I was a bit hesitant about using a trunk rack. I had a roof rack with fork mounted trays for several years, but someone stole it! I bought this one since I had two friends coming into town for a gran fondo ride, and I needed to carry 3 bikes. The Super Joe 3 was secure and stable, and it was about 1/4 of the cost of buying a roof rack and three mounts. I had no worries about the rubber coated mounts scratching our bike frames either. And, no issues of the rack or the bikes scratching the car. The main down side is that you can't lock it to your car (I had core locks on my roof rack which didn't seem to stop anyone anyways), and you can't really lock your bikes to the rack. It also restricts rear visibility, and you can't get in the trunk with bikes loaded. However, given all that, I think it was an inexpensive and secure solution.
