Almost the belay jacket I wanted

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Hoody Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

This jacket was almost what I was looking for. That is to say a good, synthetic-fill, belay jacket. My only issue was with the sleeves, which were ridiculously thin. I realize it's billed as a sweater, but it's also a hoody, and the hood is obviously helmet compatible.

I really wanted to like this jacket, but those sleeves. I'd love to say the reason for it is because my forearms are so buff (yeah, right.) Or perhaps that I was unfairly trying to make it a belay jacket that I could have thrown over my another jacket, perhaps even two (soft shell + hard shell.) But even as a layering piece, I couldn't even wear anything under it other than a base layer. It was too snug over just my Gamma AR alone.

What hurts the most is that I think the problem could easily be solved by adding a bit of stretch knit in the sleeves, (Mont Bell does this on a lot of their jackets.) I don't want to discourage anyone from purchasing this jacket, nor take anything aware from the other reviews. I just wanted to make note of this and make a hopefully suggest to the folks at Backcountry.com, which is great company as many know.

Black Diamond Mission 75 Backpack - 4455-4699cu in

April 30, 2011

I had the same problem with my Speed 40 pack. I found a solution that works very, very well. I picked up a pair of Voile Straps and they work perfectly. A pair of the 15" provided a very secure attachment for my Sabretooths.

Backcountry.com even sells them:

The North Face Leonidas Jacket - Men's

April 2, 2011

Would this be more breathable then my Arcteryx Alpha LT? I'm looking for something not as bomber as that shell. More of a summer, alpine piece. I love my Alpha LT, but those Gore-Tex hard shells are only so breathable. This seems like it still might fight off the wind and the rain, and give me a little more breathability.

Awesome board

Rome Artifact Snowboard

Rome Artifact Snowboard

Rating for this product: 5 April 8, 2009

I've been on an Artifact for three years now. It's a fantastic board. I originally bought it because I wanted to have a soft board to learn to ride switch on, while my girlfriend was learning how to snowboard. It accomplished that mission and more, and became my main go-to board. Rome bills it as a freestyle board, but it's really a great all around deck. I mostly freeride in the trees, and it's performance is excellent in those conditions. Highly recommended.
