Mountain Hardwear Epic Jacket - Women's

October 7, 2009

When you have the right gear, you can enjoy weather like this rather than learn from weather like this. Yes, that is a garbage bag skirt (my thruhiker trick).

I've seen Franconia Ridge in the sun; it was nice to see it differently!

Louis Garneau Treelium Helmet

July 8, 2012

Is there a way to hook in a goggle strap on the back? I see a black thing where there would be a good place for one of these but its not clear from the photo weather or not a goggle strap would stay in place.

Sidi Dominator 5 Women's Shoes

Sidi Dominator 5 Women's Shoes

Rating for this product: 5 April 27, 2010

These shoes make my bike an extension of me! I've had other bike shoes that make parts of my feet fall asleep on long rides. I've had bike shoes that let my foot move around inside there (kinda deFEET's the point). Dominator 5 delivers. No numbness, no movement, all efficeincy. I love these MTB shoes so much I got SPDs for my city bike, too. Wearing these makes bringing groceries home twice as easy... and the tread makes it so I can walk around in the store.

Sidis are known to fit a large variety of foot shapes very well. Also, they're Italian, so you can feel sexy on your bike. They're worth every penny.

Burton Power Stretch Liner - Men's

Burton Power Stretch Liner - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 20, 2009

I lived in Vermont for ten years. In that time, I went through soo many gloves that I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur.

There are a lot of 4-way stretch models out there. They're all pretty much good at being a city glove, a driving glove and a liner glove (what it was designed for).

The biggest difference you'll find is the amount of grip each company has put on the palm. This year, DaKine took it a little too far. Pretty much anything you put your hand on will stick to it. (Great for grabs, not so all-purpose, though.)

Black Diamond has one that's a little under-grippy'd. Backcountry.com has one that has no gripy stuff.

Burton's design changes every season, but I haven't seen a year that's designed with poor taste. The pair I bought in 2004 lasted me until 2008 with heavy use, and that's only because I lost one... which made me really sad, because the grip from 2005 looked BIONIC and AWESOME (but not in an over-the-top way).

I'm on backcountry.com so I can buy the pair that'll last me another three or four years (until I loose another one).
