Dad, why is this clip sticking out of my skull?

Red Trace Grom Helmet - Kids'

Red Trace Grom Helmet - Kids'

Rating for this product: 2 January 6, 2011

After receiving this helmet in the mail, i was immediately disappointed. The helmet goggle clip at the back of the helmet clips on at the base of the helmet, right at the base of the wearers skull. My concern is that if my son were to hit his head hard enough, that clip could add to the damage as it intrudes into the helmet--further, as the foam starts to pack out, the clip will rub against the wearers head. I was surprised how unintelligent this design was. Also NOT adjustable. Go with the Smith Hold Jr. which is adjustable and my other son loves.

Mountain Hardwear Banshee SL 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Mountain Hardwear Banshee SL 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

Great great bag. I'm 6'3" 190 and this bag was roomy (enough) and comfortable. The baffle traps the heat well without being in the way and the inside pocket was a thoughtful if not useful. The zippers did not get stuck and haven't gotten stuck--although I am pretty careful anyway. Completely warm sleeping on 2 foam pads on the snow in 15F weather.

Holy Spirit 4, Batman!

Scarpa Spirit 4 Alpine Touring Boot

Scarpa Spirit 4 Alpine Touring Boot

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2009

These boots are the bomb. They are warm comfortable and good for anything. I used to ski in a race boot, so initially they were a little soft, but with the stiffer tongue it only took half a day to get over the novelty and another half a day to fall in love. No more bruised shins, although I did get some nice blisters on my back country trip (note: avoid jacuzzis with open blisters unless you enjoy penecilin).
Otherwise a great boot and in my opinion a great looking one as well.

Dynafit TLT Vertical ST Alpine Touring Binding

Dynafit TLT Vertical ST Alpine Touring Binding

Rating for this product: 1 December 9, 2009

The first problem I had with the Dynafit TLT verticle was finding a shop that could adjust them. After a number of calls to local shops in the East and in Montana where I was headed for a 3 day back country trip I found... no one who worked on Dynafits. The second problem--and this is a personal style issue, is that when I was treking, the rear bindings had a tendancy to rotate back into downhill mode, locking my heel in mid-step as one ski/boot would knock against the binding on the other foot). Annoying with a 40lb pack in deep snow to have to take the ski off, rotate the binding and then put the ski back on. This happened a number of times and got to be a hassle.
While these are the lightest and we are all pretty obsessed with weight, the difference between this and the marker is about a pound per binding. In other words the added weight is much less of a hassle than having a pair of bindings no one can adjust and which keep slipping into different modes.
Finally, skiing at the Resort, these bindings were problematic. At 6'3" and 190 lbs (sans gear) i had trouble staying in these bindings even with the DIN cranked up (to 10--yeah that's as high as they go). I'm a fast crusier and they were AOK for that. Hit any bumps? Fuggedabowdit!
Hey, we all ski differently and while these bindings did not work for me, they certainly could for someone else. I just wanted to share my own experience.

Not recommended.
