TNF Apex Bionic Jacket

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Bionic Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 28, 2011

I wear this jacket nearly every day that the temps drop a bit. It is an amazing softshell that keeps the wind off and keeps me warm, but not too hot and sweaty. TNF always has enough pockets in their jackets.

Unfortunately, this jacket does not zip into the waterproof shells like the Mountain Light jacket. My Denali fleece zips into the waterproof shell, but it does not stop the wind nearly as well as this jacket. The Apex bionic jacket is water resistant, though. Now I do not need to wear my Mountain Light shell unless it is raining really hard outside.

Yakima Stick Up Bike Rack

April 8, 2009

I'm not sure, but I would venture to guess, no. I have a Trek 6 Series mountain bike and while there is room for stretching it out, I'm not quite sure it would reach 71". If I were you I would check one out in a store first if possible.

Merrell Outland Mid GTX Boot - Men's

April 8, 2009

Ed,
I'm not sure which branch of the military you are in, but this Merrell boot does not meet the Army's authorized clothing plan. If, by some possibility your unit has authorized it for wear, then go ahead and keep doing the research. Otherwise go ahead and check out the Oakley 8-inch Assault boot in the desert color. Most Army and Air Force (Some Marines) units have authorized that boot for in-country/ deployment wear. I bought the 8-inch boot and I loved it. I am a squad leader in the Infantry, so I know all about the heavy packs, etc. The only downfall is that the inside of the Oakley boot can tear up after a few months of wear. Mine are still fine, but some of my soldiers had issues. I'm not sure what they were doing to them...soldiers can destroy anything if they put their minds to it.

I do not think backcountry.com stocks that particular boot, unfortunately. www.usstandardissue.com sells Oakley products to military at a discounted price with proof of military ID. I would check that out for your deployment needs. Otherwise, buy all of your civilian hiking/fun gear at backcountry.com. You will not find better prices or service anywhere.

Good Luck.

The North Face Box Shot Backpack - 2150cu in

The North Face Box Shot Backpack - 2150cu in

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2009

This bag is used mainly for school and my computer, but I have used it for my weekends in the Army and many other things. I would suggest it as a great bag for anyone wanting to carry a lot of stuff.

It is very comfortable and seems to be well-designed ergonomically.

I'd buy another one if I had the need.
