Size listing is fishy

Magura USA Durin SL MD100SL XC Fork

Magura USA Durin SL MD100SL XC Fork

Rating for this product: 3 October 23, 2011

The size listing shows 100/140mm, suggesting that this fork can be extended to handle 140mm travel.

Be careful - the Durin line from Magura has never handled that much travel and I don't believe they've suddenly changed their lineup that drastically. The company already has a fork with 100 to 140mm travel, but that's the Thor.

I love Magura forks, but if you're looking at that 140mm size listing, buyer beware.

WTB WeirWolf RaceTire

WTB WeirWolf RaceTire

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2011

The WeirWolf Race 2.5 is the most amazing tire I've ever had the pleasure of using. Out of all the mountain bike tires I sampled in the past 20 years, this one is a big injection of confidence on loose, dry, rocky singletrack (In my case, this means Mammoth Mountain and Lower Rock Creek). You can rail corners feeling like a motocross hero all day long without the penalty of dedicated DH tires. Make sure you wear some armor though - these can deceive you into letting your confidence write checks that your talent can't cash! DAMHIK

They roll much better than Nevegals, but still lean to the slow side and are definitely not lightweights in 2.5. For Super-D, all-mountain, and general trail riding you'll be in the sweet spot. If you want to take it down a notch or two in favor of better rolling, try a 2.1 or a WeirWolf LT instead.

Santa Cruz Bicycles Blur LT 2 Frame w/Fox RP23

January 14, 2011

BLT2's have a reputation for being excellent 650b rides. "Purs" on the MTBR forums has been riding one for a couple years now: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=482637

With any 650b conversion, keep in mind that there are a lot of issues involved including : the bike is going to ride higher than normal, your effective gearing will be taller, your brake rotors will be weaker, and you need to worry about issues like cable, FD, and arch and crown rub on your forks.

WTB WeirWolf RaceTire

July 26, 2010

Unless you're running a rear-specific tire, just flip it around on the rear wheel.

The tread on directional tires will have a ramped side and an edged side. The edged side bites better and the ramped side rolls better. The rule of thumb is to have the edged side helping your braking on the front tire, and helping you pedal without slipping on the rear tire.
