Yakima Fairings

Yakima Fairings

Rating for this product: 5 November 23, 2009

I hated my Yakima rack before I bought this. I never left it on my car because anything over 30mph sounded like I was riding in a convertible. It was super easy to install and Yakima even includes small removable patches to protect your paint. Now even cruising at 75 I have almost no wind noise and it makes the whole package look a lot cooler.

Worth the extra money

Yakima SKS Lock Cores - 6 pack

Yakima SKS Lock Cores - 6 pack

Rating for this product: 5 November 23, 2009

Although after a hefty price tag for rack and bars and fairing and what not, these can seem pretty superfluous they are definitely worth it. Super easy to install and then easy to use. I have my rack locked to my car and my bike locked to my rack when I use all of them so I can leave it all on the roof after a long ride.

Great tires!

Hutchinson Fusion 2 Ultra Road Tire

Hutchinson Fusion 2 Ultra Road Tire

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2009

These tires are great. I got a set for my new neuvation wheels and have loved everything about them. First of all the grey/silver looks fantastic. Not boring like black, but not super edgy like solid red or blue. So far they have worked out really well. They corner very well on dry roads and even on rainy rides they have held up better than any previous tire I have owned. Overall a great tire for anyone, but especially a good training/racing tire. I don't have the budget to buy separate sets for training and racing so these do a terriffic job overlapping!

Great Base layer

Craft COOL Mesh Shirt - Sleeveless - Men's

Craft COOL Mesh Shirt - Sleeveless - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2009

I love this base layer. I wear it under my jersey no matter the weather. It tucks in to bib shorts well and gives your upper body plenty of protection from rough material on the bibs. Also, since not all jerseys are pro level, mositure wicking, and supremely comfortable, the base layer provides an ultra thin barrier that keeps the jersey from sticking to you. Unlike some base layers the neck line is high enough to protect from tags, but low enough that you are wearing a turtle neck.

Giro Havik Compact Sunglasses

Giro Havik Compact Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 5 July 27, 2009

These glasses are the best. The rubber grippers on the end of the ear pieces help them stay on my head, while the nose piece is comfy and grips well. While a little pricey for just one lens that is not light sensitive they have worked in every situation. I get great ventilation while riding up big hill, which means no messy fog. They are light and durable. Plus they just look killer, which as every avid cyclist knows is by far the msot important thing when you cross the finish line.

Castelli Core Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

This under jersey will not keep you warm in the winter. But what I have found is a great under jersey that will is the Descent thermal undershirt. I can't find it here (bought it from backcountry.com they may still have it), but it is killer for the cold rides

Solid Helmet

Giro Atmos Cycling Helmet

Giro Atmos Cycling Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 June 4, 2009

I really like this helmet! One of my biggest problems helmets in the past was not being able to see the road ahead while I was in the drops on a hill. There is none of that with the Atmos. It is very comfortable and lightweight. I bought mine in the late fall and almost wished it had fewer vents. Now that the cold is gone the 20 something vents really help to keep me cool.
Overall: Great helmet. If you have the cash, buy it!

Decent

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 June 4, 2009

This is a pretty nice under-jersey. I really like wearing it in the winter as my first base layer.
Here is the good: It wicks away moisture well. It doesn't feel like you are wearing an entire different shirt. It is light weight and comfortable. It does help prevent a rough jersey from scratching your skin. Also if you wear bib shorts like I do, it will give your shoulders a nice barrier.
Now the bad: It is a bit boxy and short in its cut. I am 6'2" and 160 lbs (a string bean essentially) and a medium is just barely long enough to tuck into my bib shorts, but a large was way too lose on me. My only other complaint is that the shoulder straps are not wide enough. My bib straps barely fit on the fabric of the undershirt.
Overall: decent shirt for the money. I own three, two in white one in black. Until I find something better, I will continue to use it.

Not great

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor Mesh Base Layer - Sleeveless - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 2, 2009

By no means is this my favorite base layer. I suppose for its description it does the job a a light weight shirt, but I do not enjoy wearing this under my jersey/bib straps. It tends to bunch and I don't think the wicking properties are much to write home about. Wrap up: Great if you want it as a shirt, a waste if you want it as a Base Layer

Great Warmers

Pearl Izumi ThermaFleece Arm Warmer

Pearl Izumi ThermaFleece Arm Warmer

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

These are my favorite arm warmers. They are really soft on the inside, no itchy stitching here! They have kept me pretty comfortable in some brutally cold weather. They look killer, and they fold up nicely into my back pockets when I get hot. Sizing is tough, I found that if you get your shirt size they generally fit, but that may be different for different builds. I highly recommend these!

Killer Jersey

Castelli Continuo Half Zip Cycling Jersey - Men's

Castelli Continuo Half Zip Cycling Jersey - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

I love this jersey. It is plenty warm without feeling like you are wearing a thick jacket. The inside is soft and prevents that itchy feeling when you start to heat up. My favorite part is the zipper on the back. It is large enough for my bulky phone so I never have to worry about dropping it on the ride.

Total Steal!

Castelli Unico Glove

Castelli Unico Glove

Rating for this product: 4 January 2, 2009

These gloves are great. Just recently tried them out during a December warm spell and I loved them. They are not as warm as a heavy wind proof glove, but in 45 degree sunny weather they do the job perfectly. As the day heated up I stashed them in my back pocket and forgot they were there. Unlike some cheap big box store knit glove, these have little rubber grippers on the inside to help keep your hands in place.

Great boot!

The North Face Hayden Chukka Shoe - Men's

The North Face Hayden Chukka Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 2, 2009

These boots are fantastic. They look really cool and feel pretty comfortable. I bought them as winter boots and after getting them I don't think they will cut it. They really are not insulated in any way, and although they may be water resistant they are not water proof. They have held up really well and after a few months of heavy wear show almost no sign of it. If you want a rugged fashionable boot these are great, just not the most functional footwear

If I were you I would get them. I didn't even notice them when I stashed them in my pocket. I had them on while it was early morning cool and then took them off and didn't think about them again. As a heads up they come as a free gift with some of the castelli jerseys

Giordana Silverline Cycling Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

Had these shorts for a few weeks now, and I really like them. The material on the bottom stays put on your legs and the padding is very comfortable. You may still have to stand up to keep the blood going but overall solid shorts. The sliverline is also very attractive. These are my favorite pair of shorts

Awesome shorts

Castelli Wicked Bibshort - Men's

Castelli Wicked Bibshort - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 26, 2008

These were my first pair of bib shorts and now I will never go back. Sizing was a piece of cake I am 6'2" and 160 lbs, ordered a medium and they fit perfectly. The chamois is comfy and the shorts feel good. I have ridden in them about 15 times now and had no problems. The only issue I have is the shoulder straps are a little uncomfortable, mostly because I'm tall, but they are just not as smooth as could be. This generally isnt a problem because I wear a mesh base layer. Recap: Get these shorts and you will never want anything less

Not bad...not great

Innovations Proflate 16 Inflator

Innovations Proflate 16 Inflator

Rating for this product: 3 September 26, 2008

It will fill your tube... maybe. I had a flat slipped in the cartridge and went to town. It got to the point where the pressure in the tube (most likely around 70?) was keeping the air out, and the pressure in the canister wasn't great enough to continue inflating. If it were me I would save the money and get a simpler, threaded system. Recap: Good if you dont mind riding home on a low tire

Terrific shoe

The North Face Padda Amphibious Shoe - Men's

The North Face Padda Amphibious Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 7, 2008

I love this shoe, it is perfect for the water, whether I'm sailing, hiking, crossing a stream, or just lounging. They are very comfortable and are pretty rugged. The water drains out quickly and the shoe gives great traction. Also the laces over a velcro strap or basic water sock are a welcome feature. When I want to lounge around the camp fire or the backyard I like my shoes lose and comfortable, but when pulling the kayak or sailboat on to a trailer I am glad I can tie my shoes tight and not worry about slipping out of them. The best part is these shoes look great!
