KEEN Bryce Mid WP Hiking Boot - Men's

KEEN Bryce Mid WP Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 29, 2012

(3.5 stars) I feel these would be a great pair of on-trail hiking boots. The keen adzorb sole is nice and cushy, there is a good toe-spring (good if you like it, bad if you do not), and the lacing keeps your foot snug and in place. The leather, along with front and back rubber toe caps make it a little burly and certainly durable.
Where I ran in to problems was using the boot off trail and on steep slopes. The traction just would not "grip-up". The tread pattern of the bryce is different from other keen boots. It has these "direction arrow lugs" that although is a good try for something different, just does not apply well off trail. I slipped a lot more than i expected to.
The keen.dry membrane worked well on the few stream crossings that I had encountered.

SmartWool NTS Microweight Boxer - Men's

SmartWool NTS Microweight Boxer - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 17, 2012

These are awesome as a base for anything outdoors. I prefer these to the boxer brief b/c they allow a little more air to circulate on those hot summer days. I have some other brands (ibex, icebreaker) and I only wear these now.
If you have a previous version the 2012 is slightly lighter in fabric and a little less constricting. Over-all the fit and feel is great.
I had to switch from Patagonia's Capilene boxers b/c of backpacking stank and the lack of breathability during the hot summer months.
Most definitely worth picking up on sale if you are on the fence about buying a pair or not. Merino is great and these are a prime example of why.

Stoic Luft Synthetic Insulated Sweater - Men's

January 26, 2012

Thanks Dave.
Is your info based on personal experience?
I have a 60g primaloft pullover that leaves me feeling cold if I am not moving. I thought this would still be low profile enough to fit under my softshell and also warmer.
cheers.

How warm is the 100g cirrus compared to 60g of primaloft?
Is this jacket warmer than the Patagonia Nano puff?
Thanks.

The North Face Windwall 1 Fleece Jacket - Women's

October 8, 2010

Hi Geri,

Since your daughter already has a warm layer in the Denali jacket, I would recommend the venture or a like outer shell jacket to block the wind/rain and seal in the warmth that the Denali provides.

What is the foot volume of these shoes. How about chaco shoes (not sandals) in general?

Montane Puma 2.0 Softshell Jacket - Men's

January 29, 2010

How does the hardface technology fare compared to Polartec Powershield? I assume Powershield does better at blocking elements.
I don't own any "hardface" fleece because it seems (from a distance) that it is just a fleece with a slight hard exterior, so not being much different in how it performs than "regular" fleece.
