Voile T Wood Shovel

January 18, 2011

The difference is in the aluminum. The orange uses T6 aluminum which is the strongest aluminum and the yellow uses standard tempered aluminum.

From Voile's site:
T6 is the level of hardness reached in the aluminum heat-treating process for the Voile T6 model avalanche shovel scoop. Avalanche professionals, guides, patrollers, and rescue teams require this level durablity in their avalanche rescue shovel. All Voile T6 avalanche shovel scoops have deadman holes in the scoop to be used for snow anchors or for making a rescue sled.

KEEN Austin Casual Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2011

Very pleased with this shoe. well made, looks god for everyday or even business casual. very comfortable for walking all day. has plenty of arch support - some may find it too much. Roomy toe box but I find them to fit true to size. I wear 9.5 in most brands and same is true with these. great everyday shoe

Sanuk June Bug Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2011

I buy my wife shoes all the time. Honestly, I am not very good at it. I have the running shoes dialed in, thanks New Balance, but outside of that I'm like 30% success rate. I have a pair of sanuks and wanted her to feel like she is walking on clouds of fluffy cotton candy too - so I went for it. I snagged these and success! She loves them. They are comfortable, look good with a variety of outfits and they fit her well. I was nervous about the fit since there are not half sizes. She is a 7.5 and I went with the 7, only size left at the time. It worked out. I/she would recommend these.

great shirt. the fit is loose and long compared to other brands. I am 5'8" and started with the L but ended up with a M. The fabric is smooth and durable. Feels great as well. The style is not over the top outdoors-y.

The North Face Summer Sneaker - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2011

I have read in the past that people have had a problem with the sole separating from the shoe. This has not been my experience. I really like these shoes. Great traction and a pretty true fit. I am almost always a 9.5 and that is what fit me best in these. They are pretty sturdy and still feel light. They also seem to breath well. I was hesitant to buy North Face shoes but I am really like these.

Arc'teryx Fugitive Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Fugitive Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 14, 2011

I have been wearing the fugitive all fall and winter. What I like about it is it seems to breath exceptionally well for being pretty wind resistant. Impressive really. It also insulates well for not being thick. It fits very well under my alpha LT jacket. The material has not pilled and looks like new. The fit overall is good. It is not a loose fit by any means but that is what makes it great. The fit allows you to use it as a mid layer and not be too bunched up.

The bad. The reason it is not a 5 star is the front is cut a little too short in my opinion. I probably should wear a M but my chest usually does not fit the M well. So I went with the L as I usually do with Arc'teryx. I still find the the front of it to come right to my belt. I am only 5'8" so when you add the fact that a M is what I should be wearing to me it seems like it should be a little longer. One thing I do like about the short front is it makes it a great piece for riding the bike. Longer in the back and short in the front are perfect for riding.

I have purchased 3 of these, all larges. Each one fits different. The latest two were completely different especially after washing. One is heather gray and it is way long and slim. The other one I just received is shrunk up a ton and now does not fit. The first one I got was the black -fits me the best and most like what I was expecting. I really like the feel of these and the colors but I just never know what I am going to receive.

Sanuk Fraid So Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 29, 2010

I was a bit worried at first. Thinking like when you lay on a soft bed and at first you're like this is amazing like laying on a pile of whipped cream. Shortly, your back starts to hurt and ache because it is too soft. That was my thought going into these. It was my experience with the North Face Base Camp flips... I was very wrong. I really like these. They look great and feel even better. Great cush or absorbing uneven bumps and just plain walking but still very supportive. I can wear these all day no problem. My feet miss them when I take them off. it's true

Primus Stainless Field Cutlery Kit

Rating for this product: 4 May 24, 2010

Very nice set of cutlery. Withstood more abuse than my forks and spoons I have in my kitchen drawer at home. However they are heavy. Much heavier than I wanted. Opted for the Backcountry.com Spork - much lighter and still very strong. If weight is not an issue for you then you will love the strength. I also liked the little lanyard that is included - very handy.

The North Face Ruckus Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 April 10, 2010

I really like the fit and feel of this shirt. I also liked that it was thicker than the wickedlite and the vaporwick. It is loose all around which gives it an airy feeling and keeps it cool. I have both a large and a medium - I am 5'8" 185. The big down fall is it pills like mad. It only too 2 washes (following the care instructions) before I got little fuzzballs all over. I am not a fan of how it looks when it has all the little fuzzballs. Probably will look for a different shirt in the future.

Arc'teryx Apache AR Zip Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2010

Love this thing. Great fit. It is cut short which works great when layering and just looks good. I went with the large cause I have a large chest and wanted it to be looser. I am 5'7" 185 I really like the fit. If I had to say one thing negative is like all fleece it is a lint and hair magnet. The tweed type of fleece seems to really grab a hold of the lint, fuzz and hair pretty good. Not enough of a negative to give it less than 5 stars. I would buy another one - probably will.

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Women's

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2010

Picked this up for my wife. She really likes it. Which says a lot since she does not like the fit of a lot of the North Face gear. This has a simple design and is very warm. It does fit a bit loose however and it is also cut short. She uses it to layer mostly. Fits nice under her rain shell which at the moment is a Marmot Precip size small. She is 5'3" 108 LBS. The size small in the fleece fits a bit loose and in hindsight the XS may have fit better. She is still very happy with the Small since she is always cold and still wears a layer(s) underneath the khumbu. She has been using it for about 18 months and nothing negative to say.

Electric EC/DC Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 March 26, 2010

I tried a bunch of glasses on to see which ones would fit my fat head. These were my top choice. I narrowed it down to the Smith Coopers, Oakley Gas Can, and the EC/DC. After Further review the EC/DCs were the top choice. I have had them for 2 years now. Very happy. Love the lenses. I have used them fly fishing in Montana and they were much clearer looking in the water than my friends Oakleys. He had a tiny bit darker lenses to be fair. Very sturdy frames and after 2 years no scratches on the lenses. I wear them pretty much everyday and rarely put them in their case so no scratches is a bonus.

DAKINE Mission Backpack - 1600cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 26, 2010

Really happy with this pack. I have used it everyday for well over a year now. Easy to travel with and fits pretty much everything I need. If I had to say one negative thing it would be I could use more pockets either inside the front flap or on the outside somewhere. I usually have a 15" laptop in it plus papers/books/notepad/ipod and a bunch of wires for charging the ipod/laptop connecting things so I have a USB cable/network cable etc. Then of course pens. That all pretty much takes care of all the pockets. I do like the waterbottle pocket and the sunglass pocket. Overall I really like the pack. Comfortable and light. Has the sternum strap and waist belt. I strap all those up with riding the bike. Would buy again and suggest to a friend

picked this up for my wife. She is very picky when it comes to fit. This jacket worked out great. She is 5'3" 107 lbs and the Small fit well. It has been a full year of use and it has retained it's waterproof-ness well. Been in some pretty nasty downpours and handled it like a champ. She used it a lot in the winter and layered over a midweight fleece. I would definitely purchase another one and recommend it to anybody.

Jetboil Jetset Utensil Set

Rating for this product: 2 January 22, 2010

if you move fast an do not stay in contact with the pan for long you will be fine but if you don't - melt down. My spatula lasted a couple uses mainly cause I suspected it would melt. While cooking some fish I was trying to get the whole fish on the spatula to flip I melted the spatula. It is still usable but not that excited to use it again. I melted the fork a bit as well when cooking in the cup. My other complaint is there are a lot of little creases and nooks that food gets in so they are not the easiest to clean. spoon has help up well.

Jetboil Maintenance Kit

Rating for this product: 5 January 22, 2010

I was a little worried when I first got my jetboil several years ago when I saw how high and how brittle this little piece was. I knew I would break it at some point. 26 months later, I did. Of course it took a lot longer than I thought to break it and since I was anticipating it I had this handy replacement ready. Took about 3 minutes to swap. Very simple. Jetboil has come out with a new version of this stove and the new ignitor is shorter and the burner protects it much better.

Good, not Great

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

The North Face Nuptse Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 22, 2010

first, love the jacket. I gave it 4 stars because there are a few weak spots. The hood is worthless. probably better to just get rid of it or add a better one that is removable. I know it is not meant to be a parka but it is warm enough that I would never own a parka and this even with my gear addiction. There are more cold spots in this jacket than with the others I have used like montbell. I think it is the baffles or how the seams are sewn through. Overall though for a very warm jacket that looks good, fits good and compresses very nice this is tough to beat for the price.

Rating for this product: 4 October 2, 2009

Overall the fleece is very nice. The stretch panels on the sides are a plus. I have worn it quite a bit this spring and now into fall. The negative thing about this is the fit is a bit longer than I would have liked and it seems to be an athletic cut. A drawstring at the bottom would have been nice but it doesn't have that-would have helped since it fit me long. I would recommend this jacket still. Not as hot as the Khumbu and I like the stretch panels for better breathability and movement. I am 5'8 185lbs if that helps. I got the M

I could fit a ton of stuff in the 2100 Cu In but never needed that much. So I bought this one as well. I like it a lot better as far as size goes. Much more practical. I put my 15" laptop in it, and that leaves me with 4-6 inches of depth to put books and stuff in.

The North Face TKA 100 Twin Lakes Fleece Jacket - Women's

September 2, 2009

So the tech specs on the right say fleece weight 200 but the material is TKA 100 so it is it 100 weight fleece or 200 weight. It looks like 100 weight so thought I would check.

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Jacket - Women's

September 2, 2009

They are the same jacket just from different seasons. TNF comes out with a new color selection every season and since black is one that stays the same they create a new way to say it such as black/black. This is what I have been told by BC gearheads anyway. makes sense

Brunton Helios Stormproof Lighter

Brunton Helios Stormproof Lighter

Rating for this product: 5 August 6, 2009

I like this lighter. works well and burns hot. Almost too hot. The flame is so hot when starting a fire it burns up the tinder. It seems to burn fairly efficient too. I have not filled it up much even though I have used it a ton and play with it all the time. It is pretty durable as well. Mine was thrown from my jeep on a bumpy road and shows no scars. Is it a necessary item? probably not unless wind is a huge factor. Using it with the brunton fuel tool to refill it is also a nice feature. but really I bought it cause it makes a cool jet engine sound when lit :)

The regular prolite pad will work. I have used it with the prolite 4 many times. I have the regular size pad which is 20" and the taper does not affect it.

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir Sleeping Pad

August 6, 2009

Prolite Plus is killer. I have used it a bunch on top of snow and in 0 degree temps. I am pretty sure the Neo will not be a good option in snowy cold temps based on the R-Value (I think is 2.5).

Using it in conjunction with a z-lite is an option as stated previously but why add the extra bulk-unless space is not an issue. I have both and use the prolite in the winter/snow and Neo the rest of the year
