Black Diamond Justice Ski

November 1, 2011

The 125mm skins should work fine, but if you have the option I would go with the 140 mm skins so you have complete coverage towards the tip. I usually go larger with my skins and then trim down to match the ski profile as closely as possible (leaving a little edge exposed).

Fits well and keeps you dry when you are in a rain storm or manage to spill your beverage. Fits easily in the top of my pack and is small and light enough that you can carry it with you everywhere. Vents well too. It's definitely always with me when hiking or backpacking in the summer

Marmot Aura Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

Marmot Aura Tent: 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 August 30, 2011

I'v been using this tent for about a year now, in all sorts of conditions and I love it. Why? Because it's the bee's F-ing knees that's why. When it rained for 2 days on Vancouver island it kept me dryer than ... oh i don't know something really dry. When it super windy in South Dakota and felt like I was in a wind tunnel for 12 hours it held up just fine. It's light enough to carry backpacking and if you get a compression sack for the tent body, rain fly and footprint it packs fairly small. The tent is really easy to setup once you get the hang of it but I definitely recommend practicing in your backyard first. For sure buy the footprint too, for the extra $30 it will add a lot of life to you're tent and it allows you to set it up without the tent body which can be nice for summer time/ light weight backpacking. The tent has always felt comfortable with two people in it, and with two doors and two vestibules it is easy to get in and out of and offers plenty of space for gear. All in all this is an awesome tent.

F you sunshine, i'm trying to sleep

Therm-a-Rest Prolite Plus Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Prolite Plus Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 August 28, 2011

For a while I was using a Z-lite, which I loved (great pad for the price) but it was finally time to upgrade so I went with a prolite plus in the regular size. I'm 5'8" and the regular is perfect allowing me to keep both my feet and head on the pad. It rolls up fairly small and is definitely small enough and light enough to carry on any overnight or multi-day trip. Sleeping on it is super comfortable and I have never slept better on any other sleeping pad. Even last weekend when I had a rock under my pad (oops) I slept super sound and didn't notice it at all. The pad also insulates very well and I have not felt any cold spots on my back, but I have also not taken it winter camping yet. All in all a great all around pad

Five years old and still going strong

The North Face Heckler Backpack - 2260cu in

Rating for this product: 5 December 12, 2010

I'v had this baby since my sophomore year of high school. Since then its seen seven or eight countries, gone on countless vacations and day hikes, carried my books to school rain or shine 5 days a week and is still holding up remarkably well. Sure two of the buckles are broken, but thats because i accidentally stepped on them 3 years ago. The back panel fabric is a little ripped, but yours would be too if you had to sit on the things i set this pack on. Its had everything from hot wax to beer spilled on it and held everything from cases of beer to laptops to outerwear. Bottom line, i have put this pack through hell over the last 5 years and it has never failed me. If you want a super reliable pack to hold whatever you want look no further. When i eventually retire this pack i will replace it with a another TNF pack.

Rating for this product: 4 October 30, 2010

I'v had these for about 2 winters now in all conditions, and they are durable and hold up well and fit my face nicely. After two seasons of abuse they now have a scratch or two on the lens but that is more due to my negligence than any durability issues. I occasionally have some fogging issues but thats very rare. I prefer the fit of my smith goggles a little better, but make no mistake these are a great pair of goggles. I would definitely consider buying these again.

Patagonia Stretch Element Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Stretch Element Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2010

Got this jacket this summer and brought it to Denmark with me while i study abroad. It was quite possibly the best decision i have ever made because it rains here more or less every 3 days or so.

This jacket sheds water like none other and i feel like i could stand under a waterfall with this thing on and not feel a drop. The jacket is also super breathable and at times i feel more like i'm wearing a soft shell then a hardshell. When it gets hot and toasty inside the jacket it is easy to dump heat do to the large pit zips.

Three zippered pockets, and 2 internal pockets (that just happen to be the perfect size to slip a 40 oz. into) can hold your necessities without going pocket overboard. The hood is super adjustable and works great. I am 5 foot 8, 145 pounds and the medium fits me perfectly. I am super excited to take this out on the hill this winter and pair it up with my Montbell thermawrap parka.

All in all a kick ass jacket and i could not be more stoked. Also i got it in the green color and it is super steezy. The pictures on the website do not do it justice.

You could also probably tell which version you have based on what you paid since the EQ version is about a hundred dollars more expensive. Also since the EQ version features the Marmot membrane which is waterproof you could tell by how your sleeping bag reacts around water.

Can i borrow your walk in freezer to test my new jacket?

MontBell Ultralight Thermawrap Insulation Parka - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2010

My favorite piece of gear from the moment i opened the package. Super light and comes with a stuff sack that allows it to pack down to about the size of a 1L water bottle.I'm 5 foot 8 and about 145 pounds and the medium fit me perfectly. I have been using this jacket as my go to insulating layer while studying abroad in Scandinavia and i have yet to be cold in it, but i'v only had it down around 35 degrees. In order to accurately picture the awesomeness of this jacket imagine the Patagonia nano puff had a child (who was also a jacket) with Mick Jagger, and then this child was lost in the arctic raised by polar bears who taught it to kill seals with its mind. This child, now a full grown man jacket moved down to Antarctica and started killing whales with Japanese whalers while battling angry hippies. Eventually this jacket decided to give up its life of mindless violence in order to seek redemption and keep hippies all over the world warm. And that jacket, my friends, is the mont bell thermawrap.

Update: I have now had this jacket down to negative 10 Fahrenheit. Still kept me warm but I was skiing and active the whole time.

Thule Lock Cylinders

Thule Lock Cylinders

Rating for this product: 4 July 25, 2010

Don't get me wrong, i love when people like my bikes, just not when they like them enough to steal them. Fortunately with Thule lock cylinders i don't have to worry about this. These lock cylinders were a breeze to install on my Thule Eschelon bike rack, and keep my bikes locked safe and sound while i am away from the car. In my opinion these are a necessity to ensure your stuff stays yours. Only four stars though because i think they should be included with the bike rack.

Thule Fairings

Rating for this product: 4 July 25, 2010

I would highly recommend this for any one who has a Thule roof rack. I had my roof rack for two years before i got the fairing and i don't know how i survived without it. It cuts down on noise, saves gas and was super easy to install. Furthermore, i'm pretty sure it almost manages to make my Toyota Yaris look fast. The only reason i didn't give it five stars is because it is a little expensive for what is essentially a large piece of plastic.

Thule Echelon Roof Bike Mount

July 24, 2010

If you have cross bars already on your car you just need to purchase the bike mounts and the lock cylinders( not required but recommended). If you don't have any type of mount on your car you need to buy the fit kit (your vehicle will have a particular fit kit for it), the cross bars and the bike mounts. The fit kit is tailored the to fit your vehicle's roof, lock on to the frame of your car and hold the cross bars. The bike mounts can then be mounted on the cross bars. As i said before i would also recommend getting lock cylinders so you can lock your bikes into you bike mounts. A fairing is also a nice optional piece of equipment to consider as it helps with aerodynamics and looks nice.

Definitely buy the lock cylinders so you do not have to worry about your bikes getting stolen.

Rossignol S5 Jago Ski

Rating for this product: 5 July 24, 2010

These skis are awesome. Super playful, stiff under foot but soft in the tips. My quiver of one. They work fine at crud busting and they dominate the moguls and feel stable all the time. They are pretty quick edge to edge as well.I took them to Silverton CO this year and to wolf creek CO during the 72 inch storm and they ripped the soft snow and powder despite not being rockered or super fat. I mounted them at the 0 mark and it has worked well for me so far. If you want a good all around all mountain ski look no further.

PS. The pictures of them online do not do these skis justice. These skis are a beautiful work of art.

Spyder Patsch Tech Softshell Jacket - Men's

July 24, 2010

Soft shells are often mildly warm, water resistant, extremely breathable jackets. If your looking for a jacket to keep you warm and dry in the middle of a winter storm you will want to use a technical shell (hard shell) with an insulating layer underneath it or an insulated ski jacket as a soft shell will not provide you with the warmth or protection you need. However if you are looking for a jacket to ski in on a sunny spring day soft shells are the way to go as they are very breathable. I personally like to wear my soft shell underneath my technical shell on ski days as an added layer of warmth or as a light jacket when working outside. Hope this helps.

Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Z Lite Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 July 24, 2010

I bought this pad because at the time it was the only pad i could afford. That being said absolutely love it! It is super light weight and is just as comfortable as most of the other pads out there.Since it is made out of foam i can put it through all sorts of abuse (tree branches, campfires, friends, etc.) and not have to worry about punctures or rips. If i want to hang out around the campfire i can fold it up and simply sit on it. When camping in cold weather it adds a great layer of insulation between you and the ground and it works well as an added layer of comfort underneath an inflatable pad. The one downside is that it doesn't fold up as small as the inflatable pads, however what it lacks in compression it makes up for in weight savings. Best 30 dollars i have ever spent on camping gear.

Spyder Patsch Tech Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 20, 2010

Very breathable soft shell. Works very well under a technical shell. Also decently waterproof on its own. It fit perfectly and is perfect in warmth for spring skiing but not quite warm enough to cut it on cold days. I carry it with me almost every where i go and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a good all around soft shell.

Helly Hansen Dakota Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 20, 2010

Pretty good jacket, decent outer shell that works well with layering. I have used it skiing and backpacking both on sunny days and in snowstorms/downpours. Keeps out the moister really well but the jacket is not quite as breathable as i would like. Also note this jacket does not come with underarm zips despite what the website says. The media pocket is small but can accommodate an iPod without a case. Plenty of other pockets for all you needs.
