DAKINE Bike Bag

DAKINE Bike Bag

Rating for this product: 5 June 14, 2010

After years of traveling to events, races, and Whistler with my bike in a cardboard box, I finally bucked up and got one of these. It cannot be beat! It is super easy to pack, has wheels, a ton of handles and easily fits any of my bikes. On my slopestyle bike I just let the air out of the fork and I dont have to remove it which is nice since I run the front brake through the steerer. The bag comes with a center divider to separate the wheels and frame, tool and parts compartments.

This thing is durable during travel, protects well and gives you plenty of room to pack your pads, clothes, and camera tripod for trips. I am just kicking myself that I waited so long to get it.

Sombrio JT Stripe Bike Jersey - 3/4-Sleeve - Men's

Sombrio JT Stripe Bike Jersey - 3/4-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

When I first opened this jersey, I was a bit nervous that each of the stripes was a separate piece of fabric. I thought that movement would cause those areas of stitching to be uncomfortable, but once on, I didnt even notice them. This jersey looks great in photos and is nice and light. It wicks sweat away and the 3/4 sleeves fit well with or without pads on. Highly recommended

Sombrio Carve Bike Jersey - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

Gone out on a few fall weather rides and this jersey is great. It is light and comfy. Its not overly baggy like some jerseys, but still fits over pads. I have not yet worn it on a warm day, but is seems to wick away unwanted moisture. At half price, this jersey is a no brainer, definitely looking into a second one

Nice shorts

Sombrio NFluence Mountain Bike Short - Men's

Sombrio NFluence Mountain Bike Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 17, 2009

I got the chocolate color. These are not quite as soft as the Wildcards which are my favorite shorts, but the fit on these is similar. The over the knee is nice for DH days which fits easily over knee pads like my 661 Kyle Straits and are fine if you have a bit of pedalling. These are soft yet really tough. The shorts are super light as well. Keep in mind there is no chamois, so if you need one, just throw on a pair of cycling shorts under these. The fit is pretty good.

At 50% off, these are nearly impossible to beat, a great pair of shorts for the bold as the colors are exactly that, BOLD! I cant wait to get these out for some more abuse and "testing" :)

Without a doubt, best shorts ever

Sombrio Wildcard Mountain Bike Short - Men's

Sombrio Wildcard Mountain Bike Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 3, 2009

I absolutely love these shorts! They are soft and comfortable, but durable! These look great when out on the trail, but do not look out of place at the bar after the ride. These are a freeriders dream. They are a bit long but I like that as it covers most of your knee pads. The front zips help keep things cool when you are actually out pedaling in these. The soft fabric allows you to comfortably pedal all day in them. Make sure to have a pair of chamois shorts if you do as with all Sombrio shorts, these is no liner to these.

My only complaint about these shorts is that they are only available in one color as I would have a few more pairs if other colors were offered, but looking at the 2010 version on Sombrio's site, it looks like a new color for next year. These shorts are super comfy, light weight, durable, pretty inexpensive, and cool looking on or off the trail. I bought these at full retail and I was stoked, I will be ordering another pair soon now that they are on sale.

Five Ten Karver Shoe - Women's

Five Ten Karver Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 28, 2009

Clipless were freaking her out but didnt like the skate shoes she had. 5.10 finally made a shoe in her size and she has been loving these. She rides XC on them and rallies DH with me in them. The soles are sticky enough to hike in and stiff enough to not make your foot hurt after a long day. She likes the stiff soles and the ability to drop a foot in a tech section, but they are really sticky. She really likes the fit and color. The ankle protector on the inside part of the shoe has been really well received as she tends to rub her ankle bone on her crank arm. Now, just the shoe does, so its an improvement for her and hurts her less. A full season and another one at least will be going on these shoes. I am on my 3rd pair of 5.10 and love all of mine.

Sombrio Misfit Jacket - Men's

Sombrio Misfit Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 22, 2009

Sombrio puts together a great jacket. They pay close attention to the details, the cuffs are nice, the feel of the jacket is nice, the weight is quality. The removable hood is a nice touch and the hood is big enough to go over a helmet. I am not sure if its a misprint on here or incorrect info from Sombrio, but the jacket does NOT have underarm zips. I am looking for a fall riding jacket that is waterproof but vents well and needed underarm zips, which this does not have. I received one, was told it was defective, another was sent and no zips under it either. These guys took great care of me, but still the time and inconvenience of having to run it back to UPS twice was a bummer.Keep in mind that these fit a size smaller, I wear a large in Sombrio jerseys and in almost everyone elses jackets, I wear a medium in sombrio jackets

Planet Bike Shockmate Hi/Lo Pressure Suspension Pump

Rating for this product: 2 October 21, 2009

This pump feels pretty cheap and durability isnt great. The stock pump that comes with all Fox air forks runs MUCH better, lasts longer, and is more accurate. I havent had great luck with mine. The bleeder valve on mine gets stuck frequently and feels cheap. The pump as a whole leaves a lot to be desired for $35 plus shipping

DAKINE Chop Shop Bike Jersey - 3/4 Sleeve - Men's

DAKINE Chop Shop Bike Jersey - 3/4 Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 21, 2009

This jersey is a loose fitting jersey. The cut is generous and the look isnt over the top like some jerseys seem to be these days. I wear a large in it, just like all jerseys I wear. It fits well with pads, is constructed of a nice material, is soft, and extremely durable. It is a bit on the warm side, but not overly hot thanks to the 3/4 sleeve. I wear this on cool morning rides, fall rides, and for long trail rides when layers are nice. No pockets, so bring your camelback. I definitely recommend this for trail riders and DHers alike.

Fox Racing Shox 32 F100 RLC FIT

Fox Racing Shox 32 F100 RLC FIT

Rating for this product: 5 October 16, 2009

I ran this fork on my 4x bike for a while, but found it a little on the flexy side (lateral stiffness). But in its proper application (xc riding) the fork is great. It is extremely light weight and highly tunable. The Fit cartridge has not had any problems. I cant really feel a difference in this versus an open bath as far as plushness or feel, but the fork feels great. Fox has put this cartridge into all of its forks and has been extremely reliable for my 36s. Fox has one of the best suspension feels on the market and this F100 is no different. Great feel, highly adjustable and tunable. This fork is great!

Shimano Saint SL-M810 Shift Lever - Right

Shimano Saint SL-M810 Shift Lever - Right

Rating for this product: 5 October 10, 2009

"Shimano has wised up and now offers a single rear Saint SL-M810 Shift Lever for gravity riders who don’t run a front derailleur. " This hits the nail on the head. Most of us who run Saint, do not run a front derailleur. it was nice buying a shifter for once and not having a front shifter that I could never sell. The feel of the shifter is much stiffer and more mechanical than the XTR. The XTR feels great, but is too easy to over shift on the DH bike. This shifter has a solid feel to it and matches up well to the stiff sprung rear derailleur. Its also very nice that you can run it inboard of the brake lever and is adjustable for the mount of the clamp to the bar and clamp to the shifter. It is an extremely nice feeling shifter and matches the rest of the Saint kit very nicely. The dual direction shifter is nice as you can shift both ways with just your thumb so you can shift while braking

SRAM PC 1 Chain - Single Speed

Rating for this product: 2 October 9, 2009

This chain is a cheap basic singlespeed chain. It has worked for me in the past as an emergency chain (brand new bike and the chain I want is on back order or in transit), but not a daily chain. I use a half-link as my daily chain. I broke quite a few links on this chain and as a previous reviewer mentioned, it stretches quite a bit too.

Shimano XTR FC-M970 Hollowtech II Crankset

Shimano XTR FC-M970 Hollowtech II Crankset

Rating for this product: 5 October 8, 2009

These cranks are second to none. They are stiff, light, shift great, and are aesthetically pleasing to say the least. I have a pair on my trail bike and on my slalom bike. While the chainrings are pricey to replace, they seem to last, and last, and last. Fit and finish is super nice. They are easy to install and have a lot of adjustment to them which is surprising as most cranks dont really have adjustment aside from BB shell. These are awesome. They are easy to set up, easy to remove to clean, and durable.

If a 6th bonus star were ever available for a part, the XTR cranks would get it

Shimano XT BL-M775 Hydraulic Disc Brakes Pre-bled & Assembled

Rating for this product: 5 October 8, 2009

From the moment I installed these brakes, I was hooked on the Servo Wave levers. I ended up riding these on my DH bike for a while until my Saints showed up. They worked great. These are now on my slalom bike and doing tough duty with little rotors. The lever feel is second to none, aside from other Shimanos that share the same lever. They are super adjustable without tools and come out of the box pre-bled. These are a great brake. There is a reason the XT line has been around for 25 year plus.

Thule Sidearm Bike Mount

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2009

From my BMX, to road, to DH, this rack holds it and holds it still even at 100MPH. This is the best bike rack for your roof PERIOD! Its fool proof, easy to use, sturdy, and tough. It lasts forever it seems, and doesnt let the bike sway in the wind. This thing assembled super quick and bolted to the roof rack super quick. It is lockable with lockcores easily installed. It would still be easy to steal, but it will slow down a thief. This thing is top notch! Do yourself a favor and get a few. I have 2 currently and working to get a third one on my roof backwards.

These are a DH specific brake for sure! I had to run a 6 inch rear rotor to not just immediately lock the brake up. The modulation is ok, but not amazing. The power took a little bit of time to get used to. After getting tossed over the front when the front just locked up a few times, I finally got used to them. I rode them for two seasons and they did the job but needed new bleeds and pads relatively frequently compared to my old Hayes or my new Saints.

Troy Lee Designs D2 Carbon Helmet

September 29, 2009

The helmet is certainly lighter weight and great for lighter applications. I use mine for dirt jumping and slopestyle riding. I have a TLD moto helmet for DH riding. I think the heavier duty helmets are worth the extra weight when surrounded by trees going at the higher speeds found with DH riding and racing.

The lighter weight helmet is definitely nice for hotter days and doesnt get you as tired because you have less on your head. Protection is pretty good too. I would not say the regular D2 offers significantly more protection

Five Ten Impact 2 High Shoes DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 September 29, 2009

This is my 3rd pair of 5.10 Impacts, I have had the low tops which lasted forever and now have moved to the high tops. I really like these as they prevent rocks kicking up and hitting your ankle bones and provide a bit more support and protection than the low tops.

I have had these for quite a while and the soles while super grippy actually are really durable. 5.10 provides great customer service and is an awesome company that has been updating their shoes and coming out with new pro models and more options from the regular black. All were warrantied, but these are not even close to as good as the old monkeylites were. I would not recommend these for beyond trail riding. Not recommended for DH. This derailluer has an amazingly stiff spring in it which provides super fast shifts. Seriously, who backs their parts with a 3 year warranty if they do not expect them to last. WTB Prowler MX Downhill Mountain Tire

WTB Prowler MX Downhill Mountain Tire

Rating for this product: 3 September 23, 2009

I rode the tire front and rear on a variety of terrain. The tire is a great freeride tire. Running higher pressure, it was extremely fast rolling through freeride type dirt jumps. The tire tracks pretty well through rough and loose turns we have here in Colorado. The sipping in the side knobs help the tire hook up in corners and hold the line. I did not feel the tire fold or roll off the knobs. I do run higher pressure typically to prevent tires from rolling off the rim in hard cornering applications. I did not have the tire roll on me once. The tire loves hard pack and hard pack with loose over top. Knob penetration was excellent. Tire size was accurate. Compared to a Maxxis 2.35 and 2.5, the WTB was pretty close to the 2.5 Maxxis even on the same rim. Maxxis tires are notoriously narrow for size, so it was refreshing to ride a tire that was on par with what the claimed size was. Braking performance was consistent and predictable. The threshold for the tire breaking loose was also predictable and consistent.

My one complaint with the tire was the casing. It is a bit on the thin side for a DH tire. I think the tire would be a great all mountain tire where speeds are lower and trails less rough. Each of my 4 flats resulted from a square edged hit and a pinch flat even with 45 PSI in the tires. All of the flats were rear. When slowing down as result of the flat, the tire would roll off the rim and due to the 4 flats, the tire would no longer hold the rim properly and tears in the sidewall resulted. The tire was thrown out. I am continuing to run the front tire and it is holding up very well.

The rubber durometer has been great, slow enough to hold, but wears extremely well.

Fox Racing Shox 36 Float 160 RC2 FIT

Fox Racing Shox 36 Float 160 RC2 FIT

Rating for this product: 5 September 23, 2009

I have a few Fox 36's. This fork can be shimmed internally and become the best operating and stiffest lateral fork on the market or be ridden on a freeride bike for big hits or be slapped on your trail bike for 40 milers. The feel is supple and highly adjustable. I would say this is the best feeling fork I have ridden. Fox's customer service isnt great, luckily this fork makes up for it and doesnt need customer service. Simply get it serviced once a year with new seals and oil and it will take another year of abuse

Awesome rack

Thule Transport T2

Thule Transport T2

Rating for this product: 5 September 23, 2009

A monkey could learn to use this rack in 45 seconds. It doesnt sway when going fast, loads in seconds and holds DH bikes, road bikes, bmx bikes, all bikes, all wheel sizes, its great and strong for my heavy DH bike.

This is THE best hitch rack on the market and you can get an additional add on to add two more bikes to the rack.

These shorts rock!

Troy Lee Designs Moto Bike Short - Men's

Troy Lee Designs Moto Bike Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 23, 2009

I get a pair or two of the MOTO shorts every year. I still have my original 4 year pair still going strong. The headline color is sick in person! The shorts are durable and a little on the stiff side, but not rigid or uncomfortably stiff.

The shorts are ideal for DH and freeride. The stiffness does not lend itself to all day pedaling. No liner or Chamois included

Holy Powerful brakes!

Shimano Saint BL-M810 Hydraulic Brake Lever Set

Shimano Saint BL-M810 Hydraulic Brake Lever Set

Rating for this product: 5 September 23, 2009

I have these brakes on my DH and freeride bike. My freeride bike runs smaller rotors with these brakes than I did before. The modulation is great and the power is HUGE! I use one resin and one sintered pad and the feel is great. These brakes have an awesome feel to them. Its a really natural feel when squeezing the brake. These are a huge improvement from the previous lever style.

Shimano XT WH-M776 All-Mountain - Wheelset

Shimano XT WH-M776 All-Mountain - Wheelset

Rating for this product: 5 September 23, 2009

I ran these on my slopestyle bike last year and now they are going strong on my trail bike. Over rotated 3, cased back flip, no matter, the wheels hold strong! They have taken a beating on my trail bike all over Colorado and Utah. These are a great tubeless wheel out of the box. Center lock rotors are the only way to go, easy to install, easy to remove for travel.

Comfy shoes and good to ride in

Five Ten Freerider Shoe - Men's

Five Ten Freerider Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 23, 2009

These are a great looking shoe and not quite as stiff as the Impacts. The downside to the shoes is the outer edge of the shoe, it comes unglued from the remainder of the shoe pretty quickly. 5.10 supports the shoes with a great warranty and will replace the shoes for the problem, but you end up needing a second pair while the first is in for warranty. These are a nice everyday shoe that you can wear to ride or to work.

These are much easier to pull no foot tricks with than the impacts. I like dirt jumping in the freeriders, but not in my Impacts.

The black and white is great looking in person

Stiff and light

Shimano Saint FC-M815-1 Crankset

Shimano Saint FC-M815-1 Crankset

Rating for this product: 5 September 23, 2009

I came to these Saint cranks from the previous design of the Saint Crank. It thought aside from the subtle graphics on the "old" saint, that they were perfect. The newest rendition of the Saint cranks is better. Better graphics, lighter weight, dare i say STIFFER?!

These are super easy to set up on the bike. It is nice that the cranks come without chainrings becuase then you aren't stuck with what comes on it. Also the Torx bolts for the chainring bolts are a nice clean touch. I have these cranks on 3 bikes.
