The North Face Mountain Pant - Men's

The North Face Mountain Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2011

I expected to be impressed with breathability and waterproofing but the toughness is what has surprised me so far.

In just a few days of skiing I've taken a few crashes that surely would have ripped my old pants. A stump to the shin in the woods did nothing. I had to stop short to avoid traffic, causing my uphill ski to jam into the pant (and my leg) without causing any damage.

Great product. I'm 6' 135 lbs and it fits well. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the suspenders but so far they haven't bothered me at all.

Great Jacket

Rab Latok Alpine Jacket - Men's

Rab Latok Alpine Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 25, 2011

I spent months looking around for and researching jackets online and after debating between the Patagonia Stretch Alpine and the Rab I decided on the Rab.

I've been out a few times with it so far, mostly skiing with some backpacking and have been impressed. I'm 6' 135 lbs and the medium fits well with room for layers. I probably could have gotten away with the small.

The hood is excellent, not big enough for a ski helmet but it'll work great for any climbing helmet. I haven't found myself wishing for pit zips yet either. Haven't had any rain yet but it has performed great in wet snow.

Patagonia Stretch Ascent Jacket - Men's

October 15, 2010

I'm 6' and 135lbs. Right now I'm thinking medium for this jacket but is it an "athletic fit" to the point that I'd want to size up to get an insulated layer underneath?

Good Boot

La Sportiva Halite GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

La Sportiva Halite GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 August 10, 2010

I've had these boots for a year and a half now and have given them a good beating in that time. In the summer they breath well and the gore-tex keeps your feet dry no matter how many streams you step in. They're sturdy and offer good support.

My only complaint is that some stitching has started to rip out. So far it hasn't been an issue but we'll see how it develops.

Great Buy

Marmot Earlylight 2-Person Tent w/ Footprint & Gearloft

Rating for this product: 5 August 10, 2010

Since I picked up this tent in May I've used it almost every weekend since in a variety of weather conditions with no disappointments. It's handled moderate wind/rain on the Maine coast, torrential rain and thunderstorms in upstate New York, and plenty of heat. It's easy to set up and I'm always the first done (make sure you put the rain fly on the correct way). The included footprint and gear loft are a huge plus.

My only complaint is that, since it doesn't have a true bathtub floor, in heavy rain dirt bounces up under the rain fly and can get the bottom of the tent wet/dirty.

If you are debating between the one door (limelight) and this two door get the two door. Friends will want to stay in this tent!

La Sportiva Halite GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

La Sportiva Halite GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 22, 2009

Bought these a few months back for hiking. So far I've used them several times in the NH Presidentials and have had no problems. They've done a great job with a fairly heavy pack on Mt Washington in March and kept my feet dry crossing some streams in Franconia Notch in May.

It has not caused any problems for me but make sure you get fitted before ordering because mine are just a bit big.

Great all around

Rossignol Bandit B78 Alpine Ski w/ Axium 120 Binding

Rossignol Bandit B78 Alpine Ski w/ Axium 120 Binding

Rating for this product: 5 February 22, 2009

Got these skis in November for about half price and I haven't taken my pure carving skis out since. I've skied everything the east has to offer and so far I've had no issues. A previously mentioned, the B78s don't float like a pure powder ski but if you can only have one pair of skis this is a great choice.
