The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Prism

The North Face Cat's Meow Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Climashield Prism

Rating for this product: 4 January 17, 2011

I've used the bag down to 0 degrees F with a thin fleece liner and it was just right. The velcro near the head does a good job keeping cold air out.

Marmot Troll Wall Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 17, 2011

This jacket is great. It breathes pretty well ( the pit zips help ) and it stops any weather I take it into. It's also very durable and hasn't shown any wear despite pretty heavy use. It fits a little baggy and is great for layering. 6'1" 185 and the large leaves me space for whatever layers I need underneath.

Pretty good, not great

Arc'teryx Pali Rope Bag

Arc'teryx Pali Rope Bag

Rating for this product: 2 January 17, 2011

I use it for a 70m 9.8mm rope and I really have to crank hard on the brim when i'm rolling it closed. The closing system wasn't obvious and took a few tries to figure out. It's a little awkward to carry, but that's probably because I'm using a really heavy rope and filling the bag to capacity. The material is really solid and the inner tarp has plenty of space for the 70m rope. The closing strap, which has to wrap around the bottom of the bag to keep the brim folded and the bag closed, can sometimes slide off of the bottom and cause the bag to basically open, either dumping your rope, choking you, or throwing you off balance. If you cinch it down properly, this won't be an issue but it takes a few tries to figure out.

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Welder Hi Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 13, 2010

I have not yet field tested this jacket, but for just wearing around and doing some light climbing the jacket is great. The fleece is REALLY high loft and quite warm. The sleeves and torso are long which works well for me and the fit is a touch baggier than I would prefer in a Large (6'1" 185). I'll check in again when the nasty weather rolls around and I get to give this jacket a real test.

Rating for this product: 5 March 22, 2010

This is my first merino T and it was way better than I expected. I got it for $26 on SAC and now I realize they are worth way more than that. Please make more. 6'1" 185 and the L is a good athletic fit.

Not great

Arc'teryx Zeta Softshell Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Zeta Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 March 11, 2010

This is a VERY light softshell. I previously had a backcountry shift element and the shift element is better than this jacket in every way I care about: warmer, sturdier, cut better, better wind / water resistance to name a few. The cuffs on this jacket are very small and I can barely get them over my hands. I have no idea why the shell material is so different between the shift element and this jacket - both are listed as polartec powershield. Sending it back.

Great Buy

Marmot Ama Dablam Down Jacket - Men's

Marmot Ama Dablam Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 8, 2010

Brought this jacket as an emergency layer on a hiking trip. However, I forgot my hardshell and had to use this over a skimpy base layer above tree line. It was AWESOME. The air temps were hovering around 0 deg F with wind chills dipping into the -20 to -30 F range. I actually had to open the jacket up and vent into the frigid wind at points to regulate my temperature. Super toasty. I'm comfortable being idle outside with wind chills in the high single digits / low teens. 6'1" 185 and the large fits really well.
