Functionally great, but...

Arc'teryx Beta SL Jacket - Men's DO NOT USE

For someone looking for a true hard-shell it would be perfect, I'm sure. It's impervious to wind and extremely lightweight. I didn't get a chance to test the water-resistance of it.

However, as great as it was functionally, I couldn't deal with the stiff collar and "plasticky" feel and rustling noise of the Gore-tex Pac-lite material so I returned it and ordered a "Venta" soft-shell. The Venta doesn't have a hood but that's OK because it'll layer better underneath my motorcycle touring jacket. The lack of an inner pocket was also a minor annoyance.

I'm 5'9" and the size "L" fit was perfect for me but more slender types of the same height may find it too bulky. YMMV.

Anyway, it's a fine product, just not what I was looking for.

Maui Jim Ho'okipa Sunglasses - Polarized

Rating for this product: 5 March 20, 2008

These are my second pair (I broke the first pair through my own clumsiness).

Anyway, I really like 'em because:

- excellent optics (no distortion, polarized so they cut glare, great colour transmission)
- they're very light
- the rubberized tips keep them in place, even while running in hot weather
- they're very comfortable
- decent sun protection from all angles
- cool-looking but not too "high fashion"

Bear in mind that "scratch resistant" coating doesn't mean "scratch proof", but with normal care they should last a long time. Just don't repeatedly drop them on rocks or in gravel like I did with my old pair.
