Gore Bike Wear Tool SO Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2008

I have four jackets for cycling (two gore bike wear and two Pearl Izumi) and this is my favorite. It is so well thought out in its design. The three open pockets in the back are similar to a summer jersey. Instead of one large pocket, i can store tissues in one, keys/cell phone and skull cap/blalaclava in another and a glove inserts in the third. Someone else might take along a tool set or tube etc. That still leaves two zippered pockets. (Actually the one in front usually carries my phone and the one in back my keys.)
I used this jacket in 15 degree windchill with two thin baselayers and did an hour of riding without a touch of chill to my torso. I wore it today in 38 degree windchill with one thin baselayer (Pearl Izumi microsensor) and was toasty for 20 miles of hard riding.
I haven't thought of using the pit zips yet...Too busy concentrating on riding. I could and should have used them today.

also, at what temperature (real feel) would you start wearing a jacket like this. I have never held one or perused one. Would you wear this at 45 degrees with one wicking shirt underneath? would that be about right?mike

Pearl Izumi Insula Tour Jacket - Men's

If you're right at 43" at the chest, you might want to go with an XL. If you don't mind your gear a little snug, the L will still probably work for you. Personally I prefer a snugger fit with my winter gear, I stay warmer! thanks matt.... also this is semi form fit on the pearl izumi site so maybe there is a bit of playroom anyway...

Is it better to get this jacket one size larger to add base layers or go true to your actual size? I measure just under 43" at the chest...
thanks
