Stoic WPF Compression Sack

May 15, 2012

We used this as our food hanging bag for 5 days in the Uintas. Worked like a champ and much lighter than most other waterproof bags.

ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

ExOfficio Air Strip Lite Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 15, 2012

I picked up the Ex Officio Air Strip Lite Shirt for a canoe trip and it worked perfectly for keeping the sun and wind off all week. It breathes well, handles all sun, and has a number of features that seem small but add to the shirts functionality. I especially like the double collar for protecting your neck. The shirt is REALLY cut generously. This is great in the morning when you want to throw a base layer on under it and does help with keeping you cool, but if you are in between sizes, I'd say go smaller.

Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat

Outdoor Research Helios Sun Hat

Rating for this product: 5 May 15, 2012

I absolutely love the OR Helios Hat. It fits perfectly, sheds water well enough to use in the rain, and keeps me from having to lather my dome in sunscreen. I was right in between sizes and decided to go a size up. So glad I did. There is a drawstring closure which allows you to fit the hat perfectly and between this and the chinstrap, this thing will stay on in any kind of weather.

Perfect Pack size

Rating for this product: 4 May 15, 2012

The Eagle Nest Outfitters ProFly is the perfect size for throwing in your pack "just in case". After riding out a nasty storm last year in the Uintas, I knew I wanted something that I could put up quickly, was light enough to vanish when not in use, and built to handle anything that came my way. The ProFly has accomplished all of these and more.

Oakley Store Polo Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Oakley Store Polo Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 25, 2012

The Oakley Store Shirt is a great option for someone looking for a shirt to wear on the golf course or just around town. The little details like the chest pocket, snaps, and cuff accents dresses it up enough for most office days and the roomy fit lets me wear it on the course and at least look like I know what I'm doing. The cotton/poly blend maintains it shape and look after multiple washings. Overall a great shirt for the price.

My new favorite piece

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 22, 2011

The Patagonia Nano Puff Pullover is my new favorite piece of gear period. It is warm enough for chilly mornings at elevation, yet doesn't roast your organs in the evening by the fire. The shortened zipper on the pullover means it layers nicely under other zippered pieces, yet is long enough to act as a vent if things heat up. Less zipper also means less weight and bulk for throwing in your pack. I am fairly sure that when packed into its own pocket, this thing is smaller than my cell phone and weighs considerably less. It runs true to size and the sleeves are not built for a gorilla; which those of us with normal to short arms appreciate. I had debated on a light insulated piece for quite a while, but glad I waited for this one. It is everything I was hoping to get.

Rocky Mountain Slayer SXC 70 Bike

June 9, 2010

I'm 5'5" 140# and ride the 15" frame size just perfectly. My inseam is closer to 28", so you should have plenty of clearance on this, yet not feel like the bike is too small.

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL3 Ultra Light Tent: 3-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 March 23, 2009

I'm not sure that there is a better option out there for a lightweight 3 person backpacking tent than the Big Agnes Copper Spur. The Copper Spur handled myself, my 6'5" friend and all our gear for a week with room to pare. It sets up easily, feels very roomy, and the space to weight ratio is amazing. When you can carry a 3 person tent for the weight of the 2 person, why wouldn't you? Grab a Copper Spur and enjoy the space.

Ride Contraband Snowboard Binding

Ride Contraband Snowboard Binding

Rating for this product: 5 March 20, 2009

While the Ride Contrabands take a little more work to set up compared to most other bindings, they are definitely worth the effort. The Contrabands hold more solidly than anything else out there, have amazing response, and I'm not sure that any single human can hurt these. Drop the cash on the Ride Contrabands, watch the video on how to fit them, and shred anything that gets in your way.

Big Trouble in Little China

Dynastar Big Trouble Limited Alpine Ski

Dynastar Big Trouble Limited Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2009

The Dynastar Big Troubles definitely handle any trouble that comes their way. From charging groomers to floating in the powder, these made short work of anything I could put them through. They do feel a bit heavier than some skis of similar size, but their stability and the ability to power through anything definitely make up for it. If you are looking for an oversize ski for the deep days out west, the Big Troubles would definitely fit the bill.

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 8, 2008

I picked these up and have really been happy with the performance. They fit well (especially in the short lengths for those of us who are vertically challenged), they do a great job in wet weather, and they vent nicely with or without the leg vents opened. For the money, this is a tough pant to beat

The North Face Dilithium Ski Glove - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 July 8, 2008

I picked these up for my wife who always has cold hands and have been really impressed with them. No longer does she have a problem with chilly fingers, nor does she worry about them getting damp. The Hyvent/Gore combination does a great job keeping the moisture out and the Heatseeker insulation is super efficient without too much bulk. Overall, a great option.

Rating for this product: 5 July 8, 2008

This hat is REALLY warm! The blend of a fleece liner and the wool exterior makes it nice on the ears, yet still gives you all the benefits of a wool shell. Overall, a great choice for keeping your noggin' toasty on those cold January mornings.

The North Face Apex Elixir Jacket - Men's

The North Face Apex Elixir Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 8, 2008

I bought this as a lightweight option to take the edge off those brisk mornings and have really been impressed. It does a great job with light moisture and snow, but if it is actually storming, a heavier option is probably a better choice, as this will soak through if it is subjected to much heavy moisture. For what it is designed to do though, it performs perfectly.

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2008

Buying ski pants has always posed a problem for me as most brands tend to run long in the inseam length. These on the other hand have worked out perfectly in the fact that they are avail. in a short version. I have used these pants in varying conditions from sunny and powdery to wet and heavy and they have yet to disappoint. If you are looking for a great pant at a reasonable price, I would definitely recommend these.

Outdoor Research Super Couloir Glove

Outdoor Research Super Couloir Glove

Rating for this product: 5 March 25, 2008

This is by far the most expensive glove I have ever purchased but in my opinion worth every penny. I have worn the liners separately for most of the ski season and they are perfect unless the snow is REALLY wet. The shells fit well and NOTHING comes through them. I am not sure that I will ever need to use both the liners and the shells together as the warmth individually is enough for everything but the coldest temps. If you need a glove for those frostbite inducing days, these would definitely do the trick.

These fit well. They don't bunch up in your boots and give you enough padding and warmth in the places that you need them too. Overall, a great sock for heading up to the slopes in. I just wish my everyday socks were this comfortable.

Mountain Khakis Teton Twill Pants - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 4, 2008

This is my first pair of Mountain Khaki pants and I can honestly say that they might be the most comfortable pants I have ever owned. They do run a touch small, so I would recommend that you size up one size from what you normally would wear, but other than that they are are flawless. They definately won't be my last pair of these.
