Great Fit!

prAna Convertible Pant - Women's

November 5, 2009

All day spring hiking in Zion. These were perfect through the hot sun and the still snowy spots. I thought this non action photo would be helpful to show how great the fit is.

Mammut Belay sling Polyamid Sewn Runner - 19mm

June 21, 2011

Mammut the same item in blue which I wrote a review for before but I now can't find it. If you're looking for directions on how to use it I know there is similar questions and discussions on the reviews for it. I own the blue one and though it took some getting used to, I love it as a personal anchor and for raps. It's almost always attached to me with a locker on the end. I girth hitch it through my harness where my belay loop passes through, not to my actual belay loop.

Runs really small

Outdoor Research Flex-Tex Gaiter

Outdoor Research Flex-Tex Gaiter

Rating for this product: 3 June 26, 2010

The design on these seemed ok but I got the S/M and they were way too small. I have the winter veriglass gaiters in this size from the same company but these summer ones run smaller. I have totally average calves not skinny or big and wear a size 8 shoe. These were snug on my angles in bare feet with no socks. With any shoes or pants on at all the velcro wouldn't even meet. I'm just going to stick with my veriglass winter gaiters since I'm not a trail runner but was looking for some poison oak and sticker protection.

prAna Peaceful Satchel Bag - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 15, 2010

This is a great bag. The strap is long. I'm 5'7" and the bag hangs down by my knees. There's no way to adjust but it would look cute with a knot tied in it. I got this the same time I bought a mini laptop and it fits perfectly inside. Not really padded but I carry the computer around in it to the library and work still. The interior pocket it pretty large with it's own zipper on the top so I can keep my keys and whatever else seperate. I really love the look and the size of it. I'm an across the torso purse person all the way.

My indoor climbing pants

prAna Asana Yoga Knicker - Women's

prAna Asana Yoga Knicker - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 15, 2010

I love these. They are my go to pants for climbing in the gym. They stay up under my harness and afterwards if I'm working out. They are fitted but not spandex looking fit, and not too baggy either. I'm 5'7" with long legs and they hit me right at my knee making them somewhere between capri length and bermuda shorts. If you're the type to wear knit fabric pants climbing outside they'd be perfect, but I usually go for something more substantial since I tend to hit my knees on the rock a lot. Plus they're PrAna so they're cute.

I so wish these had fit better

prAna Bliss Knicker - Women's

prAna Bliss Knicker - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 10, 2010

I love Prana and I loved these shorts but the fitting was just a little funky. I'm 5'7" and normaly a size 8 in Prana but these are sized S,M,L I tried the M and they were ultra saggy baggy. I liked that they were just pull on with no buttons or zippers but unter the weight of a harness with gear I wanted them a little tighter. The S fit better but suddenly the legs were fitted all the way to my knees. If only they fit me like they did the girl in the photo. The fabric was nice and would have been perfect for climbing. Lots of give and stretch but still resistant to wear and tear and protecting your skin.

Cuter neck options than in the pictures

prAna Fiona Pullover Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

prAna Fiona Pullover Top - Long-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 2, 2010

This looks like a turtleneck and you could wear it that way, but I don't. The neck can be unzipped a little and folded over. It folds down with an exaggerated off center look that's pretty trendy now, I've seen it on coats a lot. It's a shame it doesn't show it that way in the picture because it is incredibly cute. I wore my brown one on New Years Eve and got so many compliments. The fabric is not too thick or thin and not to tight or lose. Comfortable yet feminine for sure. Also the tag said it's cotton and milk... that's right milk fibers. I don't get it either but it was a crazy conversation starter on New Years.

These wear in but won't wear out!

La Sportiva Mythos Climbing Shoe - Women's Discontinued Rubber

Rating for this product: 5 November 5, 2009

These are my second pair of climbing shoes. A little more aggressive than my red 5.10s but still comfortable enough to wear for long multipitches all day. They took a little while to wear in but they get better each time I wear them. I tried the mens which felt better on my toes but wouldn't hold my heels in. I know some guys who wear these too. Once in awhile I get some air bubbles in them and they make a suction cup/fart noise when I put them on to the amusement of my climbing partners. They've held up really well with all kinds of climbing from face, sandstone and granite cracks, and gym climbing.

comfortable on my kinda big head

Black Diamond Half Dome Helmet

Rating for this product: 4 November 5, 2009

This was the helmet I used when learning to climb. When I had to get my own I tried a bunch of the more pricy ones but always came back to this. My head was always right on the edge of being too big for small helmets but too small for a large size helmet, or maybe I just didn't want to admit my head is a size large. This one size fits all was really comfortable. I find myself trying to scratch my head then realizing I have a helmet on, I forget about it that much. I got white to avoid the oh so common blue. Backcountry was the only place I could find it in white. The only issue I have is that my brother says it makes my head look even bigger, like giant bald skull, but he didn't see me in those other ones. So far it's protected me from lots of falling ropes and bashing my own head into overhangs as I go up.

Favorite with the bottoms on or off

prAna Convertible Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 November 5, 2009

These are my favorite climbing pants! My knees are always getting thrashed and these protect them better than shorts. The fabric is better than my cotton roll up climbing pants, I don't sweat through the butt as easy on my approach hikes. They are easy to zip on and off. They stay put under my harness. Plenty of give for long reaches with my legs. I've done tons of climbs in them when it's hot or cold and always been comfortable. The only signs of wear they show after numerous climbing trips is spilled bacon greese from camp. I have them in two colors and they are AMAZINGLY flattering. They turn my whitty pancake butt into a genuine booty! Gray is by far my favorite.
Update: Still loving these. I wore them for 3 days strait in Joshua Tree and when it was too cold to zip off the bottoms I was able to just peg them and they stayed put for multi pitches. When my partner's pants got so dirty in camp he couldn't wear them, he wore these for the second 3 days of the trip and would you believe they looked just as good on him as they did on me. After 6 days they still showed no wear.

One of my favorite things

Reef Contour Smoothy Sandal - Men's

Reef Contour Smoothy Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 9, 2009

I have had a love affair with these sandals going on 9 years now. Almost every summer I buy a new pair of the exact same ones and wear them out completely in a few months. Not that they wear out fast, I just do everything in them including walking all over Europe, Argentina, Vegas, or a few miles on the trail even. They mold to your foot and are incredibly comfortable and easy on the knees and feet. They will wear off into your skin and turn your feet black and they do get really slippery in the rain but who cares. My old ones I still wear for gardening or painting the house. I can't find the smoothies in women's anymore so I buy mens. I wear an 8-8.5 and the size 7 is perfect. So here's to another year and another pair of fabulous reefs.

A welcome and easy to use piece

Mammut Belay Sling - 19mm - DO NOT USE

Mammut Belay Sling - 19mm - DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 June 9, 2009

Once you figure out how to use this, it's so simple and easy and it's everything built into one. I'd been using thin runners to clip in the anchors during hanging belays for multipitches and as much as I trust those things for everything else and know they're amazing, my mind would always look at them and think they looked like old shoelaces. Then there was the rearranging of gear or hands to rappel or belay…etc. This seems like it lets you do all those things on one piece and minimizes the unclipping or tying or whatever you have to do. One less thing for me to remember to do or double check is welcome. Plus it has the added bonus of seeing a big sturdy blue thing holding me on when I cleaned the anchors for the first time and untied myself from the rope. Piece of mind when climbing goes a long way.

Outdoor Research Essence Duo T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Outdoor Research Essence Duo T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 9, 2009

I wasn't expecting a lot from this. I've been trying out different wool t-shirts that I could wear for a few days on climbing or camping trips without getting cold, hot, or stinky. (alright maybe I was expecting a lot) I ordered some smartwool, ibex, and other wool tops and ended up only keeping this one. It is amazing and I love it. It's days before it smells like a poly shirt, it fits flattering, not tight or bulky, not itchy, and keeps its shape really well. I've washed it a few times and it still looks new. I get compliments on it all the time. The v-neck is really high. More like a v shaped crew neck. I've never felt hot or cold in it and I've worn it in all kinds of temps and activities. I wish they made more colors.

Montane Lite-Speed Jacket - Women's

Montane Lite-Speed Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 9, 2009

I got this jacket for climbing since it's so light and packs down small. After a few climbs when I had a hard time enjoying the view from the top due to a cold wind picking up after I was a few pitches up, I wanted something I could attach to the back of my harness for the top but not get in my way as I went up. I love this thing. I didn't think it ran small. I ordered a Large at first but exchanged it for Medium and it fit great, (I'm normally an 8). It's easy to stuff in the sack but doesn't come out looking wrinkled and gross. It's about the size of a softball. The chest pocket is really roomy. The hood packs away really easy. It's incredibly light and breaths well. I wore it around the block in a light rain and it kept me dry too. Not sure about a heavy rain, but it zips up snug and has elastic wrists. I'm pretty broad shouldered and square shaped and it makes me look feminine...but that might just be the purple color. So far I love it.

My favorite climbing pants

prAna Amber Pant - Women's

prAna Amber Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 22, 2009

I bought a bunch of climbing pants awhile back and I've ended up using these almost exclusively. I liked them ones so much I got them in 2 colors. I'd get them in more if they had them. They fit loose but the knees and the roll up bottoms are great for climbing. I've taken them on every trip so far this season. They aren't too stiff or thick that they ever interfere but they're thick enough to give my knees a little protection from the rock and keep me warm when the wind kicks in all with the peace of mind that they're organic cotton…and really soft. I've crawled into my sleeping bag in them a few times too tired to take them off and not cared. They also don't show harness sweat lines like some of my other climbing pants do. I wish they were an inch longer on the inseam which means I don't dry them in the drier in case they shrink. They have a drawstring which I sometimes get mixed up with my ropes and often untie on accident, but no worries there's two backup buttons on the inside.

Fantastic Blue Shoes

Patagonia Footwear Huckleberry Approach Shoe - Women's

Patagonia Footwear Huckleberry Approach Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 11, 2009

I was at the backcountry warehouse returning some stuff and decided that at this price I just had to try on these approach shoes...even if they were a funny color. I normally wear an 8.5 and once in awhile an 8. The 8.5 felt like it fit but it was a little long in the toe and the 8 was perfect. They have really full insoles, in fact it feels like there are insole inserts in them, you feel kind of tall when you put them on. They're pretty stiff, but shockingly do not hurt a bit and I've had problems with shoes cutting into the bottom of my ankles a lot. I tried the finns which were more cushy, but at 55$ how could I resist these shoes...these...blue shoes. And they don't make your feet look big...just blue.

Five Ten Coyote Lace-Up Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Coyote Lace-Up Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 March 11, 2009

I got these as my first pair of climbing shoes. I tried on a lot and these were snug without any pressure points but at the same time they were touching my feet and toes everywhere like socks. I've been climbing now in them for about a month at 3 times a week mostly indoors and a couple times outdoors. They were amazing outside! As they stretch you can just lace them up tighter so they're great. I think they're more comfortable than a lot of other climbing shoes and I may get some more hard core ones later this summer. I don't have to pull my heals out till after about 2 hours of climbing in the gym. They do make your feet very very red for a long time though...and then your feet turn your socks red after so be aware of that. We laughed so hard the first time I took them off and saw my tye-die feet.

Rating for this product: 5 February 20, 2009

I got this top as a baselayer for snowshoeing but on warmer days I end up just wearing it alone. It's great! Not too tight or loose and looks good. I think it's my only baselayer I'd consider just wearing as a top and I get all kinds of compliments on it. The patern is so fun!
