Favorite shoe in years

KEEN NoPo Lace Shoe - Men's

KEEN NoPo Lace Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 20, 2012

As the title says, this is by far the best shoe I have worn in years, if not ever.

The same goes for every pair of KEENs I have ever tried/owned, really great shoes.

I usually wear a wide-ish size 12, and this shoe was true to size, and fits great.

As other reviewers have said, the comfort out of the box is amazing, there was no detectable break-in period.

I chose the black model, and was worried the brown stripe along the base would look unpleasant, but it's more subtle in real life, especially with a little dust from the trail ;)

Highly recommended!

Great after break-in

Patagonia Footwear Drifter A/C GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's

Patagonia Footwear Drifter A/C GTX Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 20, 2012

This shoe offers great support, and is solidly built. However I did experience a bit of rubbing on one toe, which went away after a few days of being worn.

I thought these shoes would last me a long time, but I ripped the sole quite badly on a small diameter tree stump after 2 months of use...
Well it turns out they did last me a while! I continued to use the same damaged pair for most of the summer while working a busy tree service job... the overall durability of the shoe as a whole really surprised me.

I returned the broken pair to Backcountry, but they were still going strong, even after months of use while missing half a sole!

Super durable puffy!

Outdoor Research Havoc Insulated Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Havoc Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 20, 2012

Quality jacket, exterior material is very durable and water repelling.

Most durable puffy I have ever laid hands on, by far.

I would like to see two large mesh pockets on the inside of the jacket/beneath the hand pockets, to keep gloves/skins/etc warm.

A good helmet goggle

Oakley Crowbar Goggle

Oakley Crowbar Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2011

I found this goggle to be best suited for use with a helmet, and at the ski resort.

I originally used the A-Frame goggle, and when it came time to upgrade, I tried both the Crowbar, and then the Elevate goggle from Oakley, but I found both to be too small for my somewhat wider face. They also did not vent as well as my A-Frames when touring/hiking.

I ended up returning these (Thank you Backcountry!) and buying a replacement pair of A-Frames. This is still a great goggle, just not ideal for my face size, or intended use (plenty of backcountry skiing).

Great goggle for the ski resort!

Oakley Elevate Goggle

Oakley Elevate Goggle

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2011

These are great goggles, with a quality lens (I used the polarized Fire lens, specifically).

4 stars for fit and overall function.

I ended up returning these goggles, and going back to the Oakley A-Frame (also with a polarized lens).

Here's why:
The Elevate goggles have a smaller field of view, and did not fit my slightly wider face very well. The Elevate also had poorer venting, and fogged up while touring/skinning.

If you have a smaller face, and primarily use this goggle at ski resorts, I'm sure you will be VERY pleased, Oakley makes a quality goggle. It fits very nicely with a helmet.

What kind of fit do these have? Are they generally smaller, or larger for their rated size?

I am quite tall with long arms, but quite skinny, and I cannot decide whether the medium or large is the better size to go with.... any tips, advice? thanks a lot :)
