The North Face Alliance Jacket - Women's

December 4, 2008

I have the Denali fleece and it zips in perfectly. It also has snaps on the wrists that hook into the shell. The only thing that doesn't seem compatible is the Alliance shell has a snap along the collar, and there's no loop on the fleece to hook it in.

The North Face Alliance Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 3, 2008

I just purchased this jacket after looking for a jacket for a while. I was choosing between North Face, Marmot, and LL Bean. I chose this model because I already had a North Face Denali fleece jacket so did not want to spend a lot on a 3-in-1. I wanted a sturdy, warm winter shell but something not heavily insulated so I could wear as a rain/wind jacket in the spring. I want a black jacket with a hood, zip all the way down, and something that falls at the hips not waist.

I got a medium (I am 5'7' 125lbs, usually get a small or medium top and size 4 pant) and my Denali fleece is a small (that fits over a sweater or tighter fitting fleece). I was worried it would be too big but I like the fit. It is a little big across the chest. When I was opening the package it looked wide and at first I thought there was a mistake and I'd received a men's, but it's not so big that I would send it back and get a smaller size. I like the length and the fit through the arms and hips. When you pull on the hood and zip all the way up, it's a little tight in the chin/neck. Not too tight, but tighter than my previous jacket, might be a bit stuffed if I wore a scarf (I don't).

One thing I really like are the cuffs. I don't like jackets that have really tight elastic cuffs. This jacket has a somewhat elastic cuff, but it still slides over my mittens and has a velcro strap for those who do like it tight.

The material is not as "shiny" as I expected but I like that, it looks like a winter coat not a rain coat. The material is heavier and sturdier that I expected, also a plus, definitely wind proof as it was blustery and snowy outside today.

For the price I am happy.
