New Balance MT10 Minimus Trail Running Shoe - Men's

New Balance MT10 Minimus Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 25, 2011

What sold me on these was that they were designed to be able to be worn sock-less. In my eyes, these are about as minimal as I like to go on trails. They are incredibly light, nimble, and flexible with the only cushion being the vibram sole and the fabric on the inside sole. I did notice that the band on the forefoot was a little snug but that seems to have stretched a bit over time. These are great on trails but I've even run 20 milers on the road in these and not experienced any major issues (provided you are okay with minimal running). If you want a little more cushion, just add socks. The only minor issue that I have noticed is that trail debris does sneak in in the heel opening since it has a tendency to open a little at each stride.

These are a staple in my nutrition plan for training & competing in ultramarathons. The flavors are slight enough to be able to tolerate for hours and you still get enough electrolytes to legitimately stave off muscle cramping. With 360mg Sodium & 100mg Potassium, they replace the need to take oral salt tabs which can be difficult to eat while running. Love the grape flavor these days, but they have a bunch of flavors that are awesome. I love nuun.

310xt Review

Garmin Forerunner 310XT GPS

Garmin Forerunner 310XT GPS

Rating for this product: 5 October 25, 2011

I have had this unit now for about 2 years after owning the Garmin 205 for about the same time frame. I run ultramarathons and when I wear a watch, this is it. I can honestly say that I only have one issue with it and that is the battery life. Just remember that you will need to be diligent about turning the unit off after you use it, otherwise you start your next run, bike, snowshoe, etc...with a low or dead battery (it does charge quickly though). I seem to get 18-20 hours of watch time before it will need another charge.

Battery aside...this is an all out great gps watch. I don't have issue picking up signals under tree cover, I use the elevation, Heart Rate, Virtual Partner, back to start, pace, laps, and the wireless upload to Garmin connect as well as the training software. I've swam with it, cycle with it, and run in various parts of the country and it always works. I've used it to set/measure running events as well. There literally are more features on here than you probably could truly utilize, but with all these features you are able to customize the multiple screens, watch/gps settings etc.

Bottom line is that it's simply a very powerful & durable training tool.

NB 101

New Balance 101 Trail Run Shoe - Men's

New Balance 101 Trail Run Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 25, 2011

I picked up a pair as i was transitioning to a more minimal style of running. I actually ran a number of long runs on the snow covered roads and they were great. Once the snow was gone, it was a little to minimal for my liking (on the road). On the trails they are flat out light and nimble with just barely enough cushion and rockplate to keep you happy. I did a 50k trail race in these and the only trouble I had was in the muddy spots where the shallow lugs of the NB 101 are virtually non-existant. I would suggest that these are perfect for fast, dry, short to mid distance trail races. If you are wanting a minimal trail shoe to run ultras, go for it.
Oh...love the laces, it amazes me the laces that come on some shoes today that simply do not stay tied well. NB has these laces with the varying thickness, well they work great.

Rockridge Trail Running Shoe

Montrail Rockridge Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Montrail Rockridge Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 25, 2011

I moved from the Montrail Mountain Masochist to this shoe and right away you notice the differences in the two. The weight is similar between the two but the thing I noticed the most was that I had some room in the toe box finally. It feels like the shoe is a lower profile than the MM but there is plenty of cushion as well as a good rockplate. For me, training for ultras, it was my #1 go to shoe for any type of trail run. Great shoe overall.

MM Trail Running Shoe

Montrail Mountain Masochist Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Montrail Mountain Masochist Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 25, 2011

I have been pretty happy with the MM shoes overall. I used them for training as well as racing a couple of ultras with no major issues. The traction is solid and the shoes were pretty durable. My foot is a slight wider than average and i did experience some "blow-out" on the outside of the toe box to the point that I could stick my finger in the opening. Aside from that, they were simply a great all around trail running shoe.

Garmin Forerunner 305 GPS

Rating for this product: 5 February 11, 2009

As an endurance trail runner & cyclist, I love this thing. It has replaced my Polar HRM. After a few months of using it, I am still excited to use it. I am love being able to track my long trail runs, use the virtual partner function, and the pace/distance etc.. reminders that you can customize. I utilize the MotionBased.com software that you can upload your workouts to and run detail analysis of. I have not experienced any issue with the GPS and I run wooded trails and use this while cycling. I am very happy with the product and highly recommend.

these are my favorite racing, training, casual socks. I have worn them so many times, in so many conditions, wet, hot, cold, cold & wet, hot & wet, you name it, these are fantastic. Bad socks can ruin your runs, these are awesome.

These are by far my most favorite road shoes. They have replaced my Asics DS for good. Great for long runs, with a plush ride, and lightweight. I am a neutral runner and this shoes fits the bill, already on my 2nd pair. (got ~300 miles on the 1st pair). Fits true to size.

Sugoi Bamboo Zip Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 10, 2009

I have not been disappointed with this shirt. I use it primarily for road/trail running. It's great with a thin baselayer at about 25-30 degrees. I am writing this review after having it for a couple months, and wearing it today on a 10 miler. It breathes well, the zip allows you to control the heat retention, and there is a little zip pocket on the back that fits an mp3 player. The fit is semi-fitted. As for the bamboo, I can't tell how much there really is, but so far, it has been stink-free for me...I would recommend this.

Needs improvement

GoLite Set Wing Trail Running Shoe - Men's

GoLite Set Wing Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 10, 2009

I bought these looking for a light, aggressive trail runner. They are both. They run a little low in the heel and ride a little higher in the forefoot due to the aggressive isomorphic spikes. I have put about 140 trail running miles on these and here are my PROS: great traction, substantial cushion, lightweight, roomy toebox. CONS: had to replace laces (always slipping), they squeak with EVERY step especially when wet!, when pulling the laces, it ripped the top of the toebox. I would rate these as adequate, but needs improvement.

I have had these for a year now, used primarily for trail running in snow or really muddy conditions. I also use them for snowshoeing. I have had to re-sew the velcro on both & replace the elastic cord. They do keep the water, snow, muck & debris out of your shoes but I doubt they will make it through a second winter.
