Spring or Fall, but not Winter, Hat

Craft Active Skull Hat

Craft Active Skull Hat

Rating for this product: 3 November 23, 2011

This hat would be fine under a helmet in the spring or fall when you just need to combat cool weather conditions. It's functionality and temperature range is closer to a traditional, cotton cycling hat than a warm winter beanie. The description says "GORE Windstopper" but I assure you that's not the case. I actually returned my first one thinking I'd been sent the wrong item by mistake. The second one was identical to the first, so I'd have to say it's just not as described.

Good Bib, But...

Capo CSS Classic Bib Short - Men's

Capo CSS Classic Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 October 7, 2008

This bib appears to be well constructed. Nice fabric, great pad, flat seams. My only issues were completely of the personal preference type. First, I like a pad that comes up a bit higher in the front. The pad on these bibs are definitely of the low rise variety. Second, I like my bib straps to be more centered. The straps on these bibs were East and West of my nipples. They always felt like they were falling off. Last thing I want to do during a long ride is to be tugging at my bib straps to get them back on my shoulders.

Great Baselayer

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 7, 2008

The shirt works well as a baselayer for cycling. It wicks well, is lightweight, and is very comfortable. I've worn it quite a few times, including a century, and forgot I had it on. The only complaint that I have is I wish it were a bit longer so that I could wear it for running. It's definitely a cycling length cut. All-in-all, for the price, it's worth the money.

A Tale of Two Halves

Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Micro Bib Bike Short - Men's

Pearl Izumi P.R.O. Micro Bib Bike Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 September 30, 2008

I've become a bib fan, and I've slowly been replacing my shorts with bibs as they wear out. I was anxious to try these bibs out since I have really liked my P.I. shorts.

The shorts (bottom half) were as expected. Fit well, stayed put, good pad without the dreaded diaper feel. The bib (top half) was a disappointment. First, the fabric feels like cheese cloth. It is very scratchy. Not the feel that I'm looking for on a long ride. Second, the seam at the top of the shoulder straps was substantial. Not wide, but a big ridge. Again, could be a problem for a long ride.

If Pearl Izumi changes the suspender portion of these bibs, I'll consider them, but until they do, they've only got one half of the equation correct.

Better Than Average

Craft Pro Race Bib Short - Men's

Craft Pro Race Bib Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 30, 2008

I'm 6'1", 180#. Normally, I would wear a large size, but these fit better in a medium. A couple of things that I don't like about these bibs are the pad, which doesn't come up high enough in the front. It really stops at an awkward place. Also, the fabric is almost see through. I'm not modest by any means, but these were too translucent even for me.

Only For Shorter Men?

Gore Bike Wear Ozon Bib Short w/ Pad - Men's

Gore Bike Wear Ozon Bib Short w/ Pad - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 September 30, 2008

At 6'1", 180#, I'm generally a large in bibs. P.I., Craft, Hincapie, you name it. In the Gore's, I'm probably an XL and maybe even an XXL. Not because of the waist, but because of the length of the shoulder straps. When I put them on, my wife looked at me and said "..oh, that CANNOT be comfortable!" Let's just say they rode very high and tight. Even bent over like I would be on the bike, they were cutting off blood flow to the nether regions. Width wise, they were a bit tight, but that would be great to keep up muscle compression on long rides. My recommendation is to look elsewhere, or at least buy a size larger than normal until they add some length to the bib straps.

Awesome jersey

Castelli Bike Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Castelli Bike Jersey - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 8, 2008

For the price, I don't think this jersey can be beat. I works well, fits well, and looks great. I've already washed mine 10+ times and it still looks brand new. I've worn it on climbs in 95+ degree heat, and it really wicks sweat away. The cut is definately an athletic cut, but it's not a skin tight cut like some European racing jerseys.
