Volkl Continues to Rock my Socks

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski

Volkl Katana Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2010

I have last year's Volkl Mantra 177cm for my all mountain/AT ski and love it so much I didn't think I could love a ski any more. Enter stage left: 2010 Volkl Katana. This ski blows my mind. Its intent was to stay in the closet unless 5"+ had fallen. Yesterday at Vail I had the first opportunity for steep/deep and they really excelled. REALLY. When I'd worked 'em (and you have to work them or they will work you) enough for the day and was making my way down the front side, they seemed to carve as well as the ol' Mantras. Can't wait to take them out again.

Stats:
6'2" 178lbs
177 Mantra/183 Katana
Mount on boot center.

Volkl Mantra Alpine Ski

Volkl Mantra Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 26, 2009

It's no surprise that the Mantra is Volkl's #1 selling ski in the market. It really can take you through anything but super hard pack and ice. It has the stiffness and sidecut model of a GS ski, but is wide enough to sail you through blower snow. I'm 6'2" 180lbs and went with a 177cm so that it's quick in the glades. And it still has plenty of lift to keep me above the snow. Put a Baron/Duke binding on and it's PERFECT for touring (though a touch heavy). Pair it with a Katana for big lines and uber deep snow and you will need nothing else in your quiver. Love this ski.

Perfect Jacket

The North Face Sonic Stretch II Jacket - Men's

The North Face Sonic Stretch II Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2009

I've worn this jacket and the Sonic Stretch original as well. It couldn't be better designed for an all around ski/snowboard/snowmobile jacket. It has the perfect number of pockets that are just the size you want them and where you need them to be when you can only take your hands out of your gloves for a moment. It has the essentials like a goggle cloth, pass holder, and iPod pocket. But above an beyond that it's comfortably warm in all conditions. It has the perfect amount of insulation so that with a base layer, it keeps you warm and allows you to cool with standard pit vents. The hood fits easily over my Beori helmet to keep the wind/snow out of my face/neck areas when it's really comin down too. This is an incredible jacket. One complaint is that the Recco could be attached with a stronger thread.
