No-Brainer

Mountain Hardwear Dome Perignon Beanie

Mountain Hardwear Dome Perignon Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 January 11, 2007

The ear flaps are such a no brainer, I don't know why companies don't think to incorporate this into every cold-weather beanie they make. This sucker is WARM and DRY, ears stay warm, no wind blowing through, stops wind but still breathable, with a nice snug fit. Keeping your head warm makes it a lot easier to warm the rest of the body. Another great call by Mountain Hardwear.

Salomon Fast Tank - Men's

Salomon Fast Tank - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 10, 2006

These shirts have a great fit and GREAT for packing but getting your head in and out of this shirt is a job in itself. Buy at least one size oversize, I started with mediums but couldn’t get my head in! Ended up in a X-LG just so I could get it over my head. Not sure what the Salomon folks were thinking... maybe they should TRY THEM ON THEMSELVES. There’s nothing 'fast' about this tank, its a pain in the keester, I dread trying to take this thing off. On the upside, this site’s returns / exchanges are fast easy and seamless, best in the business.

Altimeter Margin of Error

Suunto Altimax Sport Altimeter Watch

Suunto Altimax Sport Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 3 September 12, 2003

The altimeter function is somewhat slow to update, and I have also found that it can be off significantly. The manual provides a section regarding margin of error based on air temperature, however I find the altimeter to be off more than what I would consider acceptable. In some cases, at 5000 feet, it will be off as much as 600 feet (more than 10%). There are instructions for resetting sea level, and this may help, but I haven't had the time to get into it.
