nice and long, and flattering fit

Arc'teryx Phase AR Zip Neck Top - Women's

Arc'teryx Phase AR Zip Neck Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 July 10, 2012

The colors are bright (I have the blue and red), the fit is comfortably long to cover your waist band (I do a lot of squatting and bending for work), and the fit is super flattering for curvy people. The fabric is not super soft or plush, but not itchy or uncomfortable either. Love this for summer work in Alaska (temps 40 to 75F).

Sizing

Outdoor Research Mithril Softshell Jacket - Women's

Outdoor Research Mithril Softshell Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 June 4, 2012

The jacket seems very durable and a perfect fall weight, but the medium was too small and the large, much too large. Wish there was a medium-large size! Both were returned.

Smaller than it looks

Osprey Packs Meridian 28 Wheeled Convertible Backpack - 4577cu in

Rating for this product: 4 May 4, 2012

I agree with the other reviewer on all this bag's positive traits- we bought ours used and have taken it on two international trips so far. This is a well made bag. My only gripe is that because of all the bells and whistles in terms of carrying (wheels/handle plus fancy backpack straps), the room inside is smaller than it looks due to the collapsed handles taking up space. (See attached photo). It's tough to pack it to the airline limit of 50 pounds, as it's not really a full size checked bag.

Darn good

KEEN Alaska Boot - Women's

KEEN Alaska Boot - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 May 19, 2011

I echo all the other reviewer's positive comments. My only complaints, having ordered these boots online, is that yes, they run small even compared to another pair of Keen boots I had, the thick faux-fur cuffs prohibit day-to-day pants from falling to the ankle (although in snow I usually tuck pants inside the boot anyway), and the lacing system makes it touch to tighten the boot just around the ankle for longer hikes/walks. (I just end up strangling my calves). This problem also results in a little bit of the saggy/baggy ankle look.

My previous pair of shorter keen boots were a bit easier in terms of slipping them on under pants, but these boots are nice and durable and decently warm for short stints outside. (not standing around though, at least below freezing).

Pretty Classy Sweater

Isis Slipstream Down Jacket - Women's

Isis Slipstream Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 13, 2011

I have had this jacket for about a month, and it's super classy for wearing to work. The silver color has a bit of purple in it and it looks pretty galactic with the sheen of the fabric. It sometimes pooches out in front but that might be because my cross-country butt keeps it from falling to its full length. Meaning, this is a fitted jacket (I have size 8 and usually a small or medium on top, size 8 pants). It's fairly thin but still warm enough for house-to-car-to-work in Anchorage, hence 'sweater' in my title. It shedded down for the first two weeks but I think it's over that now. A contender in the 'cute embroidered down jacket' race for sure.

Outdoor Research Reva Full-Zip Sweater - Women's

April 21, 2010

It is about the same thickness as a patagonia midweight polypro top. The zipper gives it versatility, but it's not a top layer except maybe in warm weather in the evenings. I like to wear it around the house for a light extra layer.

Great bag

Eagle Creek Swerve 32 Rolling Gear Bag

Eagle Creek Swerve 32 Rolling Gear Bag

Rating for this product: 5 January 7, 2010

This bag is awesome. First rolling duffel I've had, but man, they're great. Brought it to Peru, and packed full it was just under the weight limit (good thing it's lighter than some of its competitors). Backpacked it up and over some sketchy pedestrian overpasses in Lima at night, and it was manageable.

Compression straps don't do much but I like the extra security in case something happens to the zipper or fabric. Zipper is bomb proof and thick. Handle is convenient and smooth-acting. Even brought some 11x14 frames back in it -- this thing fits a lot. Probably fabric will blow out first, it's probably the weakest link, but if you avoid packing it with sharp corners it shouldn't be a problem.

Not What I Thought it Was

Backcountry.com Siphon Wool Hooded Jacket - Women's

Backcountry.com Siphon Wool Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 January 21, 2009

This is not the $140 on sale for $80 wool jacket I wanted. And I sooo wanted one! This is more like a sweater weight coat- maybe even a light sweater. This is not like the thick ibex jackets that you can actually wear on a chilly shoulder season day. I would buy this jacket for a sale price of 40 bucks, but it's not worth the 80 I found it for on SAC, and definitely not the 140 BC.com is trying to sell it for.

It has a raw seam on the hood which I didn't realize, which is cute but dresses it down. The fit is cool, and I like the length in back, but the zipper bulges out if I don't sit up straight.

If you're willing to shell out the change for an off-brand but stylish quasi-wool jacket (it's woven wool threads glued to a thin poly interior that's not even fluffy; I wanted thick boiled wool), be my guest.

This jacket was not what I thought I was paying for.
