How long is the actual frame of this pack? From the Deuter website,

How long is the actual frame of this pack? From the Deuter website, I see the dimensions are 23"x11"x8". This is slightly longer than most airlines allow as carry ons. Is there any chance I can get a pack that isn't filled completely through airline security by squishing down the top a bit? Thanks!

Best Boots for Antarctic Conditions

These boots truly are the best. I have worn them everyday for the last nine months at the South Pole. They are tough, warm, and stable. Most boots you find down here at the end of the world (bunny boots, FDX boots) are ankle-breakers and lack traction. My Sorels are a cut above. They have kept me warm through our frigid temps (-10F to -100F) without issues. On the coldest days when I'm planning on standing around outside I add foot warmers, but otherwise they are great. After 9 months of solid use well below freezing, the rubber uppers of the boots have cracked, but they are still as warm as the first day I used them. I'm planning on buying another pair once I'm off the Ice and headed to the Arctic. They are a little bulky and heavy if you're not out in the elements, but you won't find a better boot.

Perfect for Polar Adventures!

Patagonia R4 Fleece Jacket - Women's

I bought this jacket for polar travel, and its perfect! Its great for both layering and as an outer layer. The jacket's wind stopping capabilities make it perfect for an outer jacket on dry arctic summer days, and the warm fleece will be a great mid layer in the antarctic. The downside is the sizing. The arms are HUGE, and the torso true to size. Its a strange combination, but it doesn't restrict mobility, so its all good!

Overall, a great jacket!

Cute, but not practical

Oakley Float Bib Pant - Women's

These pants are very cute, but they really aren't practical for anyone who is really going to venture outside and DO ANYTHING. I liked the bib feature for skiing, but it turns out the strap isn't secured to the pants very well. In the back, it is only attached by two snaps, which let go the minute you put tension on them (ie: bend over to adjust boots, bindings, etc.). Without the bibs they work fine, but they just lost half of the advertised functionality.
