Although the straps are very strong and secure if you want to ensure no tugging of the seams then try this. Wrap the rope around the whole bag and through the loops. This way the rope is holding the entire bag and not just the loops, but the loop keeps the rope from rolling off the bag. I have lots of these bags straps to my motorcycles this way and they hold fine at 80mph and I don't have to worry about the bags slipping.

Thanks Brandon, I figured they would be a bit short. I cannot seem to find any decently lightweight or at least small packing genuine stakes to use out there. I'm coming in on two wheels instead of an RV so carrying 2ft long pieces of rebar is out of the question. The closest thing I have found are NRS blue screws, they come in 12 and 22". Anyone own both this and the PCS? If so is the stove itself physically shorter from top to bottom is you put them on a desk? I ask because with the PCS system once you put the canister and stove inside (not threaded to the canister and with the stabilizer legs inside the stove and the pot support upside down over the canister) you're only left with about 1\4" of space (which is taken up by the igniter). I can't see how all that will fit in here since it's over half an inch shorter, unless of course the stove itself is shorter.

Kelty Fleece Sleeping Bag Liner

Kelty Fleece Sleeping Bag Liner

Rating for this product: 5 March 9, 2011

Zooming in I took a shot that it would mate to my summer slumberjack diablo sleeping bag and it does. It uses a #8 zipper which is pretty standard. I ride a motorcycle cross country and encounter many temperature changes so I wanted to have a light summer bag to carry and use this as a liner to increase it's temp rating which is does nicely. So nicely in fact that my 40 degree extra wide summer bag has been toasty down to 18 degrees. Although it was helped with wool socks, long johns and a technical top similar to under armour (Sub Zero).

This is NOT a thin "liner" like some others. Which you can see by the stuff size and weight. It is very thick and plush which is exactly what I was looking for. It is also a tad wider than most at 34". But it is stretchy.

It's useful as a ~50 or so degree liner as long as you're out of the wind. This fleece is not windblocker fleece.

Snow Peak GigaPower 2 Way Torch

Snow Peak GigaPower 2 Way Torch

Rating for this product: 5 November 9, 2009

I'm pretty sure this is one of the only iso\butane or lindel valve compatible blow torches out there. And if you also happen to use iso\butane stoves or lanterns this would make a great addition to your expedition kit if you're on a motorbike or 4x4.

BC put a little gag as to not use it for any DIY welding projects, however the torch gets plenty hot enough to break down any type of automotive glue or hardener (loctite, certain JB weld products, e.t.c.)

Out of sheer boredom I seared a steak for about a minute on each side holding this about 8-12" away from said steak. They were small fillet mignons (about 5" around and 1" thick). They came out a little past medium well but they were great.

After that, more horseplay ensued and someone had a metal cookie sheet and was going to use his stove\oven contraption to try and make pilsbury chocolate chip cookies.I took said cookie tray, placed a dozen cookies on, and balanced the tray on two stoves, I then proceeded to blowtorch the bottom of the cookie tray (it was metal, not aluminum though). After about 7 or so minutes we had soft and chewy chocolate chip cookies. yum!

Exped SynMat Sleeping Pad

Exped SynMat Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 May 14, 2009

This is the best pad I own and I have a few. I didn't like the external pump of my downmat and switched to the synmat. You lose a tiny bit of R value but unless you're on top of everest you won't miss those extra 2 R value points. NOTE: the new downmats are available with an integrated pump, this is because I bought 2 synmat 9DLX pads and exped likes to tease me.

What you lose in insulation compared to the downmat you gain in an integrated pump, which works great (those who hate it aren't doing it right) and you also save roughly $60 in price.

I've used this pad in some VERY cold temps with just a light summer weight sleeping bag and remained comfy all night long.

Not many pads allow you to drop it in the snow and take a nap in just a long sleeved shirt.

Oh, this will keep you VERY warm, it's like adding 20 degrees to your sleeping bag, keep this in mind when packing for a trip, you can use a lighter weight sleeping bag when combined with this pad.

This is the lightest and smallest packed fully insulated 3 or 3.5" sleeping pad out there.

Oh and the 26" model fits perfectly into a Big Agnes park series sleeping bag.

Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow

Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow

Rating for this product: 5 May 13, 2009

For ages when camping with my gf I would use her as a pillow. She was warm and soft. She was never comfortable though, maybe I have a big head.

So I buy this awesome pillow (in large, for my big head) and its oh so comfy. I also bought a warm sleeping pad.

Now I no longer force her into a snuggle in order to keep from freezing, I am quite content on the other side of the tent snuggled into my own little ball.

However, I can hear her gazing at me with evil eyes with crossed arms contemplating various methods of exterminating me throughout the night. So even though this pillow is super comfy I now can't get a wink of sleep for fear of being slaughtered dare I catch some shuteye. It's a real mess.

The North Face Allegheny Bx Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Rectangular Synthetic

The North Face Allegheny Bx Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Rectangular Synthetic

Rating for this product: 5 May 13, 2009

I loved the muted dark green of the bag and my primary concern at the time was packed size. This packs down to a nice 7x12 (a lot less with a proper compression sack).

One thing I didn't check was the girth, since it was ME who failed to check I can't fault the bag with a lower rating like the other guy did.

I slept like a baby who was nicely tucked in and was nice and warm down to roughly 35-45 degrees wearing just a t-shirt and flannel pajamas while backyard camping at various friends homes during a long motorcycle road trip.

I ended up giving the sleeping bag away and bought one that was a full 36" wide because I like to move around while I sleep.

If you're a thin guy this bag would make a great summer time bag for you. I don't care for the bright colors of the 2009 model personally.

Mountain Hardwear Flip 25/40 Sleeping Bag: 25-40 Degree

Mountain Hardwear Flip 25/40 Sleeping Bag: 25-40 Degree

Rating for this product: 5 May 13, 2009

There aren't too many multi temp bags out there, I only know of 3, which is sad because it really is an excellent concept, especially for those traveling through different climates.

I've used this through many a summer night, one awesome thing about the bag is that the non full length zipper side has roughly 24" worth of zipper so you can open it up and flip the top of the bag off yourself when it's warm. It also allows a shorter person to use the bag and make sure their feet are in the footbox during the winter.

It does pack a little big and thick but I'm not carrying this on my back.

The semi rectangular shape and design gives you just enough snugness for the cold while still offering the wiggleroom of a rectangular bag.

I've also used this bag in some serious winter conditions (read the answer to another customers question below) and was I not only comfy but I was HOT and had to open up the zippers on both side and push most of the bag off my chest.

If they only made another dual temp bag in either down or a lighter synthetic insulation, perhaps in say 0\25 degrees.....

MontBell U.L. Super Stretch Hugger #2 Sleeping Bag: 25 Degree Down

May 13, 2009

If you're dead set on this bag then you can do a few things. Cinch the lower baffle closed. If that does not help another trick is to fill a nalgene bottle with boiling water and toss it in the foot area, your feet will be nice and warm all night. You can also toss a couple of toe or hand warmers down there.

Also, to keep you feet warm wear a hat and to keep your head warm wear merino wool socks.

If you can look at other sleeping bags perhaps a child size bag will work for you? I have a few female friends roughly your size and shorter and I got them children sized (but name brand) sleeping bags. OR I let them use my Mountain Hardwear flip which has about 24" of zipper on the non full length zipper side, thus effectively making the bag shorter. Not many sleeping bags have this feature, so you might also want to look into ones that do.

I first bought one of these in order to use it as a bed table with the possibility of sometimes bringing it to campouts. It works great as a bed tray and is the perfect height to accompany a pair of Kermit chairs around the campfire or under the vestibule.
