Ibex Woolies Crew - Men's

Ibex Woolies Crew - Men's

First off, let me mention that unlike many of the customers at this site, my cold weather gear is used for long treks to the bus stop, long waits for the bus, and long bus rides with no heat. I have about 0 tolerance for the cold. I am a librarian and have a need to dress appropriately (not looking like a homeless guy with 30 bulging layers) for the library, this requires thin and warm clothes. This shirt is awesome for all of the above situations. It is very comfortable to wear by itself around the apartment, whether or not the heat is working - it doesn't get too warm if the heat picks up, and it keeps me sufficiently warm when the heat (generally) does not kick on. I still haven't gotten the whole "wearing pants" thing down yet, though, so if they make similar leggings, that would be great. Also, it works well for shoveling snow - I wear this, a t-shirt, and a light jacket. It keeps me from overheating and freezing. Also, it comes in black, which is necessary.

YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon

YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon

Rating for this product: 4 February 2, 2009

I live on top of a steep two-mile dead-end hill where salt trucks do not come and people do not deem it necessary to shovel their sidewalks. These are very useful. They sometimes get salt trapped in the coils, but this is a rarity. All in all, they work extremely well. I have been using these daily for a couple months and they have not come off yet, they have not lost their traction yet, the rubber has not cracked or ripped, nor have they been so tight as to cause me discomfort. The down side: I have noticed a fair amount rust in the two months that I've used these. This is a problem, obviously exacerbated the all the salt out in front of the library where I work, but I'm sure that anyone who wears these in an urban environment will experience the same situation. Due to the rust, I fear that these will perhaps last me two seasons. Not bad, but not permanent. Buy a couple at a time to save on shipping.

Marmot Lightweight Bottom - Men's

Marmot Lightweight Bottom - Men's

I give it a five, mang. Really, I think these are excellent - they fit me very well, they were extremely comfortable, and they make me feel uber sexy. The last part might not be the case for you. Still, they are very, very warm and the material is soft and comfy. I like most of the Marmot brand stuff I've purchased, but this was the first thing I bought and it really turned me onto other stuff by the company.

I'm not gonna lie - it looks great and it is warm. Very warm. Unfortunately, it constantly slides up and off of my head. This pisses me off a lot. I do not have a very large head, perhaps this is the problem, but I also have tried to wear this over a balaclava and have had the same problem. My head is not that damn small. This thing is only more irritating because of how sweet it would be if it would stay in place.

Outdoor Research PL 400 Glove - Men's

Outdoor Research PL 400 Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2009

These are the best. Really, they are - for $26.00? There aren't better gloves for that price - I defy you to find me better gloves for ~$26. They are warm and can be worn without a liner, even for snowball fights. They didn't soak through at all! Also, the grip is sufficient to smoke a cigarette - that's pretty damn good, in my opinion. When it gets below the teens, however, a liner/outer glove is going to be needed. I suggest the Mountain Hardwear 'Butter' liner - those are also extremely warm.

Skullcandy Titan Bud Headphones

Skullcandy Titan Bud Headphones

Rating for this product: 5 November 18, 2008

these buds are fucking amazing for the price. while it's obvious that they aren't Sennheiser-quality, they certainly deliver a full range of audio with minimal distortion of extreme highs and lows better than many leading brands - if you have some sort of doubt as to whether to go with these are a cheaper brand, buy these! not only do they surprise with clarity of audio at various frequencies, they also look pretty sweet. they come with two sets of comfy foam earbuds and one set of rubber.
one drawback is that the foam inserts get pretty dirty fairly quickly (perhaps this is more dependent on individual hygiene).
