Icebreaker Beast 150 Brief - Men's

For starters I got a couple of t-shirts from Icebreaker and they were great for odor control. Then went ahead and got these. The large size fits me just fine (32" waist).

Great bag for warm weather

Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

Marmot Atom Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

Love it. Very light, packs very small and a great bag for my Utah spring-summer-fall trips. Used it for about a year now. Seriously, very happy with it.

Great canyon pack, why discontinued?!

Metolius Express Haul Pack - 2380cu in

Metolius Express Haul Pack - 2380cu in

Rating for this product: 5 August 20, 2012

I use this as a primary canyoneering pack. Too bad the new years model is different (all kinds of useless buckles, loops, etc. Heavier too!). Make a few holes in the bottom for drainage and this is the best pack for wet canyons. It works fine in dry canyons as well. Nothing survives a narrow sandstone slot, but this pack resisted it pretty well. In fact, I had no serious holes in after a year of use. The first thing to go where the straps and buckles. This is the second one I got.

Used one of Icebreaker's 150 tees on a sea kayaking trip. It was hot, in salt water all the time and it performed great: pretty much to smell after 3 days. The synthetic and cotton items became stinky right away. Looks nice as well.

Black Diamond Wiz Headlamp

Black Diamond Wiz Headlamp

Rating for this product: 3 August 20, 2012

It's a headlamp. It seems to work. It's small and reasonably priced. It's very similar to my old one from BD, except it's got 2 LEDs not 3.

However, BD has added A PHILIPS SCREW to the battery compartment. There's a small screwdriver in the package. Really? Am I supposed to carry a special screwdriver at all times on trips so I can swap out batteries in a headlamp? Seems like an afterthought to fix a design screw up.

Sea To Summit Lightweight Dry Sack

Sea To Summit Lightweight Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 5 August 20, 2012

These are a good balance between weight and durability. There are lighter dry bags but not strong enough. I use them for canyoneering (inside a pack) and sea kayaking. Also on backpacks where I need to swim with the pack. Two of these (35L each) is sufficient to fit all gear on a backpack. Too bad these seem to be discontinued.

I got tired of a stinky polyesther base layers and tried merino wool ones from Icebreker. Worked well on an alpine climb. No issues with shrinking after the first wash. Also, I did some comparison and liked Icebreaker best. Thumbs up!

Love this tent

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

MSR Hubba Hubba Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 June 18, 2011

I have an older model, had it for 3-4 years. Love this tent. Used it on Mt.Rainier, in Wyoming's Wind River range, on the Pacific shore, in Utah desert. Car camping, backpacking, mountaineering. Very spacious, had a big guy for a tent mate once, no problem. Never leaks. Wind resistance is good, but add two extra guy lines. The tent is light -- 2kg old model with no stakes (I use rocks). Research it there's nothing lighter among the double wall tents. Super easy setup, can stress this enough, super easy. Very good pole configuration, symmetrical and no awkward or useless parts. Vertical walls create a lot of head room, no issues like touching walls with your face. Very good quality, no leaks or tears after 3 years of use. The fabric is not super thin, does not feel fragile. The floor fabric is strong enough to use without a footprint in reasonable conditions (sand, grass, flat sandstone).
