are coming in other colors now too. I have been using them on my UL hiking trips, and they are a great way to compress and keep dry. I have totally moved away from other stuff sacks, because hte valve keeps the contents compressed, and the fabric is still very light. Great for organizing in side you pack on longer trips. HAVE YOU SEEN THE BACKPACKING LIGHT Backpacks using these bags?? I wonder how well they work in that application?

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Ether Thermo 6 Sleeping Pad - Women's

March 25, 2009

BackpackTracker I understand some of what you are saying relative to a difference in comfort between the two styles, but they should be relatively the same because when you put the two side by side, they are almost the same pad. On the note of being cold when sleeping, well there is a lot more going on then the temperature in your tent. In order to create the same circumstances is hard and more than a single test is necessary. The simple difference between sleeping with or with out a hat can feel like a 15 degree difference in temperatures. The entire sleep system needs to be looked at; pad tent and bag yes, but also, how much you ate before sleeping, hat or no hat, how hard did you work that day, hot water bottle?, and the clothes that you where while sleeping. All of those things apply. The pad only provides comfort and padding from sleeping on the ground and insulation from the grounds temperature. There might be some other areas of the sleep system that you need to analyze before chalking it up to the pad.

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Hull Bag

March 25, 2009

The bag is made of 100% waterproof fabric and when sat in the hull of the boat, zipper side up, I have not experienced leakage. I have even secured it to the top of my boat once, and it shed all of the water that splashed up. I know that it is not a waterproof zipper, but for the price, it works great and is pretty close to being waterproof. I rolled the kayak, and did not experience any leakage, but Pacific does not recommend submarining this bag.

Pacific Outdoor Equipment All Out Lite Sleeping Pad

March 25, 2009

R-Value is a misnomer when it comes to attesting to a sleeping pads warmth. I believe that it is a three season sleeping pad, so, if the snow sticks to the ground, the ground is cold enough for a 4 season pad. Also, R-value is a measurement that comes from the building industry, and has created a false sense of security. It is your sleep system that you should look at; ie, pad, bag, tent or tarp or none, what you ate before you sleep, hat or not hat, hot water bottle or not, etc. Nevertheless, I saw once that one of the pads they made in the past had an R-Value of 2 to 3.5.

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Expedition Dry Duffel Bag

March 25, 2009

There is a zipper under the roll top that can be locked between the Zipper pulls. The external zipper cannot be locked. However, if you are worried about stuff getting stolen, I would be more worried about the thief having a knife. If I was a thief and saw a lock, I would think that there would be some great stuff in that bag because someone took the time to lock it.

Laken Prisma Bottle w/Screw Top - 1L

Rating for this product: 5 March 13, 2009

This bottle is great for my backpack trips, fits easy in my pockets on my pack and does not roll away when I set it down! It's a liter, but seems smaller because of the rounded edges and stout design. Pretty tough too!

My Wife's Good Nights Rest

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Hyper Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's

Pacific Outdoor Equipment Hyper Lite Sleeping Pad - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 13, 2009

Last year, my wife and I traveled to Joshua tree and enjoyed a great trip climbing and sleeping under the stars. On my last night, we bedded down after dark, and I work up half way through the night with a popped pad. The foam on the bottom of my wife's pad kept hers protected. Pretty sweet idea, she was happy that she had the hyper pad.

Laken Classic Bottle - 0.6L

March 11, 2009

Unfortunately, you're stuck with the lids from Laken. If you want a better bottle, try Camelbak's Better Bottle (amazing name, seriously) or Podium Bottle. They're both fantastic bottles, and also BPA free:http://www.backcountry.com/store/CAM0269/CamelBak-Better-Bottle-w-Bite-Valve-75L.htmlhttp://www.backcountry.com/store/CAM0262/CamelBak-Podium-Bottle-24oz.html--------------------Laken makes a flip top cap that may be easier. I would not recommend a plastic bottle. YUCK!

Laken Classic Bottle - 0.6L

March 11, 2009

Are you dead yet?-----Umm... Sorry, Filo. I think Michael's in a bad mood tonight. If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't right. I would exchange it. If the new one is the same, you'll know that you were safe all along. And if you still don't like it, just return it all together. You have to have a water bottle that you like drinking out of.------The threads are not painted, but an food grade, non-toxic ABS plastic. I would consider sending it in, but it is probably fine. Maybe give Laken a call of send them an email.

Laken ISO Bottle

March 11, 2009

The inside is not polyethelene, it is lined with a BPA Free Poly Aramide lining that has been third party tested, according to the Laken USA website. I like it because it does not hold taste. It might sweat a little because the foam that lines between the two layers of aluminum is not as thermally efficient as a vacuum, but I have never seen a vacuum double wall aluminum bottle.

YES, Laken bottles are BPA Free. This lining is a Poly Aramide and not an Phenolic Epoxy. They lined their bottles in the past with the same kind of flexible epoxy that Sigg does now, but have changed to an entirely BPA Free coating. Check out the website at LAKENUSA.COM.
