Arc'teryx Miura 50 Backpack - 2746-3356cu in

Arc'teryx Miura 50 Backpack - 2746-3356cu in

Rating for this product: 5 November 24, 2009

This pack is outstanding. The ability to open the pack entirely using the side zips is something I wish could be incorporated into everything. I use it for stashing my gear and heading out for a climb, but for pretty much everything else in my life. If you're like me and you just stuff clothes into a bag for a weekend trip or if you're staying at a friend's or relatives for a while, you'd love this bag. No more pulling everything out just to get at a pair of socks or my pyjamas!

For climbing, it works great. The gear loops on the inside work perfectly for holding quickdraws, the tough bottom of the bag and the PU coating make it perfect for just tossing my rope in there (it also fits packed up into my rope bag - just need a little creativity). I only wish it had ice axe loops! That would make it absolutely flawless.

The roll-top is easy to use and nice and secure. My only gripe is that if i'm riding a bike it definitely knocks the back of my head (or helmet)...so not to be cycling with!

Comfy, slim, alarmingly long

Backcountry.com Logo T-Shirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 25, 2009

I love the shirt, I do. Something about the backcountry.com goat logo just makes it the best thing in the world.

The shirt is soft and really comfortable, and has a nice athletic cut.

I would agree with others though, the length is very strange. It comes down to my mid-thigh, which is bizarre. Other than that, love it.

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

October 9, 2009

I had the same problem when I bought these, mad pain in the big toe knuckle. I stuck it out and now it's definitely barely noticeable. The better fit in the heel is what made me put up with some toe pain. The toe box DOES eventually conform to your foot shape. I've got a callous on the knuckle now, so the pain isn't what it used to be. That said, I just put up with it in favour of the performance I'm able to get out of the shoe.

Surprisingly comfortable

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 October 9, 2009

These shoes are ace. I got them to replace Evolv Predators that I'd worn out. I was a little apprehensive about trying the Jet7's because the Evolvs were so comfortable, but these have turned out great. I wore an 8.5 in the Evolv shoe (probably could have done an 8) but went all the way down to 7.5 for these. The break-in for these was painful, but the fit is wicked now that I've had them for a while. I was very impressed by the rubber on these too, nice and sticky and darn durable. I've worn my edges down pretty fiercely but I'm pretty sure that's user error.

Excellent

Five Ten Anasazi Verde Lace-up Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Anasazi Verde Lace-up Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 October 9, 2009

I picked these up to replace my first pair of shoes ever, the 5.10 Gambits. I wanted something with better edges and that was a touch more aggressive. These shoes were just great and lasted me until I decided I wanted to work more on overhanging boulder problems. They still sit with my gear and I whip them out occasionally if i'm looking for comfort on sport laps.

Good for Beginners

Five Ten Gambit Climbing Shoe - Men's

Five Ten Gambit Climbing Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 9, 2009

I bought these as a beginner shoe, they was my first pair of climbing shoes ever. They served me great, were super comfy but definitely very much a beginner shoe. They aren't the best at anything, really, but they are more than adequate, especially when you're just starting out and want a do-most-things shoe.

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2009

This coming Canadian winter will shy away from the power of the Sub Zero. I'm super excited about this jacket. I wore it the other night when it was hovering around the frost point, without anything underneath it...and was still toasty.

Only thing i'd say is the short torso may not appeal to some. It's just fine by me that's for sure. I look forward to belaying in cold weather with this jacket, as the shorter torso is the perfect length for not interfering with a harness!

Mountain Hardwear Lamina 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Synthetic

Mountain Hardwear Lamina 0 Sleeping Bag: 0 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 October 3, 2009

This bag is honestly just plain awesome. I was wary about a synthetic bag at first, but after trying out the lamina, there's definitely no need to be. The Thermic Micro insulation is truly amazing stuff. I can pack this bag down with a compression sack smaller than almost any other synthetic i've tried, most of them with warmer ratings! As for the warmth, very impressed. I naturally sleep warm, and it's definitely subjective, but I used this bag at an MTB race last fall where we got frost overnight and had a comfortable sleep, despite forgetting my thermarest! And I was in a 3-season tent that was mainly mesh! Very impressed by this bag. The other day as I was uncompressing it for storage i noticed it even has a little internal pocket at the chest for glasses/contacts/lights! Beauty.
