Small fit but killer style! A bit on the lighter side, but would be perfect for late spring/early fall. Make sure to size up!

Nixon Platform Watch - Men's

Nixon Platform Watch - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 8, 2011

Recently snagged this watch in the Drab color on Whiskey Militia for a killer price and am convinced it is going to be the first of many Nixon watches. Build quality seems great and the watch has some noticeable 'heft' to it but doesn't feel at all heavy when on your wrist.

Have always owned either black or silver watches -- was a bit hesitant about the drab color scheme, but it looks great in person. Will pair easily w/ any outfit.

As already mentioned, the hour markings are a polished stainless steel (at least on the Drab model) and just enough to catch your eye without being obnoxious.

The only minor gripe I have is with the backlight. A bit weak in illumination compared to other watches I own, and only the center lights up (not the hour markings). Then again, anyone over the age of 10 should be able to tell the time w/o using hour markings. Regardless, it's an amazing watch and would recommend it to anyone.

And for anyone wondering... the watch comes with 2 additional links and pins. While they recommend having a dealer size it for you, the pins can easily be punched out. Use a small deadblow hammer/punch and punch the pin out OPPOSITE from the side with the slot (looks almost like a small flathead screw)

+1 for Stoic/Merino gear

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 18, 2011

Have quite a few of these in my wardrobe in addition to the long-sleeved version. Great shirt, extremely comfortable and am always finding myself wearing them. Only issue I've noticed is in regards to long-term durability, but then again it would be the same case with any light weight wool gear. My charcoal colored shirt gets the most abuse/wear -- thrown in the wash w/ the rest of my day to day clothes, and after about 6 months I started to notice small holes along the bottom front. Barely noticeable and would probably be a non issue if I treated it like the rest.

5'10" and the medium fits great. Athletic fit to it, so you might want to size up if you're a bit pudgy around the mid-section.

Almost perfect

Ruffwear Knot-A-Leash

Ruffwear Knot-A-Leash

Rating for this product: 4 April 18, 2011

Have the 7mm version that works just fine on my 45-ish pound mutt... not that I expect it to break, but in hindsight would probably have preferred the 10mm version just out of personal preference. Regardless, it's a great leash and would recommend it to anyone. Only improvement I could think of would be some sort of swivel -- or somehow training my dog to stop turning in circles

MSR Fuel Bottle

April 16, 2011

Agree with the others that it all depends on storage. Was cleaning out my parent's basement about 5 years ago and found my dad's old camping gear -- old 2 burner Coleman stove and a case of white gas cans... even had the original dated (1976!!) receipt in the box. Thought I'd give it a shot, and sure enough both the stove and fuel worked perfectly. Still use the stove for car camping and am about half way through that original case :) As long as it's sealed in a cool/dry environment, the stuff can literally last a lifetime.

Great fall/spring jacket

Kavu Ketch-a-can Jacket - Men's

Kavu Ketch-a-can Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 22, 2010

Was able to snag one of the last few in Black for $20-something which was a huge plus :)

Overall I think the jacket is great, and perfect to add to your closet for a good all-around fall/spring jacket. The mesh lining isn't the greatest, but unless you plan on going shirtless under this thing, it's a moot point -- the fleece around the cuffs and neck is a real nice touch and very comfortable.

The pockets are well placed and are of reasonable size. While others have complained about the smaller zipper on the inside, I like it as it seems less prone to snag on things... pocket is perfectly sized for a wallet/ipod/phone/etc.

Canvas outer material gives it a bit of a rugged look, but the overall cut & design gives an urban appeal and wouldn't hesitate wearing it around town or out to the bar. The brown stitching featured on the black jacket adds a nice touch of character.

As far as sizing goes, I took advice from the other reviewers and am thankful.... this jacket can run a bit on the large side. I wear a medium in everything (5' 10", 165 lbs, 38" chest... all around 'average'), purchased the small in this and couldn't be happier. That being said, you do need to size accordingly. As is, fitting a thicker layer underneath might be a bit snug, but as an 'around town' jacket with thinner shirts it works like a charm.

Have yet to try this in windy or rainy conditions, so until then this jacket only gets 4 stars. Definitely would recommend this jacket to anyone (just remember to size accordingly!)

Stoic Luft Down Sweater - Men's

Stoic Luft Down Sweater - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 8, 2009

Recently picked this up on SAC and couldn't be happier.

This is my first down jacket so my experience is limited... but I was initially concerned when I first got it. It was much lighter than expected and noticeably not as bulky as the typical 700-fill North Face jackets a few friends have, so I was a bit worried about performance. After wearing it the first time I realized I made a great purchase. Wore it to class and around town this morning in 28*F weather with just a cotton T-shirt on and was perfectly warm. The arms are noticeably 'colder' than the torso (given the underarm panels most likely), but that's a relative term, and am sure with any sort of physical activity above and beyond walking, would be non-noticeable. Either way, this is looking to be my go-to jacket this winter.

5'10", 170lbs and the M fits nicely. As the description states, the fit is 'athletic' so plan accordingly. Planning on pairing this up w/ my Stoic 2.0 shell for snowboarding, and is looking to be a nice combo. Follow the description in regards to sizing/layering and you'll be fine.
Torso-length on me is just fine, but for others could see it possibly being a problem depending on individual size. Jacket ends right around the pubic bone.

Nice fleecy material inside the pockets and internal draw strings that can help keep the bottom in place. Highly compressible and stows to about the size of a water bottle. Spot on to the description, and every bit as great as the rest of my BC/Stoic products -- a definite must-have!

Anxious for snow

Stoic Tour Softshell Pant - Men's

Stoic Tour Softshell Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 29, 2009

Haven't had a chance to try these out yet, but can comment on the great quality and say that they are damn comfortable -- If it wasn't for the cuffs, I'd probably wear them to bed!
The ankle/cuff reinforcements are a nice feature to improve durability -- the material seems very similar to my kevlar kayak spray skirt and could see it holding up very well to abuse.
Both the right front and rear pocket have an additional interior pocket -- wouldn't trust putting anything in the front w/o it falling out, but the rear seems like a good place to keep your phone/multi-tool/etc. in place.
As others have mentioned, they fit true to size. 32" waist here and the M's fit perfectly.

Only gave 4 stars as I have yet to see these in action so wouldn't feel right giving a perfect 5 and also did notice a few stray threads on some of the stitching. The stitches were in no way flawed, just had some excess hanging off the end so I had to nitpick. Otherwise, couldn't be happier with the purchase!

CamelBak Better Bottle Back to School w/ Bite Valve - .75L

CamelBak Better Bottle Back to School w/ Bite Valve - .75L

Rating for this product: 5 September 27, 2009

Bought a second CamelBak bottle to have on hand as my other stays clipped to my bag for class/around town. After a year, my original has seen better days but has held up great despite all the scratches and scuffs. Did have a mishap with the bite valve leaking, but a quick email to CamelBak and I had a free replacement within a week or two. Pick one (or a few) up, you won't be disappointed!

Good outdoor watch

Highgear Axis Watch

Highgear Axis Watch

Rating for this product: 4 September 27, 2009

Wasn't planning on relying my life on this watch, so I didn't have an issue picking up such a relatively inexpensive watch. Basically just wanted something that would hold up when outdoors (camping, kayaking, etc.) and this has more than fit the bill. The compass/thermometer/barometer, while not perfect in any way, are a nice addition, and for the price you really can't complain. If you expect pinpoint accuracy, look elsewhere -- but if you want a great, inexpensive watch for outdoors, look no further.

Great cargo box

Yakima RocketBox 16 DO NOT USE

Yakima RocketBox 16 DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 September 27, 2009

Can't speak much of durability as I've had this for only a few months, but as a cargo box this thing is amazing. Most inexpensive of any out there and still manages to hold almost anything you throw in it. Bought this mainly as a way to free up space in my Jeep that was being taken up by all the odds-and-ends I had inside... tow straps, jumper cables, tool kit, etc. On a recent camping trip I was able to fit all of this plus a few packs, full size camp stove, multiple tents and sleeping bags and a few other miscellaneous items.
As mentioned, be sure to take measurements of your rack to make sure it will fit... mine just barely fit on my 2008 Jeep Liberty with the rear hatch pressing up against the box a bit when fully opened. Aside from that, the only disappointment I've had is not having bought one any sooner!

Great all-around hoodie

Backcountry.com Siphon Street Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Backcountry.com Siphon Street Full-Zip Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 27, 2009

Basically what everyone else has said is true...

Extremely comfortable to lounge around in all day, but also nice enough to wear out and about in town.

Definitely an 'athletic' cut, so plan accordingly. 5'9" & 165 lbs and I went with the Medium. Close fitting in the torso (which I like) but w/ the thumbhole inner cuffs, the sleeves have a bit more length to them than your standard hoodie, but still reasonable.

Didn't give it 5 stars for 2 reasons... #1 is the price -- if it wasn't for SAC, I definitely would not have paid full price for this. #2 is the mesh inner pockets... some might prefer them, but I can't stand the feel of them. Those complaints aside, an overall great hoodie and would recommend it to anyone the next time it pops up on SAC

Great Knife

CRKT Tiny Tighe Breaker Knife

CRKT Tiny Tighe Breaker Knife

Rating for this product: 4 February 23, 2009

Not sure why so many people have had problems with this accidentally opening. I tried dropping/banging/throwing/etc. as others have mentioned and still have yet to see it 'accidentally' open. It takes a decent amount of pressure to get the blade started, and don't really see how anything short of throwing it onto concrete could possibly get it to open. Carry it in your pocket w/ the clip and you won't have to worry.

The blade is super sharp, and the deep asymmetrical serrations should be rather effective.

The dual finger grooves give a great grip and the knife seems to be well balanced.

The only thing I don't like about it (the only thing keeping it from getting 5 stars) is the blade finish. The black titanium nitride is a bit too glossy for my taste and shows dirt/oil/smudges well, though is purely an aesthetic flaw. All in all a great knife

Eagle Creek Explorer LT Travel Pack

February 13, 2009

How much of the pack does the 'travel shell' cover exactly? I plan on using this as a carry on, but in the event I would have to check the pack, I don't want to have to worry about the straps getting caught on a conveyor belt or the like -- will it fully cover the straps and prevent them from getting snagged?
