So I am 5'9, 160 lbs, 32 waist, 38 hips, by the size chart I would be a small, but from other reviews I'm not sure if a Medium would be better or not. 21" around the largest part of my quads, and average upper body vs. leg proportions. What size should I get?

I think what these people are trying to say is, the dual control levers are designed for a low-normal (rapid rise) rear derailleur (i.e. the spring in the rear derailleur pushes it into your lowest gear/largest cog when the cable is released all the way - backwards from a regular top-normal rear d)
But, they will work just fine with either type of derailleur.

Why a carbon cage?

Yeah, this derailleur shifts great and is awesome, but why the heck do companies keep making rear derailleurs with carbon cages?!? These are for mountain bikes people!! I had this der. for 2 months (I ran a 960 rear for 2 years until replacing it with this, but it is still in good shape) until a rock bounced up and hit the cage and broke it in half 10 miles from the finish of a 100k mtb race, and I was in 4th place at the time. Called Shimano and they said "you might as well get a new derailleur since the cage is so expensive" Then what is the point of having it be replaceable??? And, you can't use an aluminum cage from the XT Shadow because they are not mounted the same way. So basically, get the XT shadow, it shifts just as well, costs less than half as much, and it won't @#$^!&^ break in half when a little rock hits it! Oh yeah, it weighs like 20 grams more... big deal... give me an aluminum cage any day...

How are the seals? I've heard bad things about all the grease being gone in crank bros pedals after long wet muddy rides and having to switch out the bearings fairly often.. like once or twice a year
