Five Ten Galileo Climbing Shoe

October 18, 2009

I have a pair of evolv defy shoes that I really like except for one thing. The smell. I live in a really small apartment and don't have anywhere to keep them outside so I end up keeping then in zip lock bags. I was wondering if these had the same smell problem. Thanks

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Boxer Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 2, 2009

These would be the only type of underwear I would ware if they weren't so expensive, still they are worth buying a few pairs for hiking/backpacking. They resist odors super well and wick sweet very will. I sized down for these, normally a size medium (32 waist) so i went with a small.

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Woman Jacket - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Monkey Woman Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 3 March 2, 2009

I bought this jacket for my girl friend and she loved it at first because it was so soft, but then after a few months of regular ware, the soft fuzz stated to mat together and become less soft, but still wearable. Still a good jacket, but know that the super soft feeling of the fleece doesn't last long.

GETS CAUGHT IN HAIR!!

Petzl Zipka Plus Headlamp

Petzl Zipka Plus Headlamp

Rating for this product: 2 March 2, 2009

I was going to buy one o these for my girlfriend until she tried one on and it got caught in her hair. It wasn't just tangled, a large amount of her hair actually went into where the string gets wound into and wouldn't come out. Had to rip out a small chunk of hair to get the headlamp off. Unless your bald, go with the Tikka plus instead.

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 2 February 18, 2009

I had this watch for about 2 months and loved it. I was surprised how accurate the altimeter was and I loved the big numbers making it easy to read at a glance. After casual use one of the buttons stopped working, making all other functions besides time useless. I returned it and got a new one, but then about 3 or 4 months later I had the same problem. Again I returned it and got a new one. Then it happened again, so I got another one. Finally the 3rd watch I got seems to be holding up, I've had it for almost a year and a half. One thing I do notice is that this watch goes though batteries extremely quickly compared to other watches I've had, every 4 or 5 months. I love this watch when it works, but it has failed me so many times that I cannot recommend it.

Light but condensation

The North Face Vario 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

The North Face Vario 23 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 February 17, 2009

Great tent, its extremely light and packs down really small because of the compression sack that it come in. Fairly roomy when set up, not too big not too small, definitely big enough for two people. The only problems I've had with it are condensation issues and waterproofing issues. Used it but heavy rain storms and the inside walls of the tent were very wet, so much so that it was dripping onto my face while I was trying to sleep. I couldn't tell if the moisture was coming from condensation or from the rain. Even with out the rain there have been issues with condensation. I have the version with only 1 door, the new one with 2 doors might be better. The vestibules are big enough to hold at least 2 60 L packs and boots. Overall I love the tent, but might chose another if i am expecting heavy rain.

Great Boots

The North Face Plasma GTX XCR Boa II Hiking Shoe - Men's

The North Face Plasma GTX XCR Boa II Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 17, 2009

These are my favorite shoes I have every owned. I have 2 pairs because I out grew the first pair. They are super versatile and comfortable. They are cool enough to wear on the hottest summer days, yet I have worn them snowshoeing with a pair of warm socks underneath. The GTX waterproofing works great and doesn't inhibit the breathability noticeably. I personally hate shoe laces so the Boa system was a great alternative. I had my first pair for almost 2 years and wore them almost everyday and the Boa system never failed. I also like them because they are a lot lighter then traditional hiking or backpacking boots but they are just as sturdy. Overall I love these boot and suggest them to above thinking about buying them.

Osprey Packs Stratos 24 Backpack - 1300-1700cu in

February 15, 2009

Om,In my opinion, this pack may be too bulky for school hallways and around campus travel. But you can always cinch down the excess space, and it may come in handy on "Heavy" homework days. Both packs would be useful for school during the week, then dumping gear into it for the weekend, so really its a toss up between the two. As for choosing the proper size, you need to measure your torso. At the top is the "view sizing chart" link. Click on that and follow the directions. Also, if you are planning on carrying a laptop to college, this is NOT the backpack for you. I ride a bike to school and found this backpack so comfortable while riding that I use it for school. Books and laptops fit oddly because of the aircore but also give you a good amount of cushioning between your back and your hard books. It doesn't fit a huge amount of school supplies because they fit in so oddly, but if you have a long commute it could work for a school bag, but if you have other options, I would go with those.
