Eagle Creek Pack-It Specter Cube

August 22, 2012

What does this thing do, that a plastic (or paper) shopping bag from the local grocery store can't do?

Backcountry Access Profile 240 Avalanche Probe

Backcountry Access Profile 240 Avalanche Probe

Rating for this product: 4 November 1, 2011

Does it's job just about perfectly. Luckily haven't had to use mine in any real scenarios yet, but from training and checking snow depths it's been solid so far. It might be a bit short for some scenarios, and a carbon probe would without a doubt be a bit lighter and stiffer. But it's quick to deploy, has clear markings and is overall an excellent product with good value.

Marker Jester Ski Binding

November 1, 2011

Well. If you want a durable binding I would suggest you look away from griffons. I've been riding Jester's with no problem for some time, and I'm very happy with them, lightweight and burly enough. Now the FKS 140 isn't the same the older bombproof FKS140/Pivot 14s, as it has the PX-style toe, and not the pivot-style (pivots are the same as fks). STH 16 would also be a great choice I guess. The STH 14 driver is solid too. Atomic FFG is the same as the STH..

So in short I would look most at Jester or STH16, or sth14 driver (same toepiece as 16, not sure if the make a non-driver toepiece sth14 anymore) And if you end up with STH, buy FFG if they're cheaper as they are the same.

Backcountry Access Tracker 2 Avalanche Beacon

Backcountry Access Tracker 2 Avalanche Beacon

Rating for this product: 5 May 24, 2011

Simple, easy to use beacon! I've had no problems with mine whatsoever. Searching is easy and fast, and I like the mechanical switching to search mode. Although it lacks the advanced functions of the Pieps DSP and Mammut Pulse, it's still one of the best out there. And probably a better choice for most people, that will most likely never need the advanced functions of the two other ones. I would most definitely recommend this to anyone buying their first beacon.

Great shovel

G3 AviTECH Shovel

G3 AviTECH Shovel

Rating for this product: 5 May 24, 2011

Love it! Does the job perfectly, and digging works fine with mitts to thanks to the D-handle. I don't think you can require much else from a shovel. Although it might be a bit on the heavier side for long touring.

DAKINE Travel Sleeve

DAKINE Travel Sleeve

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2010

This thing is the perfect little sleeve for keeping those things that usually float around in the backpack or on your desk when you're at home. Enough room for passport, travel insurance cards, memory cards for the compact camera, plane tickets etc. Thanks to this sleeve I now know where I got those travel essentials in my otherwise messy dorm room.

Great for park and inbounds skiing

DAKINE Impreza Glove - Men's

DAKINE Impreza Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2010

Been using these a lot lately. They've kept me dry and warm in temps between 0 and -10 C (32 - 15 F). The fit is nice and tight, and dexterity is about as good as it gets with gloves on, actually managed to use my cellphone with them on. In other words, perfect for park and inbounds skiing when it's not too cold.

Good low-cost wax

Swix Cera Nova CH Wax

Swix Cera Nova CH Wax

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2009

The CH10 is max wax of choice for cleaning the bases of my skis, and also for getting the bases good and saturated. If you don´t really wanna pay a bit more for the LF waxes, this would be my choice for everyday wax too.

Oakley Crowbar Goggle Replacement Lens

Oakley Crowbar Goggle Replacement Lens

Rating for this product: 5 November 8, 2009

Got the Fire iridium for those nice sunny bluebird days, the G30 for those changing days and the Clear ones for night skiing. They have all been solid for me, had some hard falls with them, and barely any scratches. I wear the crowbar with a Sweet Rambler helmet though, so the goggles might take a bigger beating when riding without a helmet, flying of the head etc..

Skullcandy Smokin' Buds Headphones - 2011

Skullcandy Smokin' Buds Headphones - 2011

Rating for this product: 3 November 7, 2009

I have had these for a while, and they are pretty good. The sound is ok, and they block outside noise pretty good. The downside I think the cord is a bit on the long side, and the volume control is bouncing around. I taped the volume control in the max position with some tape, that fixed that problem.

Not really made for sports

Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones - 2011

Skullcandy Lowrider Headphones - 2011

Rating for this product: 2 November 7, 2009

As sport headphones these aren´t really that good, you have to have the goggle straps over them while skiing to keep them on your head. The sound is weak, and every outside noise will disturb most of your music. I currently use mine only with the macbook pro around the house. I would recommend the iCon or even better the new iCon 2 instead, or maybe some earbuds.

Great improvement on the iCon

Skullcandy Icon 2 Headphones

Skullcandy Icon 2 Headphones

Rating for this product: 5 November 7, 2009

Skullcandy have simply stepped up and made the original iCons better with the iCon 2. The rubber underneath the top of the headband make sure they don´t slide of your head. The earpads have been improved and the padding is thinner, and more solid than the old porous ones on the iCons.

I´ve had these on a pair of K2 PEs for a couple of years now, and they hold up pretty good, haven´t had any problems with them. But they are a bit on the heavy side, which isn´t perfect if you like to spend some time in the air.

DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag

DAKINE Fall Line Double Ski Bag

Rating for this product: 4 November 6, 2009

I´ve used this bag for a year now, and it´s pretty solid. Can fit two pair of skis or one pair of skis and one pair of boots. Although, I would never recommend anyone two have their boots in the checked in luggage when flying. There´s also plenty of room for outerwear, gloves etc. If you want to fit more than two pair of skis though, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
