awesome pad, warm, comfy, lite, packs small..

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2012

i pick this up after my Big agnes insulated air core sprung a leak. i was not happy about the cost but after using it i was not as angry. the pad is a solid performer. quickly inflates fits me well (6'2" 280 lbs) was nice and thick never touched the ground. the triangle heat deal works really well i stayed extremely warm. for sure if you want a pad that packs light and small this is the one. i did not have any problems with the noise once fully inflated. one thing that i did not expect but totally love about this pad is the fabric. my old pad i would slide all over the place on the pad cause of the fabric of my bag and the pad there was no traction to keep you on the pad. this pad you stay put while sleeping. i am a side/stomach sleeper and i was very comfy. my old pad was a rectangle cut and i thought i would miss the extra space going with a mummy cut but i had no problem and had plenty of space. all positive things to say other than be prepared to drop 170 bucks.

The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pant - Men's

The North Face Paramount Peak Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 6, 2011

these are a very light wt. pant that dry very fast when wet and hold up through the brush while exploring. i would buy these pants if you are looking for breathable camping pants that are great for hiking, fishing or just cruising around town. i have several pairs in a variety of colors. great for treks where it may be getting a little to warm and instead of packing shorts to change into just zip the legs off and you have a awesome pair of camping shorts. there is a ton of stow and go in these pants with the large deep pockets. i have problems carrying my fly fishing box in most pants but these pockets are great for bulky items. i don't even have a fishing pack anymore just stuff my pockets and i am ready to fish. these are solid quality pants A+++

Contour ContourHD 1080p Wearable Camcorder

Contour ContourHD 1080p Wearable Camcorder

Rating for this product: 2 October 4, 2011

You get what you paid for. This camera is cheap at 137 and this camera is cheap in quality. the camera does not work well at night. the image was very fisheyed and tunneled. the resolution was not very good for "HD" the mounting system is a joke with no support to hold the camera from shaking, making your shots useless. it is light wt. and compact but thats the only thing going for it.
with two modes of shooting hi and low i didn't see a large difference, not enough to write home about.

My camera was returned because it was not recording after only two days of use. i used it to test it out around the house and the second time i did a helmet run and when i got home all my shots were not saved on my card. nothing would show up when just the day before my videos were on the 2Gb Card that it comes with.

i would not buy this camera again.
i say spend the money if you're going for action shot camera and get a go pro camera better mounting system, better resolution, and play back feature on camera.

3 season hard hat

Bern Brentwood Zip Mold Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 September 5, 2011

this is the first helmet that was comfortable to me. the chin strap is adjustable in various ways. you can adjust it to fit chin or double chin.
this is a 3 season helmet.
great for cold weather
its a bit hot for the summer
the vent system falls a bit short.
the hard hat covers like a hair cut. it is a very solid hard hat. not the lightest but not heavy enough to really notice.
there are pre made holes to mount an action cam to the top.
Hi Lite- zip mold custom fit. this design on the zip mold model is great simple and delivers a snug comfy custom fit you just don't get with other HHs.
Hi Lite- there is a flex visor not to long but does the job.
Hi Lite- this hard hat could double for many sports due to the shape. it is an universal HH. it would be great for kayak, skate (roller or board) snowboard, ski, horse back riding it only falls short compared to a football HH. don't waste cash on 5 different HH just buy one pick your BERN out and be safe.

narrow foot.

Merrell Chameleon3 Ventilator Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 5, 2011

merrell makes quality shoes. my chameleon 3 v's were great the style was pleasing and the shoe was heavy duty but light weight. great shoe but the heel was narrow and the sole was stiff. ( i like a strong sole and structure as long as it fits.) there was no give to the narrow heel and did not break in as i wore them. i ended up returning them but i would recommend them just make sure they are comfy when u first try them on cause they won't break in like other shoes. they hold their structure. if they fit nice the first time they will fit nice the last time you wear them. i would also recommend the intercept by merrell they are build with quality like the cham 3 but are made for a wider foot. the pic is of the intercepts.

Nathan X-treme Hydration Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 5, 2011

i forgot the best part this is not a camel back hydration bladder with the horrible circle large mouth crap lid that is hard to hold while filling, close when full, and the lid always flips around in the way. this pack has a zip lock bag approach. super easy to fill and hold while filling.

This pack is incredible!

Nathan X-treme Hydration Pack

Rating for this product: 5 September 5, 2011

i love this pack. the mesh straps are light, strong, and well vented. i sweat a ton and these straps allow air to stroll through reducing sweat strap lines. the hi lite of this pack is the chest cross strap unlike a normal bag the straps fall off or the pack can be thrown around as the weight of the bag swings back and forth during movement. the x single chest strap allows for your load to be harnessed to your body with a comfy fit and reduce bag shift. the single strap is very comfy i worried when i first bought it but now i recommend it. the next great thing is that the hydration bladder is huge 3 litter. i love the over sized bladder. you may not need all 3 litters but its better to have the option to fill it completely full or half way. you can never have to much water. the valve has on on off twist to lock the bladder while running around. the pack has two storage compartments
the larger one would fit a loaf and 1/2 of bread not smushed.Perfect for a rain jacket or hoodie and lunch or a bike tool kit or extra components. for general questoins you can fit a pair of shoes in the larger storage area size 12 and under. the smaller one is about 1/2 loaf bread size perfect for electronics keys phone and wallet. it has a key clip and a divider pocket.

the third pocket is the small one in front with the bladder tube clip. i use it to hold my ipod nano and shuffle and run the cord out the corner. it all just works . highly recommend this pack to every one quality product build to last.

(bread loaf standard unit of measurement for fly fishing trout bums)

Electric Tech XL Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 April 26, 2011

these electric tech xl sunglasses are awesome. they are for a person with a big dome and like large glasses. they are great for eye protection they have a nice polarized lens with a blue hue to them. these are great for fly-fishing. these lenses cut through the water and being large cover my whole field of vision. i don't know about paying full price they are a bit pricey. but if you can snag them on SAC like i did for 55 bucks do it. for that price buy a couple for gifts down the road cause you can't go wrong with these.

Big Agnes Copper Spur Ultralight Series Tent Footprint DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 February 7, 2011

this foot print does what you want it to do matching colors for the corner clips make it easy to see which end goes where. the best part is the footprint clips to the rain fly making a perfect fit. it sucks you have to shell out for the footprint (not included in the price of the tent) but well worth the cost to help protect the longevity of your tent.

Nice and small

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Ultralight Tent: 1-Person 3-Season

Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 Ultralight Tent: 1-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 January 25, 2011

I got this tent and the copper spur 2man I kept the single man. It is the best single man I found in the market for the price. I love that it is a free standing tent un like most single man tents they require stakes to balance the frame. There is a great amount of head room and the frame spreads the tent nice and tight. The single man is super light and packs really small. The layout tapers down like a mummy bag larger at the top and slims down near your feet. The rain fly clips directly to the foot print with color coordinated clips which is nice and keeps the rain fly on during heavy winds. There is not enough space to keep your pack in the tent with you but you can keep it out of the rain under the 10 feet of vestibule space. There is one door and the other side has a small half circle foot long door which i love you cand easily reach out through the doggie door and grab gear under the vestibule. Now for some gripes I have. There is no gear loft. They sell one separate which I bought 20$ and it does not fit any which way you try and apply it do not buy the gear loft! The other thing is the door opens in a half circle and the door is left ( while open ) directly on the ground where when getting in and out you step on it. If you bundle it up and faten it up the way it was designed to the door is still getting trampled on which damages the door I have small holes in it from snagging it getting in and out. I wish the made the door in a curtain fashion like most tents. When you close the door it pulls that door side wall up and you loose some floor space . The floor is not flush and square it curves up which Is a bit of a pain. The other thing is the footprint is sold separate I think at the price the tent is they could of at least thrown in the foot print and gear loft. Total with the loft and foot print ran at 420$ plus tax. It's a bit spendy for a single man.I would like to finish on a high note for the tent I love the way the frame separates the the rain fly and the tent walls so that when it rains they are not touching which cuts down on water condensation. When you touch the walls while sleeping your gear doesn't get wet. Also helping is the fact that the walls are made of mesh. In the summer it breathes very well it doesn't get stuffy in the morning when your trying to sleep in. Overall I recommend this tent for the hard core back packer and the regular camper that can afford it.

Skullcandy Titan Ear Buds - 2011

Rating for this product: 2 February 16, 2010

does anyone else get static shocks to the ears when you wear these buds cause i do. it happens the most with the plastic bud covers so i use the foam ones. i like that they block out the outside noise but the shocking is something that should just not happen while wearing any buds. as far as comfort they do the job 3/5 and the sound quality 4/5 for the price. get them on whiskey and the price is right for sure

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 16, 2010

as far as a simply rain jacket that is super lite the precip is a great jacket. the thing i would add to it is that there needs to be a mesh liner. if you are in the rain all day or night the liner would help with the condensation that builds in the jacket. layer with this jacket if its cold cause it has no warmth value, it is strictly a shell. i do like that two minutes by the fire and this jacket is dry as a bone. overall its a great just in case it rains jacket.

Osprey Packs Argon 70 Backpack - 4300-4700cu in

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2010

this pack has been great i had originally purchased the atmos 65 but as a larger guy the atmos did not fit nearly as well as the argon 70. this pack holds more gear than i have ever needed. this pack easily will carry what you need for a 4-5 day camp trip when packed properly. i like that the lid converts to a hip pack. the hip belt can me custom heat molded which make this pack even better. the one thing i with is that it came in the apple green color that the atmos comes in. the argon has a similar vent system as the atmos. if osprey could combine the atmos vent system with the argon this pack would be untouchable. i really like that it is narrower across the back giving great arm mobility. the frame fits great with the curve of the back and puts the wt. of the pack comfortably on the lumbar pad. i recommend this pack for all larger guys out there looking for a pack as i have found this pack to fit nicely being a big guy myself (6'3 torso 24" and a hip of 40")

Osprey Packs Atmos 65 Backpack - 3800-4200cu in

Rating for this product: 4 February 16, 2010

the vent system in this pack is like none other out there in the market. the pack sits well off the back about an inch giving it breathing area between the back and the pack. the foam straps are very comfortable and cut in a diagonal pattern decreasing surface contact reducing heat. the pack boasts several stash pockets and a nice elastic pouch on the back panel. the hip belt has two pockets for easy access with trekking. i loved the color apple green and i really like the hydration capabilities. the only thing that makes this pack less than perfect is if you are a larger person. my torso measures 24inches and the pack is for a 20-22 and the hip belt at a 33 it runs small and does not sit properly on the hips if you don't fit the specs.
